Dummy Wireless Brick Camera (Motorized) with switchable On/Off LED

Dummy Security Cameras can be used to augment your existing security system by creating the impression that you have more camera coverage than is actually installed. They can also be used to temporarily replace faulty cameras in case spares are not available while repairs are being performed.

This dummy camera is designed to look like a wireless outdoor brick camera. The camera has a motor, which slowly swings it back and forth. This combines with the blinking red LED to indicate camera activity and further emulate a real security camera. The base is intended to be mounted on a vertical surface and allows for the correct camera orientation.

Requires the use of three AA batteries (not included) for motor and LED activity.

BEST ANSWER: It looks realistic, but when it's located near eye height, the plastics are evident. Best to keep it above the door

Works Well But Not Cost Effective In The Long Run.
I put this up and then found out it would not work with rechargeable batteries. Toss that money out but I might use the batteries for something else anyways. It then took me another week to find the time to get regular batteries. In the mean time we had another theft making it more aggravating.

So I finally got some energizer batteries in it and they only lasted about a week. So consider the price of batteries before you go on about how cheap and cost effective this unit really is. It would be nice to turn off the motion to save battery. Its a decent feature but does not just swing to the motion detected. Instead it detects motion and swings back and forth till it does not detect motion. The motor is also not very quiet and annoyed me more than I thought it would.

The battery issue is a big deal to me. I dont want to end up paying that much for a full time solution. Might end up spending less in the long run to just get the real thing. Think that over per your application.

    PROS: Cheap

    Works

    Shipped fast

    CONS: Battery life

    Can not use rechargeable batteries

    Dummy camera delucks.
read some negative reviews here, don know why a bought 2 and they work fine, and come on people if your expecting a long range motion sensor from a $8 camera, your expectations are unrealistic.

    PROS: motion sensor, flashing LED.

    CONS: None so far.

    Good price
For the price, one can't complain, as it is realistic enough. However, the red LED light only comes on when motion detector is activated, which itself only works when a person is at very close proximity to camera. I fixed this by deactivating motion detector motor, and running one of the wires from LED light directly to the middle one of the three battery connections. Now red LED light stays on continuously, which is what I really wanted in the first place.

    PROS: Looks realistic.

CONS: Red LED light only works when motion detector is activated, which only works when person is within close range.

Very Bad Experience with Monoprice product
Apparently Monoprice doesn't have a quality control point for their customers. When I received my MPT-1400A dummy camera, it looked like it had been returned by another customer. The plastic antenna was broken, the motorized mechanism didn't work at all, the red LCD with movement sensor only worked at about 6 inches from the camera and didn't work in the dark at all. To sat the least, I was extremely disappointed with this experience. I was going to return the camera but my wife threw the packing and box away before I had the chance to test everything.

PROS: It looks like a real outdoor video camera.

    CONS: The MPT-1400A didn't work out-of-the box

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello Ron,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the condition that PID 8427 arrived in. Just to verify, was the packaging damaged at all when the item was first received? Also, can you send me pictures of the broken antenna? Even though the packing has been thrown out, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement as we cover this unit with a one year warranty. Obtaining the replacement would be of no additional cost to you. Please let me know if you would like to proceed and thank you in advance!

    Nice Product
These cameras look real and are easy to mount.

    PROS: Easy to mount.

    worked well for me
I didn't use this as it was intended. I removed it from the plastic arm it comes attached to and placed it in a real outside camera case and used a steel arm to mount it to a pole. It looks VERY AUTHENTIC this way. It did require some minor engineering to mount the camera to the plastic mounting inside the outside camera case, but with a larger screw and a washer, it worked perfectly. This also allows me the option at a later date to place a real brick camera inside.

I never tried the tracking option or put batteries in it, so I am unable to comment on those features.

    PROS: cheap and looks good

    CONS: none

    looks real
I have two which are over a year old and still working fine. As long as you change batteries every once in a while they work consistently. Batteries last 3 months or more for the ones at my front door which is a main everyday entrance. Everyone thinks they are real due to the swiveling and flashing light

PROS: look real, good battery life

Price is right for it's potential deterrence effect.

    PROS: Truly realistic features.

CONS: No separate on/off for motor and blinking light.

So far so good, time will tell on how long it works. Price is right for it's potential deterrence effect.

PROS: Looks real, moves when sensing motion 15 ft away, has On/Off switch
