speaker backs / Speaker boxes for the 7604's these are going in the ceiling and I wanted to know some specs: I need two numbers from the specifications of the woofer. The Q (or, Qts) and the V(as) ratings. The V(as) is usually measured in Cubic feet. So I can build some boxes to "hopefully get a flat response speaker" . Since this is a 3 way speaker perhaps someone can give me the total volume for these?

I have a 7.1 surround amp but only have adequate space for a 5.1 set-up. My amp is capable of bi-amp. I’m looking at trying to free up floor space by moving to in wall speakers. Can I bi-amp or modify for bi-amp? Any suggestions or recommendations for doing this?

BEST ANSWER: It would be possible to do that and bypass the crossover network with some custom wiring/modifications, yes. Figuring out where you'd cross over would probably just be a trial and error process. These speakers sound really good so you might want to try them in full range first.
Has anyone used this as a horizontal center? I don't like the lobing problems associated with standard horizontal mid-tweeter-mid designs and thought this might perform a bit better due to concentric tweeter/mid alignment.

BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interest in this product. I think that is a great idea. Please follow up with your results. In theory I think you are on to something. I may take that into consideration when I plan my next series of speakers.

    I Was Totally Sceptical!
Like I said in the title, I was skeptical! I thought great sound only came from name brand speakers that cost as much as your house. I have always liked high end audio and home theater, but couldn't afford it. I have an Onkyo receiver that pushes 100 watts and these speakers eat the wattage for lunch! I dug out Peter Gabriel CD and pushed them hard. No distortion at all. I could hear details in the music only heard on headphones. I just ordered the MTV Unplugged version of Alice in Chains DVD concert in 5.1. I can't wait!
If I changed anything I might have done the 8" 3 way speakers. I knew I was going to add a 12" sub woofer, so I didn't care to much about bass. My musical style is definitely eclectic, I like everything from 70's, 80's, 00, and Now. I even like dub step like Skrillex and Bassnectar.
With a 12" sub (BIC), my neighbor called and asked if that was my new system. They are 25' away from my house and it wasn't cranked up all the way.
I what I paid for entire speaker system, I couldn't have bought one of the speakers that I wanted to get, but I really don't think I am missing out on anything. Thank you Monoprice!!! I have saved hundreds of dollars believing in these and all the reviews! Lifetime customer for sure!

PROS: Sound amazing for a lot of speakers costing much, much more!
    Easy to install
    Shipping was fast from Monoprice
Wide range of sound these put out
Excellent bass response (they still should be paired with a sub)
    They don't feel cheap
Mixed this with the center channel speaker in 5 1/4" with the micro edge and it blends perfectly, I don't notice any color difference.

CONS: Cutting your drywall (permanent installation) for me it was no problem.
It took a about four hours to install (5), but wasn't hard at all.
Not a con, but they need a back piece of drywall to tighten the sound. Mine installed on a wall that was under a stairway. Contractors didn't finish since nobody would see it. I was impressed by the sound, until I dry walled the back of the speakers. They came to life.

    Love These
I used 3 of these as my front channels in a 5.1 setup with 7605s for surrounds. Very happy with them. They installed pretty easy, and sound great.

I mounted them all vertically and upside down in a row all ligned up a long the top edge of the TV. This worked great. Have great sound, and the higher frequency content is now closer to the TV.

    PROS: Great sound. Easy install

    CONS: not sold individually.

    Great speakers!
Installation was easy, speakers worked like charm right the first time, deliver a lot of air movement producing clear sound. Highly recommended.

PROS: Excellent sound, quality product, easy installation, beautiful micro-flange.

CONS: Regretfully they do not sell these separate, I would have purchased one extra and use it as center.

We need more power! I'm giving her all she's got, Captain!
These speakers are a delight, they have ample sound and are incredible when paired with a proper sub. They are power hungry, and if you're giving her all you've got, that may not be enough.

