how do I connect the MS-8 to my receiver?
    A shopper on Nov 28, 2016

Question about this unit .. So i have a Sony Stereo right now with 4 speaker outputs. I have 4 pioneer speakers connected and I want to connect 2 more speakers to my deck using the same receiver. Is this what these units are made for? So it will give me 6 outputs instead of 4 (well 8 total but i will only use 6 right now)? I don't want to degrade my sound quality I have now or have it be lowered and also don't want to have to buy another receiver and connect them. Would this be what im looking for? This acts like another A/B switch?
    Tom S on Mar 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You would install this as the output for one of your speaker pairs and then you would have 8 outputs instead of just the one. So you would have an A set of speakers and 8 sets of B speakers. This replicates a single set of speakers into 8 outputs of the same signal. It appears to be equivalent to the Niles Audio speaker selector which costs around 200 (if I remember correctly).
Would this work to combine the left and right output from an amplifier into one speaker? The idea is to attach the left output from one "zone" button to a single speaker, and the right output from a different "zone" button to that same speaker. My client can only use one speaker outside, and I haven't been able to find a stereo-to-mono converter for speaker-level output.

can I play all 8 Channels at the same time?
    A shopper on Aug 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can. Each "channel" connects to a pair of speakers, often in different rooms in the house. A pair in each of four bedrooms, living room, family room, den, and patio. Input to this device likely comes from an output of a home theater receiver. Then you use this device to SELECT which rooms (pairs of speakers) will hear what's playing. Whole house. Patio only. Etc.
Does it work good with (monoprice Product ID: 8243) volume controls with this device? I would assume it would work but figured I'd see if others are doing this.
    Darren M on Oct 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Have not used with 8243 volume control as I have it connected directly with my receiver. Works flawlessly in my situation.
I want to hook up a Sonos Connect to this as the input and output as mono, with each channel going to a separate monoprice 8 speaker selector in order to power a total of 13 speakers that are playing in mono. Would it work like this? Would it have enough power to act as background music?

Monoprice Commercial Audio 120W 2ch Mixer Amp (No Logo)
Monoprice Commercial Audio 120W 2ch Mixer Amp (No Logo)
BEST ANSWER: I have 5 mono speakers and one pair of speakers, which work OK. At times it will come in, then out, then in in 5-10 second periods. Quite annoying. I doubt it would work for what you are suggesting.

PS - The fan is a bit loud too.
The directions indicate you should activate the impedance protection circuit to prevent the impedance dropping below 5 Ohms. The only button on the front states to engage when using one pair of speakers. When using the 8 Channel Monoprice to run 8 pairs of speakers should this switch be in the Off position?
    New User U on Apr 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The directions are a little confusing. We are working to get them cleared up. The front button essentially limits the resistance to the amp so it only sees a 5Ω load and does not over heat. The single Speaker button should be on when using multiple speaker at one time.
Does this speaker selector have a fuse built in? If so, is it something that can be replaced? I have had this model for a couple of years now and it worked great up until today. The signal is no longer passing through the selector.
    Richard D on Dec 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This speaker selector does not have any fuses. It does have Protection Circuit High Power Resistors. If there was a recent power spike that may have gone to the speaker it may have blown one of these resistors. These are typically not easily replaceable. It is on sale right for $22
I have this running zone2 on a denon avr s720w. Can I have different size speakers on the channels of this device? I have 4" in the bedroom, but want to put larger 6" or 8" in the patio and bonus room. Thanks
    David H on Jun 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Yes, you can have different sized speakers installed. Keep in mind that when you are adding speakers the wattage is going to be shared. Also be sure to keep the impedance the same with all the speakers.

