This tester works well and helped me to find a few incorrectly terminated (cross and open) wires during a recent cat 5 office install. I would like some more features like total run/wire length and speed tests, but I wasn't willing to spend the big bucks to do so. For the price, I don't think unit can be beat. Other low cost options I looked at seemed flimsy, and this had more features.
First unit was DOA, monoprice quickly replaced by cross-shipping and provided a free RMA shipping label.
You definitely can't fault this thing for anything. It's a quick and good rj45 cable tester! I sort of wish I had bought the version that also tests f-type coax/bnc/and rj11 cables. I found out that if your running Ethernet you almost always come across some coax that needs testing :) or maye a phone line or 2... But for what it is and does it does very well. Dirt cheap too. Love monoprice.
PROS: Quick Easy Does exactly what it says Comes with a 9v
CONS: None really as long as all you need it for is rj45 cables
I needed a tester to set up my home network. This one works great. My only complaint is the brightness of the LEDs. They are so bright you can't read the labels next to them until they go out. A minor issue, but that's what brings the rating down a notch.
Would be nice if the manufacturer can design a unit which can initiate the test from either side. This is helpful when you have long runs and have to go back and forth to switch the end to the next cable.
PROS: Great tool. used it to test all my cables this past week and worked like a charm.
I really liked this device especially for the price. One problem that I had was that the PASS light didn't work right out of the box. Contacted support they promptly sent a new one with a return shipping label for the return. Would have been a 10 if it hadn't been defective.
PROS: Great value, easy to use, audible PASS function.
This little tester saves time and money. connect it and with the one button operation quickly test your newly made cable. Green means go and red means Oh no. Make sure the cable is completely unplugged from any source or you'll fry the tester.
PROS: Small, Lightweight, Easy to Use.
CONS: Case is a little flimsy, no instructions but if you're making your own cables, you should be able to figure it out.
