What input pins does this have? Can it be connected to the standard RCA surround sound ports on my computer?
    A shopper on Apr 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The speakers uses the standard speaker wire configuration and as far as i can tell does not accept jacks. I am not sure you could drive the speakers with your computer as there are 5 speakers plus the sub in the set.
Are these speakers compatible with the Monoprice PID# 3022 speaKer stands? Are they the same speakers as PID# 10565?

If the '2016 version' of the speakers are shipping with 1/4" 28 thread hole, what would be the recommended Monoprice mounts?
    New User U on May 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They are not 1/4"-28, they are M6-1.0 x 25mm is what fit into the speakers perfectly.
In order to get it into the speaker mounts sold by Monoprice, I purchased the Socket Cap version. The Pan Heads do not fit into the center of the mounting caps.
Do I need a receiver with this? Or can I connect it directly to my TV?
    New User U on Nov 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You do need a receiver.
What is the thread size of the mount? What is the monoprice PID for compatible mounts?
    Matthew G on Sep 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Metric size M6. Works with the top hole of the Monoprice brand speaker stands.
I see the satellite speakers have a 1/4" threaded hole for mounting. How many threads per inch? I've seen 1/4-20 and 1/4-28 both mentioned in the reviews and would like to know which, if either, is correct.
    Kevin M on Mar 5, 2017
WHAT are THE BEst pin connector to use on these terminals? I bought the monoprice connectors and they do not fit well without bending the pin.
    Kurt F on Nov 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Why are you even using pin connectors on everything but the subwoofer? I am using 16 AWG speaker wire end twisted and inserted into the clip connector. It works just fine.. Obviously the subwoofer takes RCA jacks.
    Subwoofer Connection Question

I bought this system and was shocked to see there are right and left RCA inputs for the subwoofer. The manual says:
"Subwoofer outputs are monophonic, so if you have two subwoofer outputs then they are intended to drive two separate subwoofers. To make this connection you will need a cable with a single RCA on one end, which splits into two RCA plugs on the other end."

Really??? I have never seen a subwoofer with a right and left input, and it is just a single woofer in the enclosure. So this really has me confused, and I feel like I am missing something. It did not come with this unusual splitter but did come with a pair of RCA connectors which I cannot figure out when, if ever, those would be used on it. So it all has me quite confused, and I feel like I am missing something or the instructions have a serious omission.

