When this product was installed for me the tech threw out the tool needed to remove the grill from the wall and the instruction sheet. Is it possible to get those replaced?
    Andrew D on Apr 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: a thin paper clip will suffice, just give the end a 90deg. bend at the very end to grab the grill.
Should the dust screens be removed (discarded) or do the stay under the grill after installation?
    New User U on Jan 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: i left the foam insert in the speaker behind the grill. the foam will help keep any high pitched sounds from sounding harsh or ringing. this is not a very noticeable thing, but since it doesn't attenuate the volume or change the timbre i find it easy to just leave it in. plus, it help give a flat look (not able to see the speakers through the grill) and helps the speaker blend in to the wall better.
Would the sound be effected if this unit was installed vertically?
    New User U on Jan 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I was in this situation as well as the framing in the wall wouldn't accommodate this speaker horizontally. After doing a bunch of research and finding theories that supported it either way I decided to modify the studs to allow for horizontal installation. It boiled down to appearance for me. I just didn't want the center channel vertical. But if you are not able to make modifications to the studs or whatever is in your way rest assured there are plenty of people out there supporting the idea that you can mount vertically with no adverse effect on the sound or projection of the speaker.
Is there a back enclosure available for this? The round ones have enclosures available. I don't want my insulation to catch on fire.
    New User U on Sep 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in this in wall speaker. We do not carry back boxes for our in-wall speaker yet. I understand your concern however it is very unlikely you will generate enough heat from a speaker level signal to cause a fire.
Can you mount this as a center in-ceiling speaker instead of on the wall?
    Nicholas P on Sep 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not. It mounts to the drywall like any other in wall/ ceiling speaker. But they do have some very nice ceiling speakers that look and work fantastically. With the round ceiling speakers you can also buy enclosers for insulation protection, and sound deadening for floor above. I would recommend going that rout.
Can this speaker be mounted vertically?
    Brian S on Sep 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I mounted it veritcal because it would not fit in the normal stud space horizontal. It still looks good and sounds great.
How many ohms is this speaker? People keep saying it is four but it says 8ohms in the description. Re is 14.8?!!
    Jeffrey H on Jun 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The center channel speaker is wired to 8Ω.
Hello, could someone please clarify the specs on this 4881 in wall center channel speaker? The description states that it is 76Hz-20kHz pivoting tweeter and the Full Specs state that it is 60Hz-20kHz and no mention of the movable tweeter. Thanks
    A shopper on Jan 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: this speakers will run down to 60Hz at -10db, it is rated at 76Hz at -3db.

    4 Ohms and too wide
This speaker is rated at 4ohms and is too wide (16.25") to fit between standard wall studs (14.5" on 16" centers).

Your typical a/v receiver runs at 8ohms, so this speaker could potentially draw too much power from your receiver and blow the amplifier. It's important to match your Ohm/watt ratings, so know your specs.

The "Micro-flanged" center speaker (#4930) is rated at 8ohms/80W max and is only 13 3/5" wide (fitting between standard wall studs) and is a better choice for most systems.

    Large Speaker
I did my entire home theater with Monoprice in-wall speakers. The audio quality from these speakers are great. Much better than the little ones that came with my Yamaha 5.1 receiver / system in a box. The speaker how ever has one major problem they are 16 1/4 x 7 3/8 for in wall mounting. Code in the united states for exterior walls is 16 on center. You all can see where this is going, plus all the old construction use to require metal cross support every 16 inches for certain types of construction. The speakers flat out will not fit. I mounted vertically since I was not going to rip down the wall and move the studs or window frame the whole thing.

