BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. While it can be used for a left and a right channel, we recommend using this unit specifically as a center channel. I hope this helps, and of course if you have any more questions feel free to contact us!
Can this be mounted in ceiling?

BEST ANSWER: Yes it can, I have done this setup on both my properties......
You just got to make sure it fits between the studs and there is at least 1 inch gap on either side for the flanges that hook up to the dry wall.
Want to pair this Aria center channel (#6317) with the Caliber 8-in 3-way (#6816) as the LR speakers. This is mainly because the Caliber center channel (#4881) is too wide to fit between two studs. Is this the best way to go or should I use an extra #6816 as the center (seems like that should fit between studs)? I'm concerned with both the sound and looks being different on the Caliber vs. the Aria. The Calibers look to have a bigger frame around the grill while the Aria has a very narrow frame. Will they look and/or sound too different?

BEST ANSWER: Once you paint the grills they should be close enough to not look out of place. the tweeters are also similar so your voicing will be pretty good as well. If you can spend an extra couple of bucks the Alpha series is a better sound and looking set of speakers. The center is only 13" wide so it will fit in your studs.

Compact in size and price, NOT in sound

This is the BEST sounding center channel I've ever heard for this price! Hands-down. This actually replaced a Polk Audio CS-10 center channel for my living room because my home was pre-wired for 5.1 surround, but I never installed an in-wall center channel because I was afraid of poor sound. I finally broke down and installed this center channel to gain addt'l space in my living room and complete the install. My wife and I were both amazed, and we are now selling the Polk Audio speaker as we will not miss it.

Reviewer Note: I am using 6.5" Monoprice in-ceiling speakers for FR/FL, RR/RL, and now this center channel. I have a 10" JBL powered subwoofer. Stay away from passive subwoofers (garbage!). All hooked up using 14 gauge wire (not my choice, installer used it) to a Denon AVR-E400 AV receiver.

PROS: -Smaller than most in-wall center channels on the market

-Best price vs performance of *any* center-channel speaker I've found

    -Backed by Monoprice's customer support

CONS: *not necessarily an issue specific to this speaker, actually applies to all in-wall center channel's*

As noted by previous reviewers, most homes will have a stud right in the center where the speaker needs to go. Often, these speakers are too long in order to be centered properly between left and right channel.

NOTE: No notable sound quality degradation, however, appearance is somewhat degraded since it's slightly off center mounted.

    Decent, but can blow easily.
This is the third I've purchased. I bought my first with high expectations. I bought my second because I blew this one out and had to replace with the same model due to the hole in the wall. For my third and fourth center speaker (new house, two rooms) I opted to split a pair of their higher end ceiling speakers. They were still thin enough to fit in the wall.

I'm only buying a third because this is for my father-in-law, I don't want to buy a pair and I don't think he will really use it loud or much at all.

PROS: Thin, moderate range and pretty. Nice cross-over.

    CONS: Blows easily.

    In Ceiling Speaker
I purchased 3 of these for center speakers in my 7.1 set-up and they sound fantastic. Excellent price point and they deliver crisp voices for music/movies. I installed them in a drop-ceiling.

    Great center speaker...
This is a great choice for today's ultra-thin HDTV's as speakers that hang on the wall protrude too far compared with the TV. This is a great high-quality product, that is easy to install, looks very professional, and sounds great. I would definitely purchase this product again. I am using this as the center-speaker on my Home-Theater system with a new Yamaha RX371V (100 watt RMS) receiver, and older JVC 4"diameter driver 2-way (150w. max.) mini box speakers, that are wall hung angled down in the corners for the front two, and stand-mounted for the two rear-surround, and a new 15" self-amplified (600 watt max.) sub-woofer. Sensitivity is very similar with my existing speakers, which made it easy to balance.

PROS: Easy installation, grill comes off easily with grill-removal tool, was relatively easy to spray paint after masking off, before mounting. It is a good size compared to my 70" 3D HDTV, might be a little big for smaller TV's. You need to be sure you have enough room between studs when centered with your HDTV, on the wall. Plastic is thick and solid, the dog-ear mounts are well molded, and overall has no vibration when mounted, not cheap. The outer rim around the grill is narrow and looks great.

CONS: Would be great if came in black (as most flat-panel HDTV's are black).

    Great Speaker!

I just installed this speaker as part of my home theater system (along with 2 pairs of 3-way Monoprice speakers as front and rear surrounds). This center channel really enhanced the overall sound stage effect of the system. Voices and other mid-range came through crisp and clear. For the money, this speaker can't be beat. I mounted all speakers in my ceiling as I wanted to minimize the visual impact of the speakers. The finished look is excellent and it has a surprisingly low profile. Obviously, being in-ceiling you need to be extra careful to make sure the grills are secure and some adhesive would be helpful. Mounting was very straightforward and the templates were spot on. However, you need to be extra careful to use the mounting template as I mistakenly used the paint shield template and barely had enough drywall to mount the speaker. Additionally, the design of the dog ear mounting system is a bit different than the 3-way speakers. I would say it is an improvement as the dog ears lock easier and more securely when tightening them down. However, there is not as much clearance range for drywall thickness so I could not use the framing system I had devised for the other speakers. This center channel speaker is lighter than the 3-ways so had I good confidence that attaching them directly to the ceiling drywall was no problem. As other reviewers have noted, I was a bit apprehensive purchasing speakers online, but I can say that this was a great choice and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this speaker again!

    PROS: Super performance
    Compact size
    Excellent appearance
    Great value!

CONS: Some supplied adhesive for the grills for in-ceiling applications would be very helpful.

I have this center channel along with two pairs of the 8" 2-way and one pair of 8" 3-way and was I impressed! They are hooked up to a Denon AVR-1911 receiver and I am hearing sounds in movies I never heard before. When I put in "The Matrix" and watched the Lobby Shoot Out scene I could hear every bullet shell hit the ground. Very very cool. They are suprisingly heavier than I imagined and look absolutely fabulous on my walls and set up could not have been easier. Excellent all around speakers. Don't pass these up, especially if you are considering the comparable Polk in walls.

Sounds great but different from others
Not exactly the same as the micro flanged wall speakers for the L & R. It is a little more square. Most people probably won't notice but it clearly is different. Also, the install is not quite as easy as the L & R speakers

    PROS: Sounds great, looks good

CONS: Install tabs not the latest

    Small but great sound
I was worried that this was not going to sound as great because of the smaller size. It blasts great for my high end home theater. Its size was perfect to fit in between the joists in the wall. the install was a breeze.

PROS: quick and easy to install, great sound, nice quality

CONS: one of the levers that butt up to the sheetrock in the back broke off. Fortunately the other 5 worked fine.

    Doesn't last
The dreaded "out of warranty, out of luck"

PROS: Looks nice and sounded great for the first year.

CONS: After one year it has developed a buzz. I've never ran anything loud enough to cause damage and never changed my setup. It's always been straight out of the center channel on my Yamaha receiver. I will have to get a new one.
