BEST ANSWER: I have used both. and honestly they sound very similar except that the 7607 speakers have a bit more midrange (if you like that)
Can these speakers be used in the ceiling?
    Craig H on Nov 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Technically they can. You will probably need to fabricate extra braces so your ceiling does not sag over time.

Very Impressed - Well Played Monoprice
First - I rarely write reviews. I only write reviews when I really like/dislike something. These, I really like. I would have docked a point for the wall mount brackets, which with anything beyond a small amount of torque, will strip and the screws will spin. That said, after stripping the first 2 screws, I got a sense for the torque required, and they all went it fine thereafter (though not confidence inspiring). Nonetheless, I simply cannot dock a point given the amazing sound quality and incredible value. Seriously. I have owned a ton of speakers in my day. One might call me an audiophile (or technophile). I have my own computer based music studio. I've been around music and musicians my entire life. I have owned everything - From Bose/Energy/MTX to Mackie (Studio Reference Monitors)/Paradigm Studio Series. In fact, I had my Paradigm Studio 20s in my bedroom (where I put these Monoprice speakers in a 5.1 setup). Frankly, I was preparing myself to be seriously disappointed. Well, guess what? I wasn't. In fact, I was very surprised. They sound great. So much so, that I regret the set of on-wall KEFs I bought last week for my living room (due to WAF - Wife Acceptance Factor). Anyway, Monoprice deserves a lot of credit for these. I just hope all of these great reviews don't go to their heads, and they end up jacking the prices (At least not until I get my 5.1 in-wall setup for my gym and my living room - to replace the KEFs).

PROS: Excellent sound quality for in-wall speakers. Great mid-range. Pleasant/clear upper range (without sounding fatiguing). Unreal value.

CONS: Wall mount brackets aren't as nice as some other in-walls I have had.

    Very Happy
I bought these for in-wall fronts and rears, hooked up to Denon 1913 reveiver. They sound great. I learned a few things on the install that might benefit others...

I found that by turning the mounting screws into the plastic ears that mount the speakers in the wall, prior to installation, made for a smoother install. I would hold the ear in my hand, turn the screw in a few turns and then back it out before I placed it in the wall. This made for a much smoother install. Also, I was able to paint the grills to match my wall with a sponge. I cut interior latex with a little bit of water to thin it out, then I used a drywall sponge to dab on the paint. I was able to paint four grills in ten minutes without clogging up any of the holes. Worked like a charm...Hope this helps...

    PROS: Great Value
    High Quality

    CONS: None

I use these as my L&R Surround and L&R Rear channel speakers, I'm very pleased with the sound quality. Much better than the bookshelf speakers they replaced.

On a side note, I ran the speaker wire down the wall to behind the baseboard (i have a 4" tall baseboard) and i ran all the wires into my media closet. This worked out quite well and allowed for in-wall installation where the attic couldn't be accessed above.

PROS: The mids are warm, the highs are crisp and it can handle my 1008 quite well. I have only hooked these up as surround channels though, and haven't ran them hard like main speakers.

CONS: I wasn't able to take the speakers out once they were installed.

I picked up 3 pair of these for a 5.1 system. They are replacing a set of Logitech Z-5500 THX certified speakers. In between buying them and receiving them I got a fantastic deal on a H/K 7.1 channel receiver so I ordered another pair. I am using 7 of these (one as my center channel) and I have to say they are nothing short of amazing, especially for the price point. Fantastic/crisp clean sound. I kept my SVS 20-39 for my Sub though... I use them primarily for movies but my son played a few rounds of Halo: Reach last night and was jumping up and down... he approves. If your looking for a great set of speakers you found them. No comparison between these and my old Z-5500's.

PROS: Extremely well built. The first thing I thought of when picking them up was B&W (google it if you don't know what it is). They sound fantastic. Super easy to install (just miss the studs in the wall). Did I mention how well they are built?

    CONS: Absolutely none.

    Excellent Speakers
Using these for Front Left and Right complementing a high end center channel that's five times the price of the pair. Audio across soundstage is smooth, detailed, lifelike and seamless. These hold their own in a high end system. Highly recommended.

    PROS: Sound. Build Quality.Appearance. value

    CONS: Mounting hardware just OK

    Perfect for home theater
I purchased a set of these back in April 2013 and have been using them as rear speakers for my home theater. While the sound reproduction is very, very good for watching movies, it leaves a bit more to be desired for surround music especially when listening to high quality string orchestra music. On the other hand, I doubt very much if you can get any better quality for in-wall speakers at, or even double, this price.

    PROS: Excellent value

    Very good home-theater quality

    Well constructed

Extremely easy to install using the provided template

CONS: Hi-freq reproduction comes up a bit short

    Great in-wall speakers
These speakers sound wonderful (I like) and they aren't very noticeable (wife likes).
Compared to other 'inexpensive speakers' the arms that hold the speaker in place work much better and I didn't have to solder the speaker wire to the speaker.
The provided piece of cardboard doubles as a cut out pattern and a board to cover the speaker while you paint the trim, if you're so inclined.
It isn't too difficult to paint the grill, if you're careful and patient.
I couldn't be happier with the results.

    PROS: Great construction
    Great sound
Provides template for cut out and a paint guard to paint trim without painting speaker

    CONS: None

    Easy install and sounds great
Installed speakers last night. Installation was a cinch (had already run the cable, so was simply a matter of cutting the hole, attach the wires and turn 12 screws). Tested with a few tracks, sound great.

    PROS: * Easy installation
    * Sound great

CONS: No gripes about these speakers - just a observation. Monoprice doesn't have a center-channel speaker that matches (in terms of style, rating and impedance) these speakers. Their 8ohm CC speaker has the narrow flange and is only rated 80W. I'm looking for at least 100W (although 150W would be nice), with the large (1 inch) flange - most 5.1 sources have the majority of the sound on the center channel (dialogue, etc).

Easy to install and sound fantastic. I used these for center and L/R for a 5.1 surround system. I couln't be happier with the results.

    PROS: Inexpensive but not cheap
    Easy to Install
    Sound is fantastic

CONS: Painting the speaker grills to match interior wall was a challenge.

    Well worth the money
I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did. These speakers sound amazing, especially for the price. I looked at a lot of name brand speakers that cost 3 to 4 times the price and they didn't sound as good as these do. I bought 4 for 5.1 surround in our movie room.

PROS: Easy installation. Sound awesome. Easy to paint.

CONS: Wall clips are a little flimsy
