I wish I knew about Monoprice.com when we put together our twin LCD projection system at St. Mary's Church. The original vendor offered a VGA wall plate with a terminal block on the inside, requiring someone with the know-how and tools to hand-wire the internal wiring. Do YOU know the pin-outs on a VGA cable? Neither do I.
We opted for a pass-through cable that could be pushed into the wall and out of the way between Masses, but after two cables failed due to abuse, we turned to Monoprice.com for the answer.
And here it is: nothing more than a female-to-female VGA gender changer mounted on a plastic backbone that fits a standard electrical wall box. Oh, and a cover plate. Nothing else to buy. As Wile E. Coyote put it: "Genius, that's what it is. Sheer genius!"
I ordered the wall plate along with an in-wall replacement cable and a half-dozen monitor cables for our projectionists. The installation took mere minutes and the result is a neat professional looking connection.
PROS: Simple design, easy installation, standardized shape and size.
The products I get from Monoprice are always as expected. The service is exceptional! The times I have had to call someone they have always been extra nice and helpful. Delivery is a quick and painless process too!
CONS: The old plate had some sort of insulation plate and it was slightly different in size the one I got from Monoprice - who knew as the Monoprice offering is a standard size! In any case it did the job nicely
Screws that come with these units are NOT 6-32 standard thread and are just a bit smaller. I installed over 30 of them and only maybe 5% held. I purchased all new 6-32 screws and solved the issue. The unit is somewhat flimsy also after install so would be a recommendation to beef up the plastic around the mounting holes. Cannot beat the price no where and all these small mods still made the units 1/2 the price of others.
CONS: Screws that are shipped with plates are NOT standard 6-32 screws and plate is a bit flimsy after install.
