I read a previous review and was hesitant to buy due them saying that the screws included in the packaging did not fit the Sonos play 1 speaker. I'm glad I did not heed their warning because everything included was correct. This could be due to monoprice's excellent customer service in correcting an issue that we as relayed to them by one of their buyers or maybe not. Either way I couldn't be happier with the product I recieved. It fits my decor perfectly. I would have to admit the instruction are blurry and hard to read but who reads instructions anyway. Great product at a great price! Monoprice's never disappoints.
While the assembly directions are virtually worthless, it doesn't tale much to figure out how everything goes together. The hardware provided was exactly what was needed and everything fit - even the screw that mounts the speaker itself. The only issue I had is that the opening in the back wall, where the speaker power cord is supposed to be routed through into the hollow leg of the stand, is too small. I had to break out my dremel with a cut-off wheel to enlarge this opening. A little filing of the rough edges and you are good to go. Still, great value for the price!
Several of the screws didn't fit properly due to poor tolerances in the drilled holes, but I managed to make it work with some elbow grease. As far as I can tell, it's impossible to fish the power cord inside the stand so I didn't do that. You're saving a fortune over the stands sold on Amazon, so it's worth the trouble and they do look great when assembled.
Almost Impossible to Assemble: Terrible Manufacturing
I purchased three sets of these speaker stands as they looked good and the two reviews that had been written recommended them. Big mistake!. While the other reviews did warn that one of the screw that holds the actual speaker to the stand did not fit properly and would need to be replaced (purchased separately at your local hardware store or home improvement center), all else was OK and i thought I could live with that minor tweak. In actuality, you should know that almost NONE of the screws fit properly. This is a combination of poorly drilled/machined screw holes AND the fact that they give the wrong size screws as well. Five out of assembly six screws just would not fit or work. It took me three trips to Home Depot, two hours of fiddling and trial and error, and cannabalizing parts from a second set that I had also purchased just to get one set mostly assembled. (I finally just decided to leave a bottom cord guide off as it was impossible to find four crews that would actually work, and this small piece was not essential to the function of the speaker stands.) So, three hours, three trips to Home Depot, and lots of extra muscle and sweat to just assemble one pair of these speaker stands is simply not worth it.
As an extra note, I spoke with Monoprice customer support the next day and they were awesome, as usual. They understood the issues, took good notes, and said they would be working with their product specialists to see if they need to pull this item from their inventory. (They should stop selling this item. Monoprice is great, but this item is just not up to their usual good standards.) And I was offered a refund on the two additional sets of speaker stands I had bought that I cannot use at this point, after I ship them back, which is fair.
So I would recommend that you NOT buy these speaker stands. If you do anyway, expect to go hunting for several mysterious sized screws and use a bunch of muscle to get them to even work in poorly machined screw holes. Oh, and if you do decide to go for it despite this warning, you should know that the size of the replacement screw noted in one of the other recommendations is incorrect. You will need ¼-20 x ½ inch long screws to hold the actual Sonos speaker to the assembled stand. (The other recommendation said it was a ¼ inch long screw, which is too short, and that is what i had to make one of the additional trips to Home Depot!)
PROS: Look good and good price, BUT... DO NOT BUY THESE!
CONS: Ridiculously poor manufacturing. Screw holes are so poorly machined that almost none of the screws work. Assembly is awful and difficult, if not actually impossible. In addition, the screws are not even the correct size. And one of the pieces (the cord guide plate on the bottom) will be impossible to attach no matter what you do to try to use your ingenuity to get these to work. DO NOT BUY THESE!
This is a really nice speaker stand. I chose the white stand and the color matches the Sonos Play 1 exactly. The instructions manual is a rather poor copy where the images and print are blurry and low definition. All the parts worked well although the threads to receive the hex bolt and the cross head bolts needed a bit of work to fit the bolt/screws flush. The hex bolt used to attached the speaker is a bit too long and doesn't tighten up snug against the speaker stand ( I will need to use additional washers for a snug fit). All in all, this is a great price and a great stand.
PROS: Great price for a great stand. Color matches the speakers exactly. Nice weighted base.
CONS: The threads for receiving is the bolts and screws are not really matched for a smooth attachment. The hex bolt to attach the speaker to the stand needs to be either shorter or have more washers.
The white match perfectly the white Sonos. The stand is heavy and solid. The feet are adjustable to prevent rocking on uneven floor. The two screws provided for the Sonos speaker are not the right one: wrong thread and length! You will need to buy at the hardware store two 1/4-20 x 1/4 long screws to work with the Sonos. I like the clamp at the bottom to clamp the power cable to the right length (I've pushed back the extra cable inside the arm) so that there is no extra cable on the floor between the stand and the wall AC outlet.
PROS: Solid Perfect white color heavy Look nice
CONS: need to buy 2 screws for the Sonos speakers (1/4-20 x 1/4 long) Instruction pictures not clear
