When setting up the speaker volume controls, it is important to match the impedance of your speaker system with the load rating of your amplifier. This is done by setting the jumpers on the volume control to compensate for the number of speakers you have in a parallel configuration and the impedance level of the speakers.

If using a single pair of speakers rated at the same load level as your amplifier, you don't need to make any changes - just leave the jumper in the default x1 position. However, if your speakers are of a different impedance level and/or you have more than one set of speakers in parallel, please refer to the following chart as a guide for setting the jumpers on the speaker volume control.

Note that for any speakers wired in series, the overal impedance level is the sum of each speaker. So two 4 ohm speakers wired in series is the same impedance as a single 8 ohm speaker.

does this volume control work with 70 v speakers?
    phil g on May 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but not perfectly. I have found two settings (low and high) which work great, but the settings are not fine-tuned like a continouspresmp. Overall though you can't beat what the product does for the price.
What size are the jumpers that adjust impedance? I either got one shipped with only a single jumper or more likely lost it during the installation as I was cramming the controller into my wall? I was hoping to pick up some spares. 2.54 mm?
    A shopper on Dec 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry to hear that, please feel free to contact us at tech@monoprice.com with a detailed summary of the issue you are experiencing and our knowledgeable Technical Support staff would be more than happy to assist. Thank you
I have this 100w controller in every room in my house. Most of the speakers are just 1 input and one 8 ohm speaker on the output. My Yamaha receiver is an 8 ohm receiver. What dip switch settings would just the one speaker volume controller have? In the larger rooms I wired one input from the receiver and have two speakers that are 8 ohms each on the output side, Same 8 ohm Yamaha receiver. What dip switch settings should this volume controller have? Also should I wire the speakers in series?
    Justin W on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: For your scenario you can leave the jumpers in their default position.
i need in black color, do you have?
    ANA LUISA L on Mar 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we would not carry this volume controller in black.
    Can this be mounted outside?
    A shopper on Jan 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is a model for indoor and a model made specifically for outdoor. The indoor model has nothing to seal out moisture. The outdoor one costs twice as much. I have both and they work great for their designed purpose.
I have a sonos zoneplayer 120. I’m running 4 speakers from it. 2 on the left balance and 2 on the right balance. The 2 on the right balance are mounted inside and I would like to add a little more volume to each speaker independently. Will this volume controller work for that?
    A shopper on Apr 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is not a powered volume control so I do not believe it will work like you want it to. This volume controller at max volume only passes through your amplifier signal to the speaker. When you lower the volume controller it lowers the amplifier signal. If you turned your amplifier sound up, then you could lower the volume control on the speakers you don't want as loud.
    Measurements of knob?
    A shopper on Feb 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The volume knob is about 1.5" diamter and 0.5" height.
How do I know how much wattage to buy? I do not have a receiver picked out yet. Should I just get the 100 Watts to be on the safe side? Also, how do I know what the impedance of my speakers are?
    Sean S on Jan 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Get the 100 watt volume control. It's worth the small difference in price. The speakers will indicate their "nominal impedance" on the spec sheet that accompanies the speaker. If you don't have that sheet, look up the brand and model on line and look for the specifications. The actual impedance of a loudspeaker varies across the frequency spectrum. Manufacturers rate the impedance of their speakers as an approximation of what they typically present to your amplifier. You can use this rating to help you pick the right receiver for your speakers (most speakers of any worth are rated to work with 8 ohm and 4 ohm speakers). - Brian, Sweet Home Audio (Dealer).
Does the back of the volume control put out heat?
    A shopper on Aug 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I do not believe so. If it does it is not much. I have felt the front of the volume control and it does not get hot.
Will this volume control boost the speakers output?
    A shopper on Jun 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No it will not boost the volume, it will only control what the input volume is. I have my amp/rec, located in coat closet, volume set around 50% to the outdoor speakers and have this by the back door for easier volume convenience..
Does this have adjustable impedance magnification switch (2x, 4x, and 8x) like the Niles VCS100K?
    Samuel R on Sep 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there is a jumper that can be switched.
I have a single 4 ohm speaker (1/2 of a pair) and a 8 ohm receiver, should i set the jumper to 1x or 2x?
    Jean-Nicolas F on Jan 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, leave the jumper at 1x.
Do you have colors other than white?
    A shopper on Jan 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Our indoor volume controllers are only available in white.
Will this volume controller fit a 2-gang "Dacora" style wall plate? If not, do you have a recommendation? I would like to add this volume controller to a 2-gang wall box shared by a standard 110v light switch. Thank you! -Adam