Do I really have buy a splitter? What if I just input on the left or right ... would it still give me full power or would I have only half powered subwoofer?
    Alan G on Jan 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The left and right are parallel inputs that couple together in the circuit. This sub is compatible with most AVRs that only have 1 Subwoofer LFE out. You will not lose or gain any volume by using one or both of the Left/Right inputs.
Can the rear surround speakers be mounted on the wall, even though they have a rear firing port? If so, how? How much "breathing room" do you recommend for the surround speakers if not mounted on the wall?
    A shopper on Nov 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: To mount the speakers on a wall you will need sometype of mounting system that takes advantage of the 1/4 " mounting hole on the back. The mounting system that you use will hold the speaker off the wall. I just looked in my manual for these speakers and I didn't see anything about for a distance from wall. My mounts hold them off about 3".
Can these speakers be wall mounted without additional parts?
    A shopper on Nov 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, they are designed to be used with the 1/4" threaded hole.
does it come all inclusive as in, plug into a wall outlet and then plug a headphone jack into my computer, or do I need other things?
    New User U on Apr 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is a legitimate speaker system...not a "Home Theater in a Box". No, you can't just plug your computer into it. You will need a receiver to power the speakers, speaker wire/cabling and connect all the speakers back to your receiver, That said, its a fantastic sounding system for the size and tremendous value. I bought this for my "game room" for the kids to play their consoles and watch occasional football and soccer in a 16ft X 24ft room. It fills the room with surround sound and decent bass without a problem. Its all hooked up to an 85w Pioneer Elite receiver. It is an awesome speaker for average sized rooms or a beadroom
Does this system come with speaker wire? If so, what lengths are they?
    A shopper on Jul 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These speakers DO NOT come with speaker wire. However, Monoprice sells speaker wire at very reasonable prices. I found it worth while to upgrade to the 12AWG, especially for longer lengths (over 20'). I started with 16AWG and upgraded; the difference was obvious. I went with the Classic oxygen-free, pure copper wire but I don't claim to have the expertise to know how much difference that makes. I just figured better wire, better sound.
This is labeled "home theater system" but I see nothing more than speakers. Where is the 5.1 channel amplifier? What are its specs? Thanks!
    Michael D on Jun 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is not an amplifier. This is the speaker(s) (only) setup for your already existing 5.1 channel electronic components. With that said, I've been using them for a year+ and I'm pretty happy with the sound. I use these in my bedroom, so they haven't been limit tested. The sub sounding as good or better than my Klipsch in the living room. Although, they do not have (what I call) standard mounting. With a quick search I did not find the correct mounting hardware for these on monoprice. They require a shaft like piece that fits through the bottom of the speaker.
Can I pair this with Sony STRDN1070?
    New User U on Jan 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have my home theater system paired with a mid-level Denon so I can't answer with 100% certainty but, from my research on receivers, I would have to think the Sony is quite similar so you should get excellent results. (Be sure to use quality speaker wire. I upgraded to Choice Series 12 AWG from Monoprice and the improvement was quite noticeable.)
How easy is it to disassemble the satellite speakers to paint white?
    A shopper on Dec 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't think it's that easy. The speaker box is made of one piece (glued parts and covered with a black layer of melamin or similar material, where you can't see the joints or "seams"). You can unscrew the speaker and tweeter components but that's about it. I don't think paint would stick to the plastic like surface/finish.

Can the satellites and sub be purchased separately to complete a 7.2 setup?
    New User U on Jan 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I'm not a super audio guy but I did pair this with my Klipsch and I truly love it. In fact I do like the sound better of the mono price speakers. I'm old and my ears are bad, plus a govt employee. So, old, deaf and knot sew smart.

What's the difference between this and the 33309 model?
    Monty B on Sep 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Bought this package because it was rated by can't as abetter system than the energy take classic which I do own and is spectacular. This is an amazing set for what you are paying. I don't have any personal experience with the 33309 model but I love the 5.1 premium model. Very clean highs and great lows. I love movies and music and this is a beautiful system.
The manual does not describe proper wall mount procedure for these speakers. It would help immensely if "How to Install using Recommended Wall Mount" is also added to existing manual. Can someone answer on the proper installation procedure using wall mounts?
    A shopper on Jan 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There's a threaded hole on the back of each speaker for use with mounts. Simply use a mount rated for the speaker weight and follow the mounts instructions on how to attach it to the speaker. I used these and they worked perfectly. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=11410

The Monoprice speaker mounts I got will cover the speaker ports, will this interfere with the sound quality?

Can you buy a second subwoofer to match?
    Dawn c on Nov 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, on the site they have this same sub for sale separately. Or you can buy the monoprice 250 watt 12 inch woofer for $100. I recommend if you’re going to be using two subwoofers at the sale time that you get identical subs so that you won’t have any sound difference between them :)

What speaker wire is best 4 this system?
    Tom H on Aug 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Any 14 GA or better (Small Gauge #) speaker wire will be fine...they are all good. Don't get fooled into "high-end" speaker wire. Go to the local Home hardware mega store and find it there or here on Monoprice. Just make sure its specifically for speakers (Oxygen-free wire). 16GA will work too but 14 is bigger and not that much more. You can find really good speaker wire here on Monoprice as well.
What should I set the crossover to for these speakers?

Attractive speaker with good sound. Uncommon Threads
Attractive speaker with good sound. The mounting holes are NOT 1/4-20 threads. They are 1/4-28. Keep that in mind when purchasing a mount. The thread size is not in the product description or the product literature. I found that frustrating.

