If I a putting this in very small home theater (12x12 room) Do I need the subwoofer? I'd pair these with the 8" for the rears, and the matching center. Seems like enough bass in that small space...or is it worth adding you 12" sub? I don't want to overwhelm the space.

BEST ANSWER: I'm running all Amber carbon/ribbon speakers (with the exception of my sub) in my Atmos 7.1.4 setup. The sub is a boxed & ported 8inch of a different brand. You'll want a dedicated boxed sub to get those real lows. It won't be over-whelming or too bass-ee.
Would these speakers be qualified to use in a Dolby Atmos setup?

BEST ANSWER: The way Atmos works in-wall and ceiling speakers have a much better chance than before to sound great in a home theater setup. Especially if you can supply the max channels your atmos receiver can handle. I’m sure it will sound great with 5 channels and you may even want to expand in the future. Use the 8in rears if you can. You won’t regret it. You can also add more channels in the future which is nice. Atmos is very flexible.

How is the sound of the center speaker?
    A C on Jan 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I'd say the center is the best sounding out of the box. Clear, sharp and can handle some power/volume ... considering there is not real bass requirement for center speakers. For the L & R consider back filling with else insulation or your preferred sound deadening material to keep them from being too "bright".
My wall studs are 16" on center, leaving about 14" in stud space. That seems tight for the center speaker. Will it work?
    Jason T on Sep 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I just completed my home theater about 3 weeks ago and used this center channel. It fit perfectly. I think it was designed for standard American wall stud placement of 16" on center. By the way, I used all monoprice amber speakers except for the subwoofer, which was also monoprice, but a different line, and the theater sounds awesome.
Can this be mounted on the ceiling?
    A shopper on May 6, 2018
    BEST ANSWER: Yes!
In fact, these speakers are what should be used for the VOG (Voice of God) ceiling speaker
    in AUROS 3D surround setups.
    Look?
One could use for all channels in anY of the ATMOS/DTS-X/AUROS 3D surround systems.
Then all you'd need is a Yamaha AV Receiver to power them.
I choose Yamaha because I've learned over my 25 yrs or so of HT experience, that,
Yamaha receivers can drive all ohm loads from 4ohm - 8ohm without getting hot.
Even their entry level receivers are ohm switchable.
This translates to better performance and extended receiver life.
    Overheating is bad for Receivers.
Onkyo, Denon, etc.. run HOT when driving speakers of 6ohm or lower
as it puts a heavy load on the unit's amps to push that current.
Yamaha's amps are built to be ready to drive whatever flavor of speaker
your home theater may consist of..like say...these Ambers. LoL.
Anywho ... yes these will work great as overhead ceiling/surround speakers.

The Amber and Alpha magnetic grilles are listed as being paintable - however, they have a thin cloth liner that looks to be spot-glued in the inside. When painting with spray paint, is it recommended to remove this cloth liner, and if so, how? Because it seems to be glued in, and when attempting so see if it was removable, I was most certainly going to rip it.

BEST ANSWER: The cloth scrims can be gently removed from the metal grill intact allowing the grills to be spray painted. The cloth scrims are there to make the speakers behind the grill less visible, if you want that look then you can replace scrims. If you as not worried about the shadows of the drivers being somewhat visible then you can omit the scrims.
Could I bridge a two channel 100 watt monoprice amplifier into this one channel speaker? Confused because each speaker inside says 60 watt RMS each. Not very knowledgeable but was trying to figure this out.
    New User U on Jul 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Rms is a standard wide rating for power. I would not. Save your money and buy a amp for each channel 100 wt is more than enough for 60 wt
I have bought this Amber series in wall and in ceiling speakers for my home theater. My ht has roxul sound proof insulation on three sides of wall and ceiling. One side of wall is hollow connecting to foundation wall (theater is in basement). My question is. (1) for wall with Roxul insulation, do I need to make some hollow space behind and above speakers in wall?
(2)for hollow wall, should install any thing around speakers for best performance?

