Purchased about 20 of these over the last 4 months as a low cost wireless mouse for our company. Batteries only last about 1-2 months, significantly lower than comparable other competing units (with range from 12-24 months). Had many of these units fail, around 25% just seemed to stop working after a month or two, even with a fresh set of Monoprice batteries. I have 5 mice sitting in the penalty box next to me, that have been returned from users. At this point I've stopped ordering this product and moved on to different brands of mice in the identical price range, not worth the time to keep switching them out unfortunately.
I threw this into an order with another item because I needed a laptop mouse, and it was there. I am pleasantly surprised at the build quality. It's very solid - doesn't feel cheap at all. I've owned some other budget wireless mice that would not let you hold the button for very long before it cut out, and I have no such issues here. It tracks smoothly, and the auto off/on feature works. The design is also completely symmetrical, which would be great for anyone looking for a left-handed mouse, and looks pretty good in general. The textured sides allow for solid grip without the sticky gel stuff that breaks down over time. The only real downside is the lack of additional buttons, but I knew this was a 3-button mouse going in, so it's not really a con.
There are definitely smaller transmitters out there, but it's not huge. It sticks out about 3/8", and the lip on it, while it does allow for easy gripping, could also get caught on things. It works for me, but is decidedly less sleek than the mouse itself.
Overall, another monoprice treat that makes you wonder why prices are so inflated everywhere else.
PROS: Surprisingly solid, tracks well, no funky cutting in and out like some budget wireless mice. A simple, but nice looking design.
Loved the feel of the small mouse. not TOO small, but certainly not heafty.. I have this one and then a 9257 model also. VERY similar but I prefer this one (the 9256) a little because of the better feel I think it has. Mine lasted about 2 years before it stopped responding. Buying another now.
PROS: Light, cheap, has a great feel for a small mouse
CONS: If this is a con, mine lasted 2 years. But for ten bucks...
I'm elated with this inexpensive mouse. I wondered if I was throwing my money away but I'm very happy with it. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 and the mouse worked immediately after plugging in the USB plug. Works great from 2 meters away.
PROS: Light, solid, good grip, nice clicks, nice scrolling, stylish, slides well, wireless worked right out of the box. Goes to sleep fairly quickly and wakes up with a click.
This is a terrible mouse and was a waste of money, because no matter what I tried or did, this mouse will not keep connectivity. The mouse seems to "go to sleep" and will not wake up. In order to bring it back to life you need to remove & reinsert the USB dongle AND turn the mouse off and on.
Tried to buy this for one of our employees, and after battling with it for two weeks, they threw it back on my desk and they went back to their ancient wired mouse, at least it worked.
Sorry monoprice, not a good product. I'd ask for my money back but I'm not sure it's worth it for such a piddling amount. Just throw it in the trash and lesson learned.
CONS: rather smallish "mobile" mouse, not a "full size" mouse.
PROS: This was an easy order. I typed what I wanted in the search box, the results were easy to filter, I found what I wanted and placed the order. Perhaps one of the easiest sites to work through. I received the order in a few days, it was complete and I deployed the product immediately. I will work with Monoprice in the future. They have what I want at the right price with no hassles in ordering.
Good mouse for what it is great mouse for the price
This mouse surprised me for the price. For any normal use, it is excellent. I wouldn't expect playing a fast-paced FPS would be a great experience with it, but who would expect that out of a $10 mouse?
I used this mouse on an iBook G4 with Ubuntu for PowerPC and a different iBook with Debian and I had no driver issues.
When I moved more than 10 feet away from the dongle/PC, the mouse lagged slightly.
I did not dock any points from my rating for either of these two cons because they are heavily outweighed by the pros, and there are no glaring negative aspects as far as I can tell.
TLDR Great mouse for casual PC use.
PROS: Works perfectly at short range Scrolling wheel is very nice and works well Comfortable feel, especially for a smaller mouse Plastic feels amazingly solid USB dongle storage is really nice for durability No driver issues on Linux or strangely obscure setups
CONS: Not great for long range Probably wouldn't work well for gaming