    Works Perfectly
This unit works perfectly, as specified. Since this is a passive device (not externally powered) I was concerned that the volume would drop in each room as I turned on zones. I was pleasantly surprised that this is not a problem. I should state that my AV unit can handle 125 per channel, and that seems to be more than enough for this monoprice 8-channel selector to maintain consistent sound in each zone. The unit is also designed to handle between 100 and 200 watts depending on whether the circuit protection is turned on or off. That said, this unit keeps the speakers impedance within safe limits, no matter how many zones I have running at the same time.

PROS: Does exactly what it should, distributes stereo sound to eight other sets of speakers in different areas of your house (eight zones). It is also a well constructed case. It is easy to set-up and you can use up to 14 awg speaker wires. It's completely quiet, and does not get hot.

CONS: Only two SMALL cons. The labels are tiny, but they work. Not a big deal. And I'd love to see this unit have independent volume control on each zone. But since this unit is so inexpensive, I don't mind not having this feature!

    Great little unit
    Great price, nice item

PROS: Very convenient, good size, great price

I was looking for something that could use to help me solve my speaker issue I was having with Dennon receiver to allow me to utilize it as a whole house speaker system. With the speaker selector, I am able to utilize all the speakers in my home that I had pre-wired at build time and select which speakers I want playing at any given time. The 8 Channel speaker selector did the trick at the right price. There are plenty to choose from out on the market, but they are very cost prohibitive. The sound coming from speakers sound as though they are directly connected. I love it and will purchase another one to add some additional speakers.

PROS: I don't have to use up all my speaker ports on my receiver. I just dedicate a few ports to channel selector and then I can add up to 8 more speakers without worrying blowing my receiver.

    CONS: None

Unit is running very hot. Strange but I can hear music from the unit. This unit is kept in its own control room. Plently of cool air around it but I worry it will damage my new amp. No thermal protections have been tripped but still makes me worry.

PROS: Allows selection of up to 8 zones. Currently using about 6. All eight will be used shortly.

CONS: Running very hot. Can hear music from device.

    Works Perfectly
Overall fit, finish and quality were very good. The connector size is tight for the speaker cable I am using but that is just nitpicking and the instructions were clear that my gauge was above the specs for the unit. I purchased two and bridged them to manage 15 zones and it worked perfectly

    Just simply works
Was a bit confused with all the inputs and outputs, as it seems you could actually hook up 16 speakers. But there is a button on the front for single function. Hook up the B side on my receiver as the output to the monoprice speaker selector's input. So far have hooked up channels 8-6, and the thing just works. Zero problems. Feel no heat and hear no noise from the unit.

    PROS: No power required
    Excellent build
    Excepts 14 gauge speaker cable
    Worked without any hassle.

    CONS: None

    volume issues
It works ok. the volume goes down drastically when using multiple speakers. It only works well when you select one pair of speakers and push the single pair button.. I would like to know if this is normal or i have a defective product.

Great product and doesnot require any power, just plug in the speakers.

    PROS: Price, Simple to install

I use this with a denon X2000 zone 2 through a Yamaha 100W reciever(1988 model year). I have 7 zones hooked up. I have done several maximum volume tests, have not noticed any difference between any of the zones. Can really get the house rock in, I use the Denon app with a tablet to control volume and inputs with both zones, only draw back with my set up is individual volume and being able to turn zone off or on remotely. I used 14 gauge to the selector and 16 gauge from the selector. 14 gauge will work but 16 worked quite a bit better and no chance of the wire pulling out. When you hook up 8 pairs in a tight cabinet there are wires every where. If doing whole house audio and want an inexpensive way to accomplish your goal using this speaker selector is the way to go. Also when building a new house just run wire to each room and patio/deck is the best advice I can give even if you never hook those wires up.

PROS: Solid construction, easy to hook up,

CONS: None, for 30 dollars never expected this quailty

My first one has been working for 2+ years feeding 8 zones without any trouble.

I ordered 2 more since then,

one for inside & outside the garage, and one sitting in a box waiting for me to set up a 2nd receiver system for in & outside the rest of the house.

Great item at a cheap price,

    thanks Monoprice!