    Small size big performance
Definitely a set for smaller rooms. Don't buy it for the price buy it because it fits in almost anywhere and still provides great sound. And then go ahead and buy it for the price anyway, because you'll be saving a ton of money. This is definitely not a set that's designed to excel in any particular area. They're designed to be great all-around speakers and remain very affordable.

The matched fronts and surrounds are smaller than expected, but with a satisfying heft to them that makes them feel quite sturdy. Center channel speaker is about average size compared to a discount store HTIB system, but you won't mistake it for a discount store speaker. Build quality on all speakers far exeeds their class. Even without the sub, this is a set that is far better than it has any right to be at this price point. The finish could best be described as unobjectionable these speakers won't draw oohs and aahs for how flashy they are, but they also won't draw comments about how cheap they look. In short, these are the kind of speakers that you simply won't notice, but you'll definitely hear the sound.

I discovered that one of my sound sources was simply horrible based on listening through these, and I had never noticed the low quality before. A quick test though high quality headphones proved it was the source and not the speakers. My previous HT speakers simply never revealed how bad that source was. This Monoprice set has crisp, clear highs and deeper, punchier lows than you would expect. The comparatively tiny size means you can place them practically anywhere because it's easy to find room for them.

The real gem of this set is the sub. It isn't the world's greatest, loudest, deepest sub, and it isn't trying to be. It is, though, well matched to its companion speakers, and seamlessly steps in to pick up the low tones where its mates fall short. Definitely more musical in caliber than something to shake the walls, but it still provides more punch than you'll be prepared for. If you want the very deepest lows and to feel a thud in your chest during explosions on screen, this is not the sub you're looking for. If you want something that can deftly switch from various styles of music over to a nice sounding explosion machine, this is your new friend.

Don't force this set to be something it's not, and it will reward you with great sound and few compromises. For something that will fill your spacious loft or your open floor plan great room with the kind of sound that will make your guests jump in surprise, move along to your next choice. If you're looking for a decent sounding set of speakers that will fit into a bedroom or small apartment and not punish you by sounding only slightly better than the speakers built into your TV, this set from Monoprice is a wonderful value and a no-brainer purchase.

PROS: * Small enough to fit almost anywhere

    * Sound like you paid far more

    * Appearance is understated but not cheap looking

    * Take off the fabric grilles and most will never guess they're Monoprice

    * Easy to drive, so your AVR won't strain a bit

CONS: * Small speakers cannot provide the expanse of sound provided by larger speakers

    * No five-way binding posts, slightly limiting your choices

    * Rear port is high enough that if stand mounting, the port may be covered by the bracket

    Defective after a year
Worked ok for about a little over a year. Then one of the satellite speakers started to make a terrible buzzing noise. I swapped the speaker to different channels with same result, so it was definitely a defect with the speaker. Only a one year warranty so Amazon/Monoprice refused to fix. Would NOT purchase this system again or recommend it to anyone.

    PROS: Great sound

CONS: defective speaker after a year

    10565 VS 8247
This review covers both the Monoprice 10565 (Premium Sound System) and the Monoprice 8247 sound system. This review assumes the 10565 is approximately double the price of the 8247 (as was so when purchased).

    Current Setup:

I recently purchased a new house and in doing so wanted to quickly setup a inexpensive home theater room. I was able to create a very nice setup using a Vizio 70" E701i-A3 as well as the Monoprice 10565. The picture is excellent and the sound is very, very good. I highly recommend this setup. My theater room is large with a 25' ceiling cathedral which does not appear to impact the 10565's ability to perform.

    Previous experience:

Of my previous theater systems the best I had was a Bose Acoustimass 10 Series III. It was a decent though pricey theater system which I had to sell while moving. I wanted something that sounded better than or at least equivalent to the experience. The 10565 fits the bill quite nicely, I'd say it is slightly better than the Bose system, which is great because it's 200/1000 = 1/5 of its cost. The Bose does have a better aesthetic appeal and excellent build quality, if I were to close my eyes and listen to both systems, I am confident I would choose the Monoprice premium speakers over the Bose. They have a much better range and can get very loud with little distortion.

