Speaker Volume Controller RMS 100W (Slide Type) - White

This is a slide-type wall plate volume control for speaker systems with power ratings of up to 100 watts per channel and impedance ratings of 4 to 16 ohms. This slider control can be set to one of twelve positions, including the minimum (off) and maximum volume settings.

The wall plate mounts into a standard single-gang, low-voltage wall bracket (not included) and has inputs and outputs for one pair of stereo speaker wires (4 input connections and 4 output connections). It can accept speaker wire in sizes from 14 to 22 gauge and provides a frequency response range of 35 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-2db) at the full power rating of 100 watts per channel.

Please note: This volume control does not include a wall mounting bracket.

    Support Files:

    Specifications
Input 2 channels, 100 watts per channel
Output 2 channels, 4 to 16 ohms impedance matching
Frequency Response 35 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-2 db) at rated power
Wire gauge 14 to 16 AWG
    Material Plastic ABS
    Depth 2 3/4"

When setting up the speaker volume controls, it is important to match the impedance of your speaker system with the load rating of your amplifier. This is done by setting the jumpers on the volume control to compensate for the number of speakers you have in a parallel configuration and the impedance level of the speakers.

If using a single pair of speakers rated at the same load level as your amplifier, you don't need to make any changes - just leave the jumper in the default x1 position. However, if your speakers are of a different impedance level and/or you have more than one set of speakers in parallel, please refer to the following chart as a guide for setting the jumpers on the speaker volume control.

Note that for any speakers wired in series, the overal impedance level is the sum of each speaker. So two 4 ohm speakers wired in series is the same impedance as a single 8 ohm speaker.

CONS: Inputs for wires are from the LH side. This makes it very tight if you installing the volume control to a box attached to the stud on that side.

I installed two sets of speakers. One without volume control and one with. The set of speakers going through the volume control had the vocals in certain songs muted or more background sound to the instrumental sounds compared to the other set of speakers. When I removed the volume control the vocals were stronger and the instrumental sounds were now more of the background sound.

Thought I woulda learned my lesson the first time...
I have bought a total of 6 of these. Four for use in the house....2 to replace. One just never worked and I never bothered to RMA and the other one of the channels just up and quit.

Every single one of them have a different "tension". The old ones are a lot easier to adjust the volume. The new ones I feel like it would rip something out of the wall I gotta use so much force. Though admittedly like others here, impression of these things is that they are so cheap I don't think it would....rather I found myself supporting the top and bottom with one hand and sliding the volume with the other.

In all honesty, if I could, looking now....I would refund every single one I have and get something that despite likely being made in China, didn't actually look and feel like it.

PROS: They do the job....they adjust volume.

CONS: I think that is about it because they otherwise are garbage and totally inconsistent in build.

Oh, and the instructions are useless...make no mention of impedence matching. Like someone else said, you have to hunt for them here.

    Sliders break to easily
As above, this item is great until it breaks on you. I have purchased two for a basement remodel and I already RMA'd one because the slider was broken upon arrival. It's replacement has just broken in the same manner. I do have one that is still operational, but it feels like it is only a matter of time until that one suffers the same fate as well. The tabs that connect the inner slider to the one you see are cheap flimsy plastic. Simply using the unit as intended will break one of these tabs and then the slider is useless. These may be have the price of others, but I would just shell out the $50 for a functioning unit I didn't have to worry about. Monoprice should really scrutinize this product.

PROS: Before the sliding control breaks, they are as advertised and do a nice job.

CONS: The slider will break, rendering it useless.

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 8246. I will submit a complaint to our product team so they can look into the matter further. For now, if you would like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement. We offer a one year warranty for this controller and obtaining a replacement would be of no additional cost. If you wanted to proceed with the RMA, please let me know and I can get that started right away. Apologies again for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope this helps!

    Works great
I bought this speaker control because I could not find a similar item anywhere, tried Home Depot, The Source, etc It was easy to install as I had home pre-wired for out door speakers. Now if only there was a way to control if via remote....

    PROS: Works and looks great

CONS: Thicker gauge wire may have trouble connecting but for most I would say it won't be an issue.

Bought 9 of these, and had to exchange 2 of them due to one channel cutting out at certain volume steps. Recommend testing out both channels at every volume step after installation. Monoprice exchanged them promptly. Thank you always!

PROS: Works as advertised for about 1/5 the price of a Niles controller.

CONS: Material is a little on the lower end in quality. Plastic lever is very light and has a slight play in it as you select it from notch to notch.
