Outdoor Speaker Volume Controller RMS 100W - Gray

You're out in your yard enjoying your pool or BBQ. You've set up your outdoor sound system so that you can listen to music while you relax. What a hassle it is to go all the way back inside your house just to adjust the volume. Wouldn't it be easier to have a volume controller out in your patio?

Here's your solution: an outdoor speaker volume controller. This specially designed unit comes in a weatherproof, sealed enclosure specifically designed for ootdoor installations. A simple rotary design allows you to set your audio to the perfect listening level.

The water resistant enclosure also makes it perfect for marine (boating) applications.

This rotary control can be set to one of twelve positions, including the minimum (off) and maximum volume settings.

When setting up the speaker volume controls, it is important to match the impedance of your speaker system with the load rating of your amplifier. This is done by setting the jumpers on the volume control to compensate for the number of speakers you have in a parallel configuration and the impedance level of the speakers.

If using a single pair of speakers rated at the same load level as your amplifier, you don't need to make any changes - just leave the jumper in the default x1 position. However, if your speakers are of a different impedance level and/or you have more than one set of speakers in parallel, please refer to the following chart as a guide for setting the jumpers on the speaker volume control.

Note that for any speakers wired in series, the overall impedance level is the sum of each speaker. So two 4 ohm speakers wired in series is the same impedance as a single 8 ohm speaker.

The connectors are very hard to access, and even harder to screw down, with the outer case in the way. 14 AWG wires barely fit in the connectors, and fit very poorly in the case. It took several attempts to get a tight enough fit in the connectors that the wire would hold and not pop out while jamming the cover closed on the case. You cannot use a regular screw bit to tighten the case as the hole is too small - you need to use an eyeglass screwdriver or something similar.

I did not have these problems with the indoor volume control.

    Looked better than it is
Unfortunately, I had a client with a very particular installation requirement, and these controls looked to be the same as what he had installed. I found they were much lesser quality once they arrived. As other reviews have stated, if you're using 14 gauge speaker wire the fit will be near impossible. Even with your tails as short as you can manage, the casing is so packed that it's difficult to close, and turning the knob becomes more difficult and has a washy play between notches. The white rubber gasket that comes with the unit is oversized for the casing, and the little gaskets for the screws basically disintegrate when you unscrew them. The price looked good to begin with, but after shipping, exchange and duties they come out to nearly $45 each. 1 of the 4 controls I ordered is defective, but I don't know if I want to exchange with the same kind, especially now that I've passed the 30 day mark. These were the only outdoor volume controls I could find, but it may be better to get a better quality indoor style and use a hinged weatherproof casing.

PROS: Cheap, and the only weatherproof (time will tell) volume control I could find.

    CONS: Poor design

    Poor quality

    Useless gaskets

    Terrible
This is my first bad experiene with a product ordered from Monoprice, but man was it a bad one. First of all, with the way the circuit board is designed, there is next to zero space for wires. You have to try to route wires around the screws or jam them in there or cut them back to as short as possible. Terrible design. Second, because of the terrible design, the gasket made to keep water out doesn't stay in place, so you might as well silicone the box once put together to seal everything. Third, because you have to jam everything in there, the cheap plastic warps a bit so the screws have to really hold on to keep everything in place. And the final issue, longevity. I bought this in December and by February it was toast. You could see the epoxy on the circuits peeling off and it smelled like burnt electronics. I don't want to send it in for an RMA, because I'm told you have to pay for return shipping after 30 days. With that being the case, you might as well order a new one if you have anything else to order from Monoprice, which I did. Let's hope the next one lasts longer, and at least I'll be used to making the terrible design work after the headache the first time.

Overall a great design and does exactly what I wanted them to. The box is small and tight but I don't think I would be happy with a larger box mounted on my wall. Great deal and does the job well.

PROS: Solid Design, Easy to Install, Looks good mounted on my patio.

CONS: I have 6 Yamaha outdoor speakers and 2 of them are being controlled with this box on my patio. The unit does exactly what it is supposed to but the sound from these 2 speakers even at full volume is a little lower than the other 4 that are directly connected to the receiver.

    Volume control
Great choice, easy to wire with good instructions.

PROS: Arrived in short time. Works great.

CONS: Small wire connections, but that is needed for the size of the unit.

    Outstanding deal
If your on the fence about the quality of this volume control don't be. Just buy it.

PROS: Well built, includes all the gaskets, speaker terminals come off for easy installation. Can't get over how inexpensive it is.

    CONS: None

    5/5

PROS: Works as advertised, very easy to install. The online video has all the info you need.

CONS: One volume controller they sent me was defective, I called Monoprice and they shipped me out another one right away and that one works perfect.

    Product no longer working
This product did work for 2 years, but now no longer works properly. It isnt like the volume control is fully exposed to elements either since it is in my porch. Essentially one speaker is working fine but the other one isnt coming out properly. Having removed all the wires and reconnected them without the volume control, i can see the volume control is the problem. I have tried to fix the potentiometer with some fader lube but didnt work either. Now I have to buy another one since this one is likely out of warranty...but cant say I would want to replace it with the same one anyway. I dont recommend this product.

    Really tight fit
I still don't know how this control works because I haven't been able to get it closed. Because of the length of my wire run, I needed to use 12 awg wire and it doesn't fit. Even with 14 awg, it would be a challenge to get this thing closed. The connectors are pluggable (thank goodness) but inconveniently located and really crammed in there. The unit itself takes up so much room that there is no room for the wire, even if I'd used 14 or 16 awg. Any outdoor installation is likely to have long wire runs and require larger wire – the manufacturer should have known this. I'm trying to find another conduit box to put it all in.

PROS: price, pluggable connectors, seems well built

CONS: Enclosure is too small and the connectors are inconveniently located. Wouldn't work unless you used really small wires which would require the amp to be very near - most likely outdoors and make this control unnecessary.

worked for awhile, but dead now
easy installation. I like the wiring plug-ins...makes it much easier to install. but, I experienced the same thing others have...volume control performance became sketchy after awhile and 1 year later, caused an overload at my amplifier. fortunately, amp has overload circuitry to save it. wired up amp straight to outdoor speakers and they work fine...volume controller is the culprit. stay away from this one.

    PROS: nice wiring plug-ins

CONS: worked for only 1 year