This is the first time I am upset with a monoprice product. We do not control our walls and anyone mounting this speaker where the framers miss measured and shot the studs a half inch closer is screwed. These speakers need to be 15 1/2 across there is space it can be done 18 on center may be in a lot of new construction but most people buying this product are installing in older construction. Change this product Monoprice. Or create one for old construction and one for new construction

Wont fit between studs on 16 centers. Get the microflange version of this instead.
    January 13, 2009
If you do buy these, the method of cutting off the 4 posts from both ends and mounting directly to the studs is the best option. It's fairly easy and you don't have to reduce the structural nature of the wall it's mounted on by chopping out studs. It still looks the same from the front.
But if you don't want to go through the hassle, then probably getting the micro-flanged center channel (product id 6317) is probably an easier choice.

PROS: Excellent sounding speakers at an amazing price

CONS: Like others, the installation of these is an issue. Some have said to disregard that and rate it only based on the sound quality. However, with these marketed as in-wall speakers and the fact that they don't fit in-wall between standard studs, then it is indeed an issue.

I have to agree with a former post, you have to know what you are buying before you order based on a pretty picture.

I read the reviews, and read the comments about the speaker not fitting between the studs in a "16 on center" home. I also read the comment that you can cut the side posts off and install the speaker without a problem.

I went ahead and purchased the speaker. I removed the screws within the posts and cut them off with a dremel. Then I cut the required hole in the drywall. I trimmed the drywall past the studs without damaging the studs. The speaker installed easily after that. The speaker sounds great and exceeds my expectations! (esp. given the price).

The only negative, is that with such a tight fit, if your studs aren't centered to the room, then your center speaker may not be perfectly centered with your screen. Mine is off by less than a speaker width. However, the stud placement in the wall will most likely be out of your control unless you are building the room from scratch... but then this wouldn't be a problem if you can put the studs wherever you like...

Great speaker, great price, simple modification to get it to fit.

My wife and I had purchased a house two years ago that had a unfinished basement. I built the basement with the intentions of building the utlimate man cave. I installed two front, two ceiling, two back and the center channel speaker to a 7.1 Sony reciever. Before playing any movies I tested them to see how much power they can handle by cranking up the tunes. I had the reciever only have way up and the speakers sounded great, so I decided to crank them up a little more and they were able to handle the power with very little disortion. Finally I decided to see what movies would sound like and I was BLOWN AWAY!! The clarity was amazing!! Giving my basement the home theater sound I was looking for. Before purchasing these speakers I was going to purchase a set of JBL in wall speakers and I'm so glad I didn't. The JBL speakers were 3 times more expensive!!. I'm 100% pleased with these speakers and would recommend them to anyone looking for great sounding in wall speakers at a amazing price.

    PROS: Too many to list!

    CONS: None........

Bought and installed these for my parents to complement their new Samsung 70" TV that sits only 3/4" off the wall. intall was no problem after cuttig out a section of stud. The one I ordered was 8 Ohm and I am baffled why monoprice was switched these to 4 Ohm. Most modern 5.1 and 7.1 channel amps are designed to operate with 6 Ohm - 8 Ohm speakers. Running a 4Ohm center channel risks damaging your equipment. Please switch back to an 8Ohm design so I can reccomend these to friends.

    PROS: Great Sound

CONS: Why the change to 4 Ohm?

Installing between 16 inch wall studs
If you dont mind modifying your speaker, it will fit between 16 inch wall studs by cutting off the far left and right mounting posts then screwing the speaker down directly into the wall stud using the stock screws and mounting location. Be sure to remove the screws before you cut the speakers mounting posts. Also pre-drill the wall studs once you get the speaker fitted to ease the screw installation.

Ive done this with my main in wall speakers to get them mounted where I needed and it worked out great.

    center channel speaker
The biggest issue with these speakers was removing a section of stud wall. Fortunately my wall is not load bearing so it was not a big deal to cut out a section of stud to center the speaker in the space. Easy installation, but do be careful not to over tighten, I snapped one of the plastic retaining clips and had to super glue it and reinstall. Otherwise a great product.

PROS: The price of the product and the quality. Easy installation

CONS: Not as much bass as I would have expected, but that is why I have a 12" powered sub.
