I'm rating it based on price and functionality. It's a decent mount but does have it's problems. It's stamped out of thin sheet metal , so it flexes a bit (feels solid once bolted down). My only real issue is that the pull string clips feel loose (doesn't provide confidence that they will hold onto the bracket if someone pulls on it at all.
At first I was a bit worried by other reviewers who said they had trouble with the philips-head screws, but I just made sure to use the right size bit and had no issues whatsoever - very easy and secure installation.
I had previously bought a similarly-priced unit from Best Buy, but the release tabs for the bottom rail were plastic and broke during installation so I returned it. I was very impressed with the materials of construction of this mount - no plastic parts, all metal. This is a solid, quality mount at an extremely reasonable price.
PROS: Sturdy construction, slim profile, easy to install, super low price compared to others of same quality.
I bought two mounts after my wife and I bought our home. I have a 46" Samsung 1080p from 2010 that's still top-notch when it comes to picture quality. The included bolts fit just fine sans being stripped. But my other TV, a mid-tier Vizio, oh no, NONE of the screws fit and I had to RMA it. Also, like I said before, the screws are cheap, too. While I'm satisfied with the mount with my Samsung, I should've done a little more research.
Cheap doesn't always mean bang-for-your-buck, folks.
PROS: Cheap. Sturdier than it looks when mounted properly. Was able to properly mount one of my TVs.
CONS: First, not all its screws fit modern TVs, do your research. I just assumed they'd fit. Second, the screws are cheap. I ruined ALL the screws that fit due to the drilling I NORMALLY do when I screw screws into my walls. I had to go to Lowe's and find higher-quality screws of the same size.
Not a good choice. The mechanism to lock the arms in the frame does not fit and needed "creativity" to make it fit
PROS: Small profile
CONS: Hard to install because the little ends of the arms that go in the TV, that have to fit in the back of the frame that is installed in the wall (4th picture in the the description) do not fit. We had to dismount the TV like 3 times and make some forces in the frame to make it fit. I have installed several TV mounts before (that's my business) and it is the first time this happens to me. A job that is to perform in no more than 15 minutes took me about 40 minutes
I was amazed to find this mount for the price that I did when everything at Wal-Mart and Target were close to $100. I was excited to get my TV on the wall when this came in. Little did I know what an uphill battle I had in front of me.
The first, and biggest problem, was that the wall bracket is only made for 16" studs. Mine are 24"... Problem. I know this is partially my fault, I should have checked the product specs more carefully. But the only way to tell is the width of the bracket. A slightly more prominent note in the description would have been appreciated.
Thankfully, the previous home owners had a left a wall plate that, by some miracle, worked with the TV bracket of this mount. This is the point where I started realized the issues with the hardware. Every screw on this thing is phillips head, from the tilt locking screws to the hardware to actually bolt the TV to the thing. I felt like I was getting more screw slippage than actual tightening. I really would have preferred torx, or at least hex when tightening something like this where I want to ensure everything is locked down. I'm still terrified my TV is just going to start tilting on its own.
At the end of the day, sure, my TV is fairly secure on the wall, but I was not all that satisfied with the quality of the mount. As many of the other reviewers have said, it's jus not quite what I expect from monoprice.
PROS: Simple enough design. Price was nice.
CONS: Doesn't fit 24" studs. Phillips head screws for days.
Well, it's a day I never thought would come. I received my first TV mount that didn't have Monoprice quality. I have been a long time customer and supporter of Monoprice, have received numerous mounts and products in the past, and my customers have also been very pleased. However, this item10486 just isn't up to par. This is the first mount from Monoprice that I have received that actually "twists" in my hands when holding the ends of it. For a 400 x 400 VESA mount, it seems about half the gauge steel of other smaller VESA mounts (reference smaller mount 3003). I was in a time crunch at a customer site and had to use the mount, but I don't know if I can sleep good knowing it is on the wall and is twisting away, holding a 47lb TV. Mount is rated at 88lbs. Again, this one would be fine if the steel on this mount was of comparable quality to other mounts, specifically the 3003s.
Monoprice did offer to accept the item as a return, but didn't offer to send me an advance replacement (I had to use the mount at a customer site and, once on the wall, didn't want to mess with it by removing it, leave the TV on the ground while waiting for Monoprice to send a replacement).
PROS: Size was exactly what I was looking for. Mount was just a hair wider that the 400 x 400 width, max size of mount, and size of my 47lb TV.
CONS: Very thin steel. As outlined below (and as some of you may know from previous Monoprice mounts), the steel used is usually heavy-gauge and won't twist in your hands. This one twists and makes it hard to attach the lower locks by pulling the tabs as the mount twists, pulls out from the top of the bracket, making the bottom of the mount closer to the wall and harder to lock in.
I've been buying from Monoprice for my company for about 5 years and this is the first time I've had an issue with one of their products. The wall bracket is lightweight and feels somewhat flimsy. However, so far it seems to be holding up my Samsung 55 LED tv well (but I have my hesitations). In regards, to the TV mount brackets one of them were nonfunctional. It seems like the black paint was not letting the spring loaded release to move in the channel. This was an easy fix by dissembling the part and filing down the black paint to allow the release to move. Overall the product does work but I'm not completely satisfied with the purchase.