    Monoprice 10565 VS 8247:

For this comparison I used the exact same setup (wire, placement, receiver, room). You can see it in the pictures below.

I loved the home theater experience of the 10565 so much and I wanted to try the same brand in another room. I frequently listen to music and play games in my office/loft area, so I decided a 5.1 system should work nicely there as well. I had considered buying another 10565 as they're not too expensive, however the speakers are quite large and I wasn't sure I wanted them on my desk. I also felt the system would never be fully utilized (volume) and would be a waste of potential. I decided to try out the 8247 in hopes that it was a smaller shaped system that was capable of producing quality though quieter sound.

This is somewhat the case. The system does produce similar sound, though not as good. The sounds from this system have a much boomier bass (less range) and the sidelights are slightly colder with a tin like sound. It isn't bad sound, but it isn't great like the 10565, which was to be expected given its price-point. The shape of the speakers was also somewhat disappointing, as they are nearly the same size. Though it is a matter of opinion, they look much less appealing to the eye. In short, the 8247 offers no advantage (to me) to the 10565 other than price.

    More on the 10565:

This is a great system, read all the other reviews about it. They are spot on. I paired mine with a Onkyo tx-nr525 and it sounds great. I also used VideoSecu 5 brackets from Amaz*n to mount. 16 Gauge wire.

    More on the 8247:

I purchased this system because I had read all the stellar reviews and was expecting more than what I received. I tried multiple placement configurations in my office with these speakers but could not find one I liked. No matter how hard I tried you could easily tell where the sound was coming from, it's very sharp and directional. When you tilt your head you almost become dizzy from the sound, it's very odd. The room is fairly large and square. I decided to try these speakers in the place of my home theater setup (same wire/placement/receiver) and they did sound much better than in my office. I believe these speakers need to be quite a distance from your head to blend together better. (In my office they were about 6-8' from my head. Another annoyance is the subwoofer in this system. The auto on function is poorly implemented (requires loud bass to turn on) and when it is on it constantly hums (I've tried multiple wires/speakers that do no impact other systems).

I really, really, like the 10565. I feel underwhelmed by the 8247. If you're looking to buy either set, I would definitely recommend going with the more expensive model. I feel the cost of the upgrade is minimal (after buying a receiver, speaker wire, etc) considering the performance increase. Perhaps if you only owned the 8247 you would never be the wiser.

    tldr: Buy the 10565.

Glad I listened to the reviews!
I am not an audiophile (yet). But I did want to improve my sound quality for my TV and movies consumption. Boy did these speakers deliver! I bought these about a month ago and the sound has gotten better and better with each day of breaking them in. Movies, TV, and music sound great.

I paired these speakers with the Yamaha RX-V379BL 5.1 receiver. They seem to be a great match. Yamaha seems to have plenty of juice to drive these speakers.

Speakers were very easy to wire and setup. I used either banana plugs or pins where applicable (personal preference).

I see a lot of negative comments talking about the lack of RCA wire for the subwoofer. I didn't deduct a point because they clearly list the bill of materials on the website and downloadable pdf manual. Note that rather than simply buy splitter adapter and introduce multiple connections I bought a mediabridge RCA Y-adapter (8 feet) from the other guys. This is working great for me.

For speaker stands I bought the Atlantic Satellite 77305018 from the other guys as well. These stands seem to work great. Go as high as 4 feet, and has excellent cable management built in. I am giving tid bits on other stuff i paired this with because that was the biggest challenge I faced while shopping.

    PROS: Easy install

    Clean look

Amazing sound! - rediscovering my favorite movies

CONS: Not the most attractive version of their logo. But I bought this for sound not looks so doesn't impact rating.
    November 3, 2015
Differences from the 2015 edition but so far so good.
This is actually my 3rd set of these speakers I have bought. One set for my wife's office, one set for a bonus room. Both of those were the v2015 sets. They then went out of stock for a LONG time and just recently came back this last month. I promptly ordered a set for my theater as I have been happy with the previous sets. More than happy really.

