I'm a fan of Samsung SSD's, they're the best. I bought one of the original 830 series years ago (still in service) and fell in love with them. Each new series brings more improvements and the 850's are fantastic! I have my favorite software to clone drives but decided to give the supplied software a shot. I found it easy to use and performed quickly and flawlessly. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
I highly recommend this SSD!
PROS: FAST, FASTER, FASTEST! Low power requirements Runs cool Reliable Compact Good support software
CONS: May require a shim to fit some laptops Since it's harder to recover data from a failed SSD, it's more important to maintain a current image Not as inexpensive as mechanical hard drives....yet
The Samsung 850 EVO series has some great speeds. Did I benchmark it? No. Plenty of others have done that. What I did was install it, load Windows 10 in less than 10 minutes, and now boot my computer in seconds.
Haven't had a chance to try the SSD yet but wanted to comment on the fast and exceptional delivery. The SSD was delivered 2 days after ordering and came early in the morning by a very polite and friendly person who actually came to the door, rang the doorbell and waited for me to answer No just tossing the package on the porch and running. I actually had to sign for it.. He actually said thanks and wished me a good day. Almost fell over. Great service!!
I treated myself to this drive as a birthday gift to myself. My Dell laptop is over 4 years old running Windows 7 Pro. I cloned my drive and replaced the HDD with this SSD. It is like having a new computer. Everything is blazing fast. I think my 4 year old computer is now outperforming the newer ones in my office. Very easy to do. I have average tech skills and found it very easy.
Great Product at Reasonable Price, but Bundled SW is Lacking
This is a great product that performs as expected. It's fast and light. But if you're planning on replacing your laptop drive, you need to be comfortable with removing hardware and configuring software, plus you'll need an external case & USB connection to use the bundled "cloning" software. They do not provide an option to create an image file of your existing drive to some other source (flash drive, external HD. etc.) that can then be restored to the new SSD. It ONLY allows you to "Clone" the data directly from the original drive to the Samsung SSD where both drives have to be connected to the computer at the SAME TIME. If this wasn't so cumbersome, I'd have given it 5 stars!