    Thank you
    sunil p on Feb 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 1: A little space would be good but I wouldn't make it very large. It's the difference between a sealed cabinet and a vented enclosure. If its vented you want light stuffing. Sealed heavier. These are sealed so just a little room so that your not suffocating the speaker.
2: Yes, anything that doesn't reflect sound. You can get sheets of foam from amazon. The more dense the better. Line the perimeter and the back wall. This will improve sound quality dramatically.

Are you using these speakers for Atmos? I have been dying to try the Amber series for that.
Is a back box recommended? If so, specs?
    A shopper on Jan 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No. The wall provides the enclosure.. Also, the way the mounting clips are situated on the speaker, it's almost impossible to add an enclosure to it. I installed mine in a standard 16" on center framing. There is not much room behind the speaker using standard 2×4 studs. But if you have 2×6" studs, you might be able to make an enclosure just above and below the speaker if you require better bass response.
I am curious as to the weight of this center speaker?

The clips just need working in
I have read a lot of reviews about the clips being bad on mono price speakers. I think I have found a solution.

The screws are very stiff in the clips. So when you try to install there is too much torque on the orienting cylinder and they pop out making them not aligned and then they break.

With the speaker out using a electric screw driver screw them in and out four times while you are holding the clip straight. Once you do that they work great.

    Awesome value
This is a good choice for a budget in wall center channel. I didn't have any problems installing it and it sounds pretty good paired with my Denon x2300w.

    Fantastic
I love to listen to music and watch movies. I used this for the center channel of a family room 5.2.2 Atmos system I installed myself in my walls and ceiling. For the room, size 5.2.2 is all I needed. It is by far and away the best sounding system I have ever had... and I have spent a lot of money on speakers over the years. The Amber in-wall speakers are crystal clear and the build quality is quite amazing for a speaker at this price point. I don't think you can beat it for the money. You do have to be careful with the wall tabs during installation as others have mentioned. If you use a screwdriver to install them instead of a drill/driver you will be fine. That's the only negative thing I can say about them. However, the actual speaker component quality and sound quality far outweighs that. I would purchase them again a hundred times.

    Great Speaker
There was no real feedback on this when I purchased it but I've been very pleased with it. I use this as the center channel in my LCR. I have a pair of the Amber 8 inch for the L and R. This speaker installed easy and sounds great. It looks good as well with a very slim bezel.

    100% Accurate!
Note the placement of a "true" midrange driver
    just below the AMT tweeter.
This IS the correct position for the mid driver.
Placing the mid in this way, time aligns the mids
and highs so they reach your ears as close to accurate
as possible without using a concentric or coaxial design
like a KEF speaker for example.
The 3D richness of this center speaker will be unmatched
by the majority of center speakers regardless of price or brand.
Amber obviously knew this when designing this speaker.
In fact, if I were building a set of tower speakers?
I'd likely use these in the top portion of the tower's box
and mated with a 10" subwoofer at the box's bottom.
This would be a tower speaker that'd kill competitors
    costing 10x as much.
IMO: that's where these would really be used to 100% potential.
Many HT fans & audiophiles don't think about adapting in-wall designs for use in traditional speaker boxes.
    Hint Hint Hint!
If you're buying speakers for your livingroom's Home Theater
system, you might consider the hints I listed above, using these
    Amber drivers.
Crossover networks are already included & incorporated in these
in-wall speaker units, so that hard work is done for you.
Factor in the inclusion of an 8" or 10" subwoofer in the box's bottom and you're done!
    Voila' !
3 home made towers assembled as I laid out will make an unbeatable front L-C-R Home Theater soundstage.
Using the same ideas but using smaller boxes and you'd have
    the best surround speakers around.
    Ha!
I think I've talked myself into doing it just to hear the results.
    So,
I guess I'm off to order 3 speaker boxes, 3 passive 10" subwoofers,
3 of these Amber speakers from Monoprice and get to screwing them together.
I'll post it here afterwards, IF, I do take on the assembly.
    I'll close with reminding you:
"These are 100% accurate for center speaker use!"

Great speaker, not so great clips
Can't beat the value, but the clips and screws are hair raising and leave you wondering it enough with be around to keep the speaker in place. In the end, only one broke so it was not that big of a deal.
