Overall I am satisfied with this mount, but it did need a bit of work before I could complete the installation. Namely, I had to pretty much completely disassemble the mount and tighten all the internal concealed fasteners to remove a lot of the slop in the various joints. This includes the 360 degree rotational joint post and both of the 180 degree hinges, all needed to be adjusted. Fortunately, removing the various plastic end caps, nylock nuts, phillips screws and snap rings needed to make the adjustments is not difficult. Note that this is in addition to the documented adjustment of the ball retention ring.
One thing to be careful of, there are some tiny clear 'rubber band like' pieces that are part of the arm assembly that goes inside the wall bracket, make sure not to knock these off as they are not easy to find after you've dropped them - especially if you didn't even realize they were there, or could come off...
PROS: Generally well designed, a fairly solid bracket assembly once it is adjusted
CONS: Not ready to go out of the box, needed to be disassembled and tightened before installation
bad design concept for arm-to-wall connection, poor build quality
This mount is the only terrible item that I have ever received from Monoprice. Long story short: don't buy this item. Continue reading if you need more info...
The build quality is poor the mount wobbles at the wall bracket and at the VESA connection. There is no way to stop the wobble at the wall due to the way the arm attaches to the bracket it hangs in place and the monitor + arm acts as a downward lever to hold the arm inside the bracket. It's a neat concept, but in reality, when the monitor is adjusted the whole setup wobbles the up and down wobble when adjusting the tilt is comically bad, If the arm were actually mounted to the wall bracket with bolts or some other fastener, this wouldn't be an issue.
Also, the wall bracket looks like the mount allows for some vertical adjustment this is not actually possible. There is a small metal flange that holds the arm in place, which means that the arm can only be installed in one position.
The swivel joints are held tight with hex nuts on flat washers. This just doesn't work because the "swiveling" motion loosens the nuts and the whole thing becomes very sensitive and BONUS the swivel joints become wobbly when this happens. When you try to tighten the hex nut, the threading on the shaft comes off. I did this with a handheld nut driver, and I am not particularly musclebound. I was able to fix the VESA mount's wobble I had to disassemble the swivel joint nearest the monitor and install a second washer (using my own lock washer) onto the back of the monitor mount to prevent the mount from wobbling inside the pivot joint. This could be solved through better manufacturing techniques or patched up using my lock washer approach.
PROS: it's decent looking, and has good cable management
CONS: everything else build quality, loose joints, uneven threads in VESA to arm connection, shaky,
I received this TV mount yesterday. The bolt in the elbow sheared right off in my hand just as I was getting ready to slide it onto the wall mounted bracket. Luckily the TV was not attached at that point. Since this TV mount is located in my daughter's playroom, we are really lucky it didn't break apart later on. I went to the hardware store and bought a $1 3" steel bolt to replace the hinge with and after fixing the issue myself and finally mounting the TV correctly with a nice tight, the TV sags downward a bit. This is not a heavy tv. In fact it is just a 20" Sony. I would not recommend using this mount for anything over this size and be sure to test the bolts thoroughly before hand. I feel a bit better about the mount now that I have a good bolt in place, but I will be shopping around for a better product later on today.
PROS: The backplate / wall bracket seems to be very sturdy when mounted correctly into a wall stud. The wood screw phillips heads didn't strip away like some cheaper screws would do when turning them. It has not killed anyone (yet). It was ~$20.
CONS: There are plastic clips holding the arm into the slot for the wall bracket that don't appear to be very good quality. The arm's elbow bolts may shear off before you even use it. The plastic cap on top of the wall bracket doesn't fit if you run the cables up through the framework. The arm bows slightly once the TV is mounted with a small tv.
The mount is rated to hold 15kg. I mounted a TV that is listed at 10kg with its stand ( which I removed). The mount immediately started to bend at the hinges. I took it down right away for fear that my tv would come crashing down. This would be ok for on of the very light 22" tvs, not for anything even approaching its rated weight capacity. Monoprice sells better mounts than this.
I bought this for our camper because the tv had to be mounted close to the ceiling I had to have a mount that tilted enough for the view to be good sitting on the couch. This is a great mount for the money and also my second purchase. I bought one also for my computer screen in my office. Got the screen off of the desk and onto the wall.
PROS: Excellant price for what it is Adjustable in every way Well constructed
I used this to mount my 22" Samsung TV in front of a treadmill and it works great. Have mounted it twice because we moved the treadmill and times it was an easy installation. We are able to adjust the TV by sliding the wall bracket up or down depending who is using the treadmill. Be aware to install the small L bracket that prevents the arm from sliding out the bottom of the wall bracket.
PROS: Nice looking, Easy to mount, Provides a good range of motion. Great quality
CONS: The plastic cable wraps don't work well for thick cables.
