what kind of crossover do these speakers have?
    A shopper on Oct 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I removed the speakers and hotglued on the woofer back frame is a 100 volt, 2 microfarad electrolytic capacitor made by SPT. It is wired on the positive side of the speaker wired in series between the input terminal cup and the positive speaker terminal. There are no identifiable markings on either the woofer or tweeter. 2 microfarads is very close to 5000 hertz crossover point. I just wonder how much a difference a true two-way crossover would make but two 2nd order crossover boards would cost close to the price paid for the speakers. Some bloggers on some of the forums say that the capacitor is very adequate as a crossover on ribbon tweeters.
How wide is the box? 6.7" or 7.6"?
    Joaquin A on May 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 7.6 also see picture of front and back ensemble on:

    Great value
These are pretty good, especially for the price. The ribbon tweeters sound great, and highs are very detailed. The cones are decent, but nothing special -- mids are good, bass is slightly hollow and not particularly detailed.

    Good bang for the buck!
overall this is a nice sounding speaker. I am however an audiophile, sooooo of course i took them apart before even playing them. Only one cap on the tweeter! woofer plays wide open. For the average listener these will be much appreciated. The ribbon tweeter is as expected, sweeeet! The bass is solid. keep in mind the price being paid, so don't complain if they don't sound like the legacy whisper! needless to say, i will mod the crossover. (that's just me) Go ahead and buy and enjoy them!

Nice highs. Overall great for the price.
The highs are lovely. low mid and bass frequency response is a little rough but what you would expect for the price. I used to work for 2 speaker manufacturers, one of the best high end audio video stores in the U.S., as well as in the headquarters of largest big box electronics chain so I have spent many hours evaluating speakers. It is amazing that a speaker this good can sell for this price point.

5 Stars for combination of quality and value
Really nice bookshelf speakers for my basement. These are not 5-star at any price but certainly 5-star at this price. I'm very happy.

    Great for the $$
Really good for the price. If I were wish for improvement it would be in the bass. It seems the driver will do it but the cabinet/crossover may need to be adjusted. Either way, still a good value speaker.
