Does the keyboard "character" itself glow?...or just the space around the key glow? In other words, would I be able to identify the character in a dark room?
    A shopper on Jan 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The space below the characters is lit and the keys are translucent so the letters are lit but it is not lit all the time. The light shuts off after a few minutes(I've never timed it) and that is my biggest complaint about the keyboard. All you have to do is touch the space bar and the keyboard becomes visible.
How do you set the lighting mode at startup? When I start the computer it goes into one of its flashy flow lighting modes, and I just want all of the keys to be lit, which requires doing the FN-Home key combo right now. Every time I start the computer it goes back to the light show mode.

BEST ANSWER: I wish I knew myself - the manual was inadequate and I found no solution looking for it myself on the internet. It would be great if Monoprice could get the manufacturer to see this post and communicate a solution back to us. - Tom in Dallas

BEST ANSWER: There are two boards--one with RGB colours (more on that later) and one with only white. The 'RGB' board has static colours, for example the "A" key is red and will always be red and the white board will only display white.
What is the difference between a red switch keyboard and a blue switch keyboard.? I am looking for a keyboard that I can see the letters in a dark room and one that feels like typewrightes use to. Thank you.
    Edward G on Jul 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: A red switch or blue switch has nothing to do with the color of the back light. It deals with the mechanical feel of the keys themselves. Red switch keys are usually used more by gamer's because they are very fast response when depressed and not much tactile feedback, where blue have a better tactile, click, and feel usually better for just typing. If the keyboard is the same as mine it is back lite with white LED's.
Does the keyboard come with the key removal tool?
    A shopper on May 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yeah, there's a key puller floating around loose inside the packaging
is this mechanical keyboard KVM switch compatible?
    Danny J on Dec 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is just USB and requires zero drivers so I don't see why it wouldn't work with a USB KVM, but if you are using an old PS/2 it might not, it definitely does not have an adapter for it.
How do I remove the hand rest from the Keyboard?
    Joaquin A on Jun 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The hand rest is attached to the keyboard with three clips. Simply pull the hand rest away from the bottom of the keyboard with a little effort and it will come right off. My tip is to pull from one end instead of from the center.
Does the keyboards backlight have the ability to be turned off?
    A shopper on Apr 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it has various modes you can use as well.
Is there anyway to program the keys to perform functions like "sleep" or "volume up/down"?
    Greg H on Aug 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, I don't believe there is. It's a very nice basic mechanical keyboard with no programmability.
You literally have to hold down the control key, wait half a sec, then press c or v. If you don't hit them at exactly the same time, frequently they won't catch.. Is there a way to make it less stringent?
    A shopper on Aug 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Not that I know of.
I hit my keyboard and it changed my pattern to when it starts and goes side by side and wondering how i change that?
    A shopper on Jun 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can hold the FN key and hit one of the keys in the Home key group to pick a backlight function.
Has anyone installed o-ring dampers on the keys? Do the generic Cherry MX dampers fit these keys correctly?
    Kevin M on May 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Can't help on this one.
    Does the keyboard have feet?
    A shopper on Apr 25, 2017

Good quality keyboard, some info incorrect
Note, this review is the same as for the 13790 as I purchased both keyboards and found the same issues with both.

Good keyboard for the price, mechanical keyboards normally seem to go for more. I would definitely recommend this for entry into the mechanicals. The 7 rating is more for the amount of inaccuracies in the listing.

PROS: Great keyboard with a nice weight to it. Seems to be of a good quality.

CONS: The information on the Monoprice site is inaccurate. Specifically, the description shows "Premium cable breakout: Fully braided cable" which is incorrect, it is not braided. Also, the 5th picture of the keyboard shows various LED colors which is not the case, there is just the one white color. The instructions for the keyboard were completely wrong, luckily a quite chat with support got me an email with the correct directions.