Monoprice Blackbird 4K HDBaseT Wall Plate Scaler Transmitter, 2 Gang, Decora, HDMI, VGA, PoC, Bidirectional RS232
BEST ANSWER: Will this fit? Yes. Should you do it? NO. You really don't want to put low voltage items in the same box as 110 items--if for no other reason that in the event of a fire you might end up with an adjuster who denies your claim based on unsafe electrical practices. It's pretty easy to mount a low voltage plate (Monoprice has them cheap and cutting wallboard is a snap) and mount this separately, and I would strongly suggest that.
The system I'm working is a 70v mono signal, I. Realize this is a stereo box, however USB there a way to run a mono signal through it and if so how?
    A shopper on Sep 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in this volume control. This unit is not rated for 70V use. We are working to have one for next year.
I am a bit confused as to the capability of this volume control. I wish to have a volume control in each room feeding a set of speakers in that room. There will be a single source which will feed all volume controls. I'm not sure from the documentation provided if the impedance is adjusted on the input or output side of the volume control. Vendors of similar volume controllers have the same jumper config and it appears that they adjust the impedance at the input side so I would not need to add a impedance matching switch before the volume controls. Is this the case with your control? It would appear that your control adjusts impedance at the output side so it will support multiple sets of speakers in parallel one volume control. Can you please clarify the proper function of your control. Thanks you.
    New User U on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This volume controller will not match speaker impedance on the amp. 2 pairs of 8 ohm speaker will present a 4 ohm load to the amp. Since most amps are stable only to 4 or 8 ohms you will only be able to run 2-4 pairs of speakers in parallel.
It is unclear to me whether this control is designed to balance multiple speakers on the output or input side of the switch. Other similar products from other manufacturers with the same jumper configs show different configs. I want to control the volume of one set of speakers in each room from one source. Can someone clarify for me? thanks
    A shopper on Jan 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The volume controller will not effect speaker impedance. Most home amplifiers are only stable to 4? which means you can only run two 8? speaker pairs per output. If you amp or receiver has an option B output then you can run another 2 pairs from it for a total of 4 pairs of 8? speakers.

    Absolute Garbage
All of you who gave this product a great review, I urge you to measure the actual impedance going to your amp. You are more than likely damaging your amp, the expected impedance is not what you are led to believe. I have gone through 6 of these volume controllers, all of which had the same issue, a simple 2 speaker pair configuration: 2 pairs of 6 ohm speakers with the controller in 2X jumper configuration. The expected impedance at the amp should be 6 ohms. I measure anywhere from 2 ohms to 4 ohms on my amp. the amp is only rated for 6-16 ohm speakers. The impedance also changes when the volume knob is increased or decreased, the impedance should stay the same regardless of volume position.I contacted customer service multiple times to get a clarification on how the controllers work and get no where.I all I get in response is an RMA option for exchange or return. In my experience these units don't impedance match.

    PROS: cheap price

    CONS: doesn't work as advertised

    100 watt Volume Control
Ordered two of these 100 watt volume controls for my deck speakers, installed one and only worked on one channel, on top of that the knob was very hard to turn. Installed the second one without issues and was pleased with the sound .Monoprice shipped me another to replace the defective one without delay or having to return the original. Make sure you have deep single gang box or better yet an open back low voltage box. As a professional installer I would not

recommend these for a customer installation. Although the price is inexpensive the call back possibility will quickly erode any savings. Very cheaply made, but good sound quality and adequate for light duty use. We will have to see the long term reliability. Very pleased with Monoprice customer service.

PROS: Inexpensive volume control, great sound quality,

CONS: Cheaply made, sloppy feel. Need deep single gang box or better yet open back low voltage box. Ordered two one didn't work properly, but Monoprice shipped me another one without having to return the original. Work well for price and sound is terrific, Would not use these for a customer installation, too many quality control issues. Get what you pay for.

Rotary Audio Volume Control (100 watt handling capability)

PROS: Nice design. Perfectly match my existing Decora light switch plates. Little to zero loss in sound quality and volume. Knob has discreet settings and I like the subtle "click" sounds as the knob is rotated.

CONS: After very little use, for reasons unknown, turning the knob felt like gum was stuck inside. The nice clicking sound disappeared, the knob was a chore to turn, and it felt rubbery, which rendered this volume control to be completely unacceptable. I purchased seven of these, but have only used one, so far, as part of a test setup before installing the rest of them throughout my house. It may be that this defect may be isolated to the one VC that I chose to use, but I'm not taking a chance and will return the rest for a refund.

    Functional and capable
Typical product from Monoprice: cheap and functional. This device is better capable of handling the lower parts of the audio spectrum. I blew through 2 of the 75W models with my 88W Kenwood receiver despite having the bass control all the way down. This model can pump out some heavy sound while keeping highs crisp and undistorted.

If you need a great volume controller, spend the little bit of extra money and buy this 100W model. You won't regret it.

PROS: Device is built better than the 50W and 75W models.

CONS: Much larger transformers than the smaller models means that you have to modify your gang box. I'm using a steel case gang box with "battleships" for retainers, and I had to take off the side panel of the box to fit this unit into the wall.

Ordered Two - One works the other is bad
One was bad, ran extremely hot - dangerous. Then stopped working all together. Second one operates properly.

going to need to have the defective unit replace. I wasted several hours troubleshooting this - in the end, it was just a defective unit... A little frustrated. I understand this sort of thing happens - but reading the reviews, it seems that it's a little too regular for this to happen. This is a poorly manufactured/tested product.

    White is not so White
Had to get a 2 gang box and keep the one side blank, as this wouldn't fit into a regular single gang old-work box. Didn't want to use a low voltage ring, as the audio transformers would get dust all over them.

The Decora Face and knob on this are NOT WHITE. When i put the white plate cover on, it's VERY off-white.

PROS: Works greatrotary knob is BIG

CONS: unit is very big won't fit in all elec. boxes.

    Great product
Fairly easy to install, clear instructions. Works well. I have it installed for 2nd zone speakers on a porch, works great, and makes it so you don't have to go inside to change the volume.

    PROS: Works well.

CONS: Requires very deep outlet box, not standard box

    Speaker Volume Control
We already have several throughout our home. We ordered 2 additional to complete all areas that they are needed. This piece does what we have it used for and they are easy to use and they fit in the areas that we have slated them for.