I'm powering these with 80 watts per channel Yamaha RX-V1200 receiver. And let me tell you, it's just enough. If you are questioning the output of your amp, then the answer is probably no. But if you have the watts, these speakers are sure to please. I have mine backed against the soft side of roll in insulation. I don't know for certain if that is helping the bass response, but it seems to work in car stereo with subwoofers, so why not here. I also figure on getting a newer amp in a few years with HDMI inputs, so the wattage will go up as well.

Speakers are subjective, but they can also sound flat, tinny, or missing in frequency range. These speakers will only sound flat if you don't provide the wattage. Otherwise, they exhibit none of the other traits mentioned. I've been running some tests with music that I am very familiar with and they are very crisp without being overly bright. I have them paired with a 6317 center channel and the overall sound is full and pleasant. I also have these speakers paired with a proper sub... a Klipsch 12" reference series. I'd recommend these speakers if A. you have the wattage, and B. you have a real subwoofer.

I feed my music (AAC high bitrate) via wifi to my Airport, then run a fiber optic to the Yamaha. Then 12-14 awg speaker wire to the terminals.

    PROS: Full range of sound
Look great with the micro-bevel (highly recommended)

    CONS: Power hungry

    New Construction Products
This speaker as well as all of the other Monoprice speakers are oriented towards existing construction. During new construction if you provide an installation bracket to the contractor and the wiring specs everything can be dealt with in the natural building process. If you have a preferred location they can make sure that framing does not interfere. When they are finished you'll have nicely finished speaker holes with a coil of speaker wire secured inside. All you have to do is attach the speaker wires, install the speaker inside the frame and you are done. The use of these brackets is common in many low voltage devices and high end builders are accustomed to accommodating such devices with little additional cost.

The alternative to the use of installation brackets is not pretty when using a contractor and can be a nightmare if the home owner is not vigilant. If you want specific install locations you may find interfering framing, plumbing or static inducing power cables. The contractor will probably allow you to run the speaker wires but will take no responsibility if a wire gets cut or moved. Sometimes a well intending electrician will hammer wire staples to secure the install loop that are very difficult to remove inside the wall.

What I'm suggesting is that the availability of install brackets that attach to framing (new work in electrical parlance) the installation of Monoprice speakers can inexpensively be included in the flow of typical building processes. The time has passed when the installation of 5.1 speaker systems were the exclusive domain of hobbyists or high end AV specialists. The cost to produce these brackets is low and I expect many would gladly purchase them. For myself I make plywood brackets when the manufacturer doesn't but I don't enjoy it and there are times when schedules are tight I'll choose a suboptimal speaker if there is an available install bracket.

    PROS: Fine for existing construction

CONS: Not so good for new construction

    Awesome in-walls
I never write reviews, but these in-walls sound so great (even without price consideration) that I want to give Monoprice 2 thumbs up. I bought 3 pairs (1 pair for front L/R, 1 pair for surround L/R, and 1 center channel - with one left over unused) and set up them. Installation is easy (except for fishing the wire through the attic), and I painted them to match the wall color. I also added an old Definitive Technology subwoofer I had sitting around to the whole system.

Fired the system up (running it with a $200 Sony receiver - nothing fancy) last weekend, and I was impressed. The sound is much richer than the size would suggest, and even without the sub, the bass is not bad. Highly recommend

PROS: Great sound, regardless of price. Considering price, it is unbeatable.

CONS: Have to buy a pair at a time, so for things like center channel, you end up having an extra one.

    5/5
Bought these to replace my current on wall front speakers. The sound is much crisper than the old on wall set. Would by them again no questions.
    February 17, 2014
    Love them!
    5/5

PROS: After reading reviews form over 3 years, I thought what could I lose! Very well made product and the sound is wonderful. I have had Polk and Boston Acoustics before. These sound very comparable to my $300 a pair Polks. I will be buying another set for the front once I finalize the media center. Can't lose with these.

    Great speakers!
Love them. They sound great. I'm really happy I read reviews and looked at the specs before buying. These were exactly what I wanted. I bought 2 pair to use in a custom built in entertainment center.

PROS: Perfect. They sound and look great!

CONS: I wish they sold these as a single speaker instead of in pairs. Now I'm stuck when an extra speaker and trying to sell it on eBay or Craigslist.
