The connectors are different for the subs on the 7.2 faceplate, what kind of wire and connector do i need to run to the sub woofer?
    A shopper on Mar 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The sub connectors are for a coaxial cable (the same as what cable TV runs through). So it screws on to the back, and on the front it's a normal RCA connection. I used this in our basement reno and it's great. In my sub location I put a single port plate on the wall with regular screw-on coax connector on the back, and the RCA connection on the front for the sub.

PROS: Looks like it would work fine for bare speaker wire, but if you're planning on using banana clips, this will not work.

CONS: Doesn't work with monoprice banana clips. Connection is terribly loose.

Useful Plate in only 2 gang
Most 5.1 are 2 gang and 7.1 up are 3 gang. If you need to fit 7.1 into 2 gang, this is the only plate I could find.

    PROS: 7.2
Fits a lot of connections into 2 gang
    Looks clean

CONS: Because it fits a lot of connections into 2 spaces the connections on the back are tight.
It can't be helped, but making the connections are a little more difficult and a comparable 5.1.

Does what I need it to do
This plate was the perfect solution for me. The only down side, as some else has mentioned is that some of the connectors are a little loose in the plate. In my case, this means that, when banana plugs are used, the plugs can end up touching one another and shorting out. If Monoprice sold banana plugs with plastic or rubber sleeves, this wouldn't be a problem because the plugs would be insulated from one another. But, they only sell fully conductive banana plugs. So, this is an issue if you buy everything from Monoprice. I solved it by wrapping two of the banana plugs with electrical tape.

The second issue is the fact that the back of the subwoofer RCA jacks are f-connectors. This would be a great idea if Monoprice sold a corresponding keystone or wall plate with an f-connector on the back and RCA on the front. But, they don't. I don't know why they don't. The component needed to do so clearly exists, because it is installed in this wall plate. Instead, you need to use a plate with an f-connector on both sides and then use an F Female to RCA Male adapter on the cable. It works. But it's an inconsistent setup.

PROS: allows for a clean connection to 7 speakers and 2 subs

CONS: loose connectors means that surround speaker banana plugs short out.

I have bought basically everything for my home theater build from monoprice, from inwall speaker wire to in wall audio coaxial cables, speaker plates, and even the dvd repair kit. The quality is great. Their customer service is top notch as well . One word of advise would be to read the reviews and make sure you're getting the right product especially if you live far away before you purchase. They were very willing to give me a refund on this purchase, but the shipping was up to me and it was not worth it. Despite the disagreement over this and only this item, I would still buy from them again, just a little more carefully next time.

    PROS: Great quality.

CONS: If you want the cleaner look with the 2801 banana plugs, don't buy this, get the 8.2 wall plate and leave the couple extra channels unused. These bindings are loose unless the springs are loaded up, causing a poor connection.

PROS: high quality. great price. once installed looks very clean (like a professional installation)

    Solid product

PROS: This is a great plate at a great price. Much cheaper than local stores. The termials are sping based, so might not be a strong as a screw type. HOwever, the springs are strong and I have not had any connection problems. It was easy to wire and install.

    CONS: none.