There are some differences however... The drivers are made of a different color material, or maybe an entirely different material. The black laminate was separating from some of the speakers right out of the box. The new logo is... not great at best and because of the changed driver colors, not as pleasing with the grills off.

The biggest change which kind of hosed me was the mounting screw on the 2015 version has always been a 1/4" course threaded screw. Before opening this box I went and bought the 6 I needed for use with my mounting brackets. Opening this box, they changed the screw to an M6. Sigh, another trip to the hardware store. Not really a big deal, but there are some popular mounts that have built in 1/4" threaded rods which will now no longer work with these speakers.

You can see most of the differences in the versions here:

I mean, I'll give them time to break in, which is super important with these speakers. So far so good, the sound is as expected, just the quality of manufacture has certainly suffered.

I dont' understand why Monoprice can't throw in a bag of the correct mounting screws, especially now that they are not the standard 1/4".

    SWEETNESS !!!!
When i connected these up with 14 gauge speaker wire (2791), and tipped the ends with [Banana plugs...receiver side i used (9437) satelite speaker side i used the (9438)]

SONIC BLISSFULNESS ....The Clarity of each speaker was mind blowing to me..

PROS: The sound quality was tremendous..Couldn't be happier.

CONS: Cant think of any besides having to go to the Ace Hardware to get the proper screw size to mount the speakers in speaker mounts that Monoprice sales.. i had to buy a 1/4 inch x 20 thread size screws to fit the holes in the back of the satelites..

    tiny MONSTER!
I can't say enough about this system. It is outstanding in every aspect of music, movies, surround programs. Had this system been available years ago, I would have three of them! Monoprice recommends the splitter for the sub. I installed it when I set-up the system and like I said, "Outstanding."

PROS: Great bass, mids and treble! The balance between them is very accurate and complimentary of each other. The sub is outstanding! This small system is Exceptional in every way!

CONS: I wish there were 2 more speakers for a 7.1 receiver.

    The Speakers are Faily Good.
Overall the set is pretty solid, so long as my next center speaker doesn't sound the same way, I'd give this a 5/5

PROS: All the satellite speakers worked perfectly as well as the subwoofer. Do note that you will have to get a y splitter for the subwoofer if your AVR does not support RCA L/R.

CONS: My center speaker was not working correctly. It was faulty. Once loud scenes came up the speaker would start to sound staticky as well as the treble and bass on it were bad. I think I just got a bad speaker and already got an RMA for it.

Excellent sound even in a big room, but caution on speaker pins
Bought these for my father for Christmas this year as he previously had a mis-matched 5.1 system consistent of various brands he'd picked up at garage sales over the years. His living room is fairly large and has a vaulted 20+ ft ceiling so I didn't know if these little speakers would be enough (I was debating between the cheaper monoprice 5.1 system and this "Premium" one.)

After installing these and getting them calibrated with his Denon receiver using the Audessey setup system, they really sounded excellent. Well beyond my expectations given the price. (For reference, I have the Definitive ProCinema600s for my own home system and I would say these speakers sounded nearly as nice!)

Very good sound from a small package. I'd highly recommend these to anyone. The price can't be beat.

Now on to the cons -- I bought the monoprice speaker pins (note: NOT banana plugs) to attach these and was a little disappointed. The shape of the pin interferes slightly with the mounting bracket. What I mean is that the thin part of the pin won't insert all the way through the holes because the wider part of the pin rubs on the outer part of the recessed part of the speaker. So I had to get a pair of pliers and bend the pins about 5-10 degrees to make them fit. Unfortunately, this resulted in one of the pins breaking.

Also, the pins occasionally though each other and short out. I think this will be fixed when I mount them on stands though. In the meantime I put a small piece of styrofoam from the speaker packaging in between the pins to keep them separated.
