Mini Rechargeable Portable Speaker (Pair)
Share your mobile music or videos and get great quality stereo sound in the palm of your hand with these Mini Rechargeable Portable Speakers from Monoprice!
These small speakers are a perfect match for your portable music player, phone, or tablet and produce a big sound that belies their small size. Now you can watch a video on your phone or tablet and share it with friends without having to get extra headphones and "Y" cables. They are perfect for use in an office, attached to a laptop for a presentation, or plug them into your phone for a louder and clearer speaker phone during conference calls. Do you want music while you cook? Just plug them into your phone or mp3 player and fill your kitchen with both sweet sounds and savory smells!
The speaker drivers measure 36 mm and are each powered by a 1.7 watt amplifier. They have a S/N ratio of ≥ 80 dB and a frequency response range of 280 Hz to 16 KHz. While these frequency response numbers would indicate poor bass and treble response, the speakers produce a loud, clear, and distortion-free audio response across the entire musical spectrum.
The placement of the speaker drivers in the top of the enclosures allows them to really air out and fill a room with sound, without the "boxy" sound so often found in small speakers. Stereo placement is distinct and very much akin to listening to headphones - instruments or voices in the center sound like they are coming from another speaker placed in the center.
Each speaker measures only 2 3/16" in diameter and about 1 5/8" tall when closed (about 2 1/4" tall when opened). They have a magnetic base, which allows them to attach to each other, forming an elongated egg shape when closed. They can also be attached to any magnetic metallic surface.
The speakers open up for use, revealing the controls and connection ports. The set comes with two cables. One is a standard 29" 3.5mm male-to-male stereo audio cable, which connects to the right side speaker. The other cable is a USB Y cable. One end has a standard USB A male plug, which connects to any USB power source and is used to charge the speakers. There are also two USB mini-B male plugs, which attach to each speaker. These carry both the power and audio signal between the two. The Y cable measures 17" between the two USB mini-B connectors and 5.5" between the USB A male plug and one of the mini-B ends. The left side speaker contains the power switch, LED indicator (red for charging, blue for charged/operating while not charging), and the volume control.
Don't let their size fool you. No, they won't replace your 100 watt/channel Dolby 5.1 home theater setup, but you will be amazed that so much good sound can come from such a small package. They make great stocking stuffers for the kids or just a great treat for yourself and your friends at any time of the year!
Add a single High Performance Portable Speaker (PID 8595) to get a bit more low-end bass, while still getting the stunning musical tones and stereo placement from these speakers!

CONS: Battery Life
LED to bright
Another Monoprice winner!
PROS: Very compact, good sound, well made, look good, excellent value.
CONS: None, really, though I haven't had the chance to test battery life.
They say you can daisy chain these with the other red speaker http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10823&cs_id=1082301&p_id=8595&seq=1&format=2 to get just that.
I think I'll purchase it at a later point in the year, to see if it really does the trick.
I am an audiophile so I don't really know what I was expecting from a 17$ pair of rechargeable portable speakers as sound quality.
Of course it does sound OK, but just don't expect those speakers to blow you away (even if they can be loud)
I use them mostly for bedroom music, whether it's for sleeping, or having a bit of "fun" with my girlfriend. They are just fine for that. If I'm cooking or plan to use them somewhere I need more sound definition, I will be using another stereo chain and bust out some CDs.
My girlfriend really likes them, she is bringing them everywhere in the house, uses them on her laptop for better sound, uses them when she is studying, etc. If they weren't that portable, I would had returned them.
I bought these along with some 8323s headphones, and used the extra long audio jack from these for the dual speakers, so wire length is not an issue (except maybe the distance between both speakers, which is not that big of a problem because there is no way I'd use that for "surround" or "stereo".
I'd gladly buy these again if I was to buy another set of cheap portable speakers as they work as intended.
PROS: Cheap, Portable, Very Dependable, Sexy, Battery lasts a long time, USB rechargeable.
CONS: Doesn't sound really good when loud, power button is hard to switch on/off, volume slider hard to locate in the dark,
Sound- AMAZING! These speakers are so much louder than I expected. You could get 2 pairs of these, have one in each corner of a bedroom or even a small living room, and just run longer cable than the ones that come with it, and you could have a pretty high quality surround sound, without the bass obviously. I have a very large and powerful Panasonic Tri-Amp stereo, and I think these things could run right along with it, and they are smaller than the tweeters on the stereo.
CONS: Could come with a longer usb cable, speakers can't be very far apart with the cable provided, so I'd suggest buying a longer usb cable that connects the speakers, but hang onto the charging one of course.