Nice feel, despite not being cherry switches
Despite not having fully adjusted to the keyboard, this keyboard feels great. There's nice wide standoffs on the back of the keyboard that feel secure enough to withstand the weight of the keyboard. The space bar feels a lot more stiff than the rest of the keys, but that's to be expected with the springs that they use to help stabilize the key (which I'm sure you can swap out if you so desire, just mind the stabilization bar as well). Despite the enter key being taller than your typical ANSI keyboard, I haven't had too many problems hitting the key, and with the backslash key being near there, typos won't be too harsh if you need to get used to striking that key. It sounds rather loud, but that's the nature of the switch type, and it's something that doesn't bother me. While the manual that comes with the keyboard seems to be incorrect, monoprice does have the manual on the store page that seems to be a lot more accurate. My only minor gripe is that the keyboard is not multicolored LED, as a keyboard with "multicolor and multipattern lighting options" might imply. Furthermore the pictures of the product are a little out of date, which is a shame, because the product I have looks a little nicer with the status LEDs than what they have to show. Plus, the last picture they show of the keyboard also implies that the keyboard has the ability to have different colors. I don't think it matters too much, but it's worth noting either way. This nice, solid, and slightly heavy keyboard feels like it's going to last. Just keep in mind that the LED color is only white (since I haven't figured out how to change it), and the LED effects that you can use are listed in the manual on the page, and are activated by pressing the FN key, plus any of the keys placed near the home key.

PROS: Keyswitches feel nice, Keyboard feels solid, led effects are neat, sounds great, nice solid rubber cable, you can disable the windows key (FN+Left windows key) and more, feels easy to get used to

CONS: The pictures monoprice lists are a little outdated, no multicolor led, a little loud, enter key is a bit different

Great Quality Keyboard For a Great Price!
This keyboard is exactly what I was looking for! Same quality in the switches as you would pay for a Corsair equivalent. The LED lighting looks great and love all the option for backlighting modes. Great price as you would pay upwards of $100 USD for a Corsair or other branded equivalent. Love it and considering buying another for my other systems.

    PROS: Great quality switches
    Great LED backlighting
    Great price!

    CONS: None!

Best keyboard for the money you can get right now, probably.
This is a great typing keyboard. It has the Blue keys, which still have a mild click (even though they supposedly are quiet), but the low actuation force and the smooth action make for effortless, fast typing. My hands are nowhere near as sore on a day of writing code on keyboards like this.

And even though it is still somewhat clicky, none of my co-workers have complained about the sound. The backlit keys are nice when the lights are turned off in the offcie.

PROS: The reduced keyforce and smooth action of the keys is not a problem for fast touch typing at all.

Greatly reduce tightness in my hands from the RSI.

The keyboard looks better in person than it does in the photo here.

CONS: Slightly clicky. In some offices you may need to add the o-rings to quiet it down. Cable is not braided as specified or replaceable, but it seems durable enough anyway.

In a home office you may not like the way the backlighting lights up the room, but you can just save about $10 and get the othewise identical non-backlit version.

    Highly recommended.
Happy with my purchase. I've had it for 2 weeks, so cannot speak about reliability yet.

PROS: + Switches have great tactile action. Better than Logitech G710 in my opinion.
    + Sturdy.
    + Cheap.
+ The useless Palm rest is detachable.

CONS: - LED PWM is low frequency and thus the light strobes are visible.
    - Included manual is for a different model. Download the one from the product page.

    Almost Perfect (Updated Review)
The large keys (shift, enter, backspace etc) squeak due to the poor quality support under them. Other wise the keyboard would have been perfect. The enter key was annoying but only for the first week of owning the keyboard. I recommend getting a wrist rest and o-rings. Overall I recommend this keyboard. Its excellent for the value. You can't find another FULL sized mechanical keyboard with backlights at this price point. Just be sure you will be able to live with its short list of issues.

    PROS: Overall Construction
    Back-light
    Clicks

    CONS: Large keys squeak
    enter key being iso
Hard to remove useless plastic that's at the wrist area (at least its removable)

    Good Keyboard - poor instructions
Exactly as I expected and it works well.
It is IMPORTANT to note that the instruction sheet which comes with the keyboard is WRONG. You will drive yourself crazy trying to get it to work right. Download the correct instruction manual from the same Monoprice product page that you ordered from.

    PROS: Good mechanical keyboard.
    Works well.
    Reasonably priced.

CONS: Wrong instructions included. (See review)

    What a bargain
I ordered this keyboard as a blind, leap of faith item. It was shipped and delivered on time and in good condition. It performs perfectly with high quality key switches. I had a Northgate keyboard with Alps switches about twenty years ago. It was my favorite all time keyboard. I like this one just as much, and it cost about 40% of what the Northgate did. It also has perfect backlighting for use in the dark.

PROS: Works perfectly. Everything I hoped for.

    CONS: None

    Winning
Finally bought this to replace my busted Rosewill Red. Loving it so far. Overall, very glad I went for it.

    PROS: Solid keyboard
    Cheap, without feeling cheap.

CONS: The instructions that come in the box are wrong, so make sure to download the manual from this site. Inconvenient, but not really an issue.
