Do these work with the 6.5 inch 3 way, PID 7605?

Monoprice ABS Back Enclosure (Pair) for PID 4103, 6.5in Ceiling Speaker (Will not work for PIDs 4102 or 4104)
BEST ANSWER: These do not fit PID 7605. The speakers are twice the size of the 6.5 can. I learned the hard way.
I have a 7.1 setup now and looking to upgrade to 9.1 or 11.1. Can these speakers be used for front and rear presence speakers in the ceiling or should I use a smaller speaker?
    Stephen B on Feb 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interested in our ceiling speakers. This 3-way speaker will work very well for your presence speakers. The 3-way design will give very good clarity and articulation when the bullets start flying.
Do I need to purchase a mounting kit to install these in the ceiling of a 1-story home?
    Jason J on Mar 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No you don't the speaker has built in brackets that you tighten with a screw driver and locks it in to the Sheetrock. These speakers are large, make sure you have enough space between joists, the hole is about 12" wide. They call these 6.5" speakers but they are a lot bigger than the 8" I have installed in the kitchen. You need about 5-6" up into ceiling as well if your attic space is not open. There is a hook to install a cable to make sure it can't fall but it is very secure mounted through 1/2" Sheetrock.
Can this speaker work as a center channel speaker in the ceiling? Is anyone using it for the center channel/voice application?
    Jamie A on Jun 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would much rather have a left and right channel handling something as important as dialogue. Currently my setup has the 3 way Caliber in wall speakers on either side of the TV as the left and right channels. I used 4 of these Ceiling speakers as the surround channels and it sounds great. I really feel that too much emphasis is put on a centre channel these days. Just my $0.02.
Is there a back cover available for this speaker? Product # 7605
    Google E on May 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I bought two pair of these a few months ago. There were no back enclosures made specifically for this speaker at that time. Be aware they are quite large, 12" diameter mounting hole, plus another inch required for mounting tabs.
Can your inceiling speakers work in a high ceiling living room?

My ceiling is 20 ft. high.
    Faisal S on Feb 15, 2017

My ceiling is angled (30 degrees?) towards the TV, so front speakers are facing away from viewer - Would these be a viable option (tweeter aimed back towards viewer) for Front LR mains AND rear surrounds paired with the adjustable alpha dual center? Wall mounted speakers are not an option. Thank you!

Monoprice Alpha Ceiling Speaker Dual 5.25in Carbon Fiber Surround 2-way Vari-Angled (single)
BEST ANSWER: I have both of those the wall and the ceiling speakers. The ceiling speakers (6.5" PN#7605) should actually work pretty well in your situation. If installed with the tweeter at the top, it would probably face almost straight down. You just have to know these speakers are 13" in diameter, and are larger than they may appear in photos.
Do you connect these with banana plugs or directly connect the wires to the speaker - or can you do either one? I'm using 14 gauge wire if that matters.
    A shopper on Apr 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I used banana plugs but you can directly wire them up. They sound really nice as my rear surround speakers in a 7.1 system. You do have to make a very large hole in your ceiling to accommodate them though. Installation was pretty straight forward once the hole is the correct size, just be careful to not over tighten the screws holding the speaker in place.
I am looking into using a Sonos Connect:AMP to power each pair of speakers. The amp generates 55W per channel (110W total) at 8 ohms. Is this enough power for these speakers? Thanks!
    A shopper on Feb 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes you will be surprised as to what comes out of these speakers. We use them for atmos surrounds but throw them into multi channel stereo and you will be amazed. Very big bang for the buck. Will be buying another pair soon to take us to 11.2
Are these directional? It looks like the speaker is semi directional. I don't usually like in ceiling speakers unless they are the rears. If these are directional then I might consider.
    A shopper on Mar 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: These are somewhat directional. Without measuring exactly, it looks pretty close to 35-40º angled from the ceiling. I was in the same boat as you about only rear speakers being in-ceiling, but I went with these for my front L/R channel and angled the tweeter toward my front wall to get some forward dispersion. You could also do the opposite and aim the tweeters at your seating. Hope this helps.
Can these speakers be installed in the ceiling of a porch? What about a bathroom?
    A shopper on Jan 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I installed these in a restaurant Tivoli Ceil Tile a while back they are pretty light and the mounting tabs are easy to use as long as the porch is sealed you should have no trouble they are rather large for a standard size bathroom and the dust cover may get to wet with condensation..
I have a 5.1 system currently have front speakers hi amped though to simulate atmos. Would these be a good choice as overhead atmos speakers instead of bi amount of front l and r channel? current is 5.1.2
    A shopper on Dec 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These Concentric 3-way speaker would be a great choice for your immersive 5.1.2 overhead speakers. Be sure to check Dolby's speaker set-up guide for recommended placement of these height speakers.
Would it be possible to install these speakers in a drop ceiling or should I be looking for smaller/lighter speakers for such a situation?
    Ryan F on May 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I installed mine in my basement ceiling between joists. Where they have a fair amount of weight to them I would recommend some support if they are installed any distance from ceiling supports or joists. As long as your drop ceiling is built well these speakers will do fine. I would also recommend insulation around the installation spot to keep sound from traveling through the ceiling which may create an echo or less desirable sound. My basement ceiling is insulated which helps keep the sound tight.
    Is the grill magnetic?
    A shopper on Dec 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This speaker has a press fit speaker grill that holds firmly to the speaker. It also has a removal tool that comes with it to remove the grill from the speaker. I have not had problems with these grills. The finish is tight and true.
would this 3 way speaker do better than a 2 way for a center speaker in ceiling?
    A shopper on Dec 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: When a speaker driver only has to deal with a limited range of frequencies, it's more efficient at doing so. In a three way speaker, each driver can be more specially designed to reproduce a narrower band of frequencies. That's how these speakers can cover a greater range (particularly in the lower register) and not lose clarity.
Why is the crossover to the tweeter so high (4.9kHz)? A 5.25” driver begins to beam at ~2500Hz, so a crossover point almost a full octave above that seems odd.
    New User U on May 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Originally, the modelling said 3K as most of our tweeters are. As we rolled the tuning around and listened to what sounded best. This is what we landed on as the ideal tone and function.

