Will this adapter work with AppleTV to convert audio from digital (hdmi) to analog (rca)?
    Kerry B on Dec 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, this is not a HDMI adapter. It is for Xbox console only.
I need this to connect my TV HDMI ARC port to optical of my 5.1 home theater.. Will it work?

Hi, I have the original white Xbox 360 that I connect to my PC monitor via HDMI, which means I have no sound (just bought it 2nd hand). Will this adapter give me the option for L\R out? Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: I purchased for our XBOX 360 S (black) for just this reason (PC monitor without sound). The original XBOX has the same port (AV Cable socket) on the rear.
Can I use this for my older Bose surround system with my new TV that doesn't have rca output jacks?

    Good for the price
    Cheaper then First Party.

Optical out for use with HDMI on older Xbox 360 models, works great for that! Gives proper room for hdmi cable.

Optical connection is very loose with my Monster Cable optical. Have to be careful it does not get pulled out.

    PROS: Cheaper then First Party.

Perfect for its intended purpose. I was making use of the HDMI output but still wanted RCA sound for my existing setup, and this cable lets you do that. It also has optical sound in case I upgrade in the future.

I use this to connect my xbox to a small desktop stereo to then connect my headphones for late night "don't disturb the roommates" playing. Great price, great compatibility. I purchased a second one when I accidentally crushed the first one while moving, but by the time it arrived I had already snapped the crushed one back together and it worked fine.

    PROS: Compatible with XBox 360.

Careful study of customer reviews and other technical material for several aftermarket adapters revealed that many if not most have issues with the xBox resetting under some conditions. It seems this is due to improper wiring in other adapters. The Monoprice adapter has no such issues and has performed flawlessly with our xBox 360 slim and Turtle Beach headphones. Thank you, Monoprice, for another technically superior product at a tremendous price!

This unit works great. I haven't had any plug issues like others have reported here. Plugged in and worked right away. Can't beat it for the price either!

The optical connection seems to be a little loose no matter what cable I try to put in there. Not a real issue as long as you do not bump it.

PROS: Cheap, easy to set up

CONS: Bought three total for when my son has LAN parties with his friends. 1 didn't work when the arrived but honestly for the cost it did not make any sense to worry about it.

    Exactly what I needed
This cable shape allows it to be plugged in to the Xbox 360 Slim along side a HDMI cable. This let me keep the HDMI connection with a television for high def video and ok audio, and use this audio adapter for a connection to a stereo receiver. In other reviews for similar cables I have seen issues where the Xbox resets if the television input is changed or the television is turned off (due to faulty wiring in the cable). This cable does NOT have this issue, it works perfectly.

PROS: Works along-side HDMI cable for better audio without sacrificing video quality.

    Works like a charm
This cord works perfectly for the Xbox. I needed the connection due to my Turtle Beach headphones and i had purchased other adapters from other sites which all failed on me within a very short time. This adapter has worked amazingly for the past three months and recommend it to anyone in need of using HDMI on the Xbox along with AV headphones.

    PROS: Works great.

    CONS: None

    Monoprice comes through again!
"Stole" this item for less than $3, compared to over $15 in local stores. No-frills plastic bag packaging and no instructions, though if you can't figure out how to use it, well . . . My new TV did not have an analog audio out jack, so my son could not use his xbox headphones AND play in HD. This adapter allowed an HDMI cable to be connected between the xbox and the TV and for him to use headphones. The product notes suggest using a low-profile / thin HDMI cable, which I purchased, but a reasonably sized HDMI cable will work just fine.

I've not tested the digital audio output so cannot comment on it's performance.

    PROS: Works as advertised

    VERY inexpensive

CONS: None that I can see.

    Works as advertised
If you have an older generation xbox (not slim) and want to use hdmi WITH optical AT THE SAME TIME (like if you need to use a headset), then you need this adapter. The stock xbox one is made too fat and it blocks the hdmi port. Obviously, if you have a slim style xbox 360, you do not need this since the slims come with the optical and hdmi ports built in.

PROS: inexpensive, no issue with switching inputs and xbox resetting

CONS: When the xbox starts up, the audio on my receiver is not displaying dolby digital. I have to go into audio settings on xbox and enable "stereo audio", and then go back in and switch to "dolby Digital". then I get dolby digital audio on my receiver. The same thing happened when I used the same adapter they sell at most retail stores. (best buy). I am using the old xbox elite. hdmi to receiver AND optical to my ear force Tango headset.
