Slim Series Passive MHL 3.0 Cable 9ft (8.8ft) - Black

Step into the latest and greatest in mobile video connectivity using this MHL® 3 compatible Slim Series Passive MHL 3.0 Cable from Monoprice!

MHL allows you to connect your Android™ mobile phone or tablet to your HDMI® equipped HDTV and enjoy full high-definition video and audio. Earlier versions of MHL supported resolutions up to 1920x1080p (1080p), but MHL 3 now supports 4K video at up to 30 frames per second. It also supports a bidirectional high-speed data channel and improved Remote Control Protocol, allowing your to control your mobile device using your TV's remote control.

This passive MHL cable features a standard 5-pin micro USB connector and is suitable for use with all MHL compatible Android devices, except the Samsung Galaxy® line, which requires a proprietary USB connector, and the LG phones, which use SlimPort instead of MHL.

The Slim design results in an HDMI connector head that measures only 16.5mm wide and 7.1mm thick. The micro USB connector measures only 9.0mm wide and 6.2mm thick, allowing it to fit most phones and tablets without the need to remove the protective case. The TPU molded connector heads result in greater durability and pull-force protection, while the thicker gauge conductors allow this 9-foot cable to charge at the same rate as the shorter 6- and 3-foot length cables.

The MHL 3.0 specifications include the following features:

    • 4K (Ultra HD): Support for 4K formats up to 2160p30
    • Simultaneous high-speed data channel
    • Improved Remote Control Protocol (RCP) with support for peripherals such as a touch screen, keyboard and mouse
    • Power charging up to 10W
    • Backward compatible with MHL 1 and MHL 2
    • Latest HDCP 2.2 content protection
    • Enhanced 7.1 surround sound with Dolby® TrueHD™ and DTS®-HD Master Audio™
    • Connector agnostic – uses as few as five pins
    • Support for simultaneous multiple displays
    • For use with MHL-equipped devices only

PROS: Seems like a well made cord and would work well if I actually had a MHL compatible device.

CONS: Somewhat misleading as it will not work with ALL android devices. The wording should really say it works with Android devices compatible with MHL.

    Works perfectly
Using this passive cable to connect my HTC One m8 MHL equipped phone to an Hitachi MHL equipped TV. Hook up is simple, just connect HDMI cable end to HDMI/MHL port on TV and USB cable end to USB port on phone. TV automatically changed to proper port and whatever is displayed on my phone is mirrored to the TV. Could not be easier.

Just be sure both devices are MHL equipped to use this cable. Other wise you will most likely need an MHL adapter.

Easily mistaken for the other MHL connector
I am sure the cable works fine, but I have been unable to use it. It turns out MHL can run over either 5 PIn or 11 PIn Micro USB ports. Since both ports look just about the same in photos and the specs don't clearly list one or the other I thought that I was buying the right cable because this one said MHL. I was wrong