Good speakers, and not just "good for the price"
I'm also posting this identical review in the 6816 speaker section...

So I've been building a budget home theater for some time, the idea is to find things clearanced, floor models, or reasonably priced.

I bought a Monoprice Sub and was happy with the quality and sound so after much review, I bought the 6816s as my front and the 7605s for the rear. The 6816 went in the wall flanking my 100 inch screen while the 7605 are 23 feet away mounted in the ceilings. The 6317 is under the screen as my center channel. All are being driven by a Denon 2313 (bought as a 1 month old floor model at Best Buy for $400).

My take? The 6816s sound great. I'm not going to preface it with the "for the money" because a pricetag doesnt qualify my standard of what sounds good and what doesnt.
The room doesnt have alot of furniture or carpet in it yet so the midrange is a bit high but I believe once those items are in and with a bit of tuning the sound will greatly improve. I isololated each set of speakers and made the following observations: The 6816s are perfectly suited for front use, they have the necessary upper and midrange to hear all of the effects and sound good with music. The bass response is good to the point that I had to tighten up a metal stud that they were vibrating in the wall. The 7605'have much more bass to them (could be the ceiling mount, my basement has prefab composite rafters which give alot of airspace above and around the speakers) and may sound better overall. The center channel does well with dialog as it is intended. The sub sounds good and a 2nd with the crossovers set to a different range may really fill in the sound. Overall I'm very happy. I bought a set of Bose AM5 series II 25 years ago that these speakers replaced. My cousin was the manager at Silo and his cost plus 10% on these was $400 and they sold for $900 so that gives you an idea of markup (nearly 300%) on speakers. Cut out a few steps in the distribution line and you can sell a qualitiy product at a good price.

One trick on the install, to remove the grills put the pull wire tool in parallel to the base and pull, dont try pulling from the part of the grill facing you, its hard to remove that way. One quick pull and its out.

    PROS: Really EZ to install
    Good bass response
    Good wire connector setup

CONS: Big and heavy, have the room to needed behind and to the sides.

    Good but nor great
These speakers get loud and are clear but you have to be able to tune them perfectly for your needs. Many said they are too big but if you live in a one story house they shoudld fit fine in the celing. While they are larger in size, the design is excellent and well thought out. Some said you could use these as a center channel speaker which i did. It is not great for a center channel speaker for ordinary daily watching. If the front channel speakers are playing background noise it is hard to hear dialog of from the center channel speaker because it becomes distorted. I would suggest getting a different speaker for a center channel that is wall mounted rather than inceiling mounted. I did not have that option as i had to mount all my speakers in the ceiling. Over all they are great speakers and for the price you will not find better.

    PROS: Loud and Clear
    January 29, 2013
    A lot of sound
I purchased these speakers for a buddy who was looking for something in-ceiling, affordable, and able to hit a broad frequency range. These speakers did not let me down! The sound was very clean and room filling. The additional driver helped to fill out the bottom end without sounding like they are trying to be a larger size. The speakers are being used as stereo sound only in this case, but i wouldn't hesitate to use them in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. The size of these speakers are very impressive. It is the only drawback i have about them as well, being that it was difficult to find desired placement due to the fact that there isn't much room to play with when mounting in between 16" on center studs.

