I just purchased 5 - E40 cartridges for my Canon PC735 copier. I opened only one cartridge and it was defective: - Page printed all BLACK, requiring exposure level to be placed very light - The toner cartridge is misaligned for my particular copier and BANGS when printing creating blank streaks across the place where the gears slip.
What's interesting about this cartridge is the plastic gear arm that's mounted to the gear on the toner separator blade (located just below the directional arrow on the top cover). This armature is mounted at a slight angle versus straight up and down (vertical). My copier works perfectly using cartridges that have this armature in the vertical position, but BANGS when using cartridges where that armature is at an angle. I had previously ordered these cartridges from Monoprice and those came with the vertical armatures which is why I ordered them again from Monoprice. My previous Canadian supplier shipped me cartridges with this armature at this slight angle (same as what I received in this shipment) and I experienced this same banging which is why I chose to return to Monoprice for my purchase despite the high USA currency exchange rate.
I felt through the packaging of the other 4 boxes I ordered and that armature in those boxes feels like they are also in that angled position, thus no point opening the packaging to try those cartridges! Shucks!!!
I went to a local supplier in Winnipeg today and purchased a refilled cartridge from him with that armature in the vertical position - costed $112.95 CDN, but at least I can now use my copier! I took with me the opened cartridge from Monoprice so he could see the difference and perhaps have a solution so it would work on my copier. He wasn't aware of this problem and hadn't paid attention to the position of that gear arm before, so he learned something too and explained to me how it works. I put the cartridge into one of his old Canon copiers that used that model of cartridge and it worked fine with no banging on his machine, however, the pages came out BLACK requiring him to turn down the exposure to almost nil to get a clean copy. He told me that this cartridge was defective as it shouldn't be printing black like that. I will be requesting an RMA number to return these cartridges to Monoprice. I'm assuming I'll have to eat the cost for shipping them back to Monoprice (I wish it was free shipping from USA to Canada and vise versa).
I ordered 2 Brother Toner cartridges as well - have never had a problem with those cartridges so assuming they are ok. I don't know how the RMA works, if I should only return the Canon Toner and keep the Brother toner or simply return the entire order to Monoprice? I may need to give Monoprice a phone call to discuss.
Hopefully I can find another supplier that has cartridges with that armature in the vertical position for a cheap price! Seems like I need to be phoning first vs ordering blindly off the web.
I use a lot of toner in my Canon copier. The usual price of Canon toner cartridges is around $80. Monoprice is half the price. I have been purchasing toner for my copier and laser printer for the last two years or so at Monoprice. I won't shop anywhere else. Why would I?