    PROS: Good Bass
    Clear Voice Reproduction
    Great Quality Speakers
    Clean and Impressive Appearance

CONS: A little tough to mount speakers in desired locations

    Impressed
Quite remarkable package. I am running a 9.2 system through a Marantz 7008 utilizing this speaker throughout with two in-ceiling 10 inch subs. I was precise in their positioning, utilizing a compass to set up my angles for each speaker. Combining that with the receiver's Audyssey program, I am impressed. I have one major complaint, and that is the speaker grill which SUCCKKKS getting on and off. It is so tight, that the last tab would not fit into the rim. Pressing too hard runs the risk of denting the cover. If you want to improve this product, Please follow Dayton's lead with a magnetic covers.

My technique involved a metal spatula to pressure that last tab into the rim, and then placing a large board over the entire speaker cover and giving it a firm TAP with my fist. The board displaces the energy over the entire cover and eliminates potential point dents in the cover, and seals it in place. Good luck getting the cover off, as it will bend the keys sent by Monoprice.

With all that said, I like the speakers. I own in ceiling speakers by Micca and Dayton. They are all rimless which is the look I like and why I chose them. I think these sound the best, and the price point is excellent. Theyare big boys, and require a 12 inch diameter hole, so make sure you are precise in centering your circular cut between ceiling joists.

    PROS: Sound
    Price point

    CONS: The cover
Size can limit some installation areas

    UK Installation
    5/5

PROS: Great sounding, Meat Beat Big and Bouncy - a very good performance at the price point

CONS: Grill could be easier to install, Costomer service for a UK customer was not great
    October 10, 2011
    Much bigger than expected
Had ordered these as rear surrounds to compliment the 6 1/2 inch dual woofer in wall speakers. Had read other reviews that they were snug in a 16 on center ceiling joist, but thought that I would be okay. After getting them, noticed that they were VERY large and got kind of worried since I was planning on installing these in the ceiling near a wall which was at the exterior end of my house. After getting in the attic and realizing I did not have enough room for them, I ordered the round 5 1/4 kevlar speakers to handle my surround duties.

I re-purposed these in another room as zone 2 (from the reciever, Denon AVR-1912) and couldnt be happier.

Great speaker, just make sure they'll fit where youre trying to put em!!!

PROS: Sound great, easily compare sound to speakers 10x the price.

CONS: Be aware where you plan to mount these, they are HUGE!
    December 8, 2011
    Great speakers.
Please consider supplying your speakers with mounting system your subwofers come with. Nice metal frame to fit in the opening, long sturdy screws make the installation a breeze instead of gym workout.

PROS: Great sound, beautiful micro-flange, good price

CONS: Well, the first thing you'll see is the size. How for the love og God are these 6 1/2" speakers. They are 12" speakers, so make sure they' will fit in place before you buy.

Next thing is.... The clamps. My ceiling is plastered with two layers of gypsum board each 3/4" thick. There was no way the clamps could have accomodated. I had to turn them upside down, that got me some clearence.

But since I unscrew the screws and then installed the speakers to make sure they fit, then took them down and finaly tried to install them for the last time, the screws ate up the plastic in the clamps got loose an were not engaging the clamps anymore. Ohhh was that the pain! Literally. It felt like I was lifting 100lb after some time.

Well, it is installed now, so all is good.
    April 30, 2015
    Awesome
I mounted these as surround speakers in the ceiling of my great room. They sound great. I was surprised how easy they were to mount. The flange covers a lot more than you would expect. It is only supper small on the front. the back side mounting whole is actually much smaller than the total diameter. This means your cutout circle's don't need to be exact. Very easy to mount and get a clean looking install.

PROS: Great sound, much easier to install than expected.

CONS: Price, they are a lot more expensive than the 7604s for the same drivers.
    September 3, 2013
    13" speaker. NOT 6-1/2"
Totally my fault as I didn't read the overall/cut size but this thing is over 13". I read that they are big but I thought it was just the depth in question. Never even took them completely out of the box so I can't vouch for the quality. Just make sure you have the room side to side and you don't mind a 13" speaker over your head. In my opinion, they look ridiculous.

CONS: HUGE!! Not sure how MonoPrice considers these 6-1/2" speakers.
    September 17, 2014
    Great sounding and great quality
Very impressive speakers. I did build a box for my ceiling first. I did dimensions of 2.5'X1.5'X.5' totaling 1.875 cubic feet. I truly feel it made them sound more clear and smoother base. Only cons I have are the speakers are heavy while installing and those speaker grills are very tough to install. A few tips, look into the channels before you put the grill in there seem to be small metal nipples to help hold the grills at the flared out points and be sure to tighten and loosen the metal screws in and out of the screw sets first to make them tighten easier when installing. Do not use a drill!
