Only one user at a time with ext. hard drive
I don't like the fact that only one person can be connected to the "server" at a time. Works for the printer but that isn't why I bought the item, it was to share files throughout my home and I can't so that sucks.

PROS: Works Fast, easy setup works good with my printer

CONS: When you connect to a ext. hard drive only one user can connect to at a time, kind of defeats the purpose of using it on a network.

    Disappointing as a Server
I'm very disappointed as this isn't really a server at all, but more of a network connector to usb devices. A server would share devices over the network and allow for proper mapping of drives or shares. This device is basically a networked usb management device. All operating systems come with a built in usb management system so no additional software should be required to attached to a networked usb device. This device actually shows you the connected usb devices via the web gui, but has no mechanism to access the share without using the software management package. The software on the device itself is obviously of insufficient design as it should just live on the network and share what ever is connected to it. There are a few "servers" on the market which are true servers, skip this if you want a server, purchase it if you wish to have an additional usb management system installed on your pc. Very poor design and implementation. I expected better.

PROS: Device does connect to the network and pull an IP via DHCP on first power up with no user intervention required. That is it, the only bright spot to this device.

CONS: Lack of Web based GUI management of devices. The only web based management features are the ability to reboot, assign a password and static IP. Lack of ability to connect to any shares without a Windows based driver/software package. Lack of "server" features, such as mapping of networked shares or drives. Addition of a usb management system introduced into a system which already has usb management. Basically everything.

    Seems to work fine.
I've got an HP LaserJet 1018 printer, and a Seagate FreeAgent external drive. This product seems to access both of them just fine. Some notes though:

    1. In order to get it to work, I had to configure the firewall in my anti-virus software to allow the server software that you install on your computer to receive traffic. The FAQ that came on the CD with the product gave me the hint to do this.

    2. Even though it prints okay, the server software shows "Connect but error" when it connects to the printer.

    3. At the time of writing, the technical support item "Compatibility Report for PID 6041 USB print server" on monoprice.com contains the wrong information - I think it's the compatibility list for PID 5342, not this product. I've contacted monoprice's technical support and suggested they correct this.

    Semi wireless print server
The sales info needs to be clear that this device is really not a wireless device. I will need to return this product due to misleading sales info. I needed a wireless connection to the internet to the print server so it could be placed near the printers which have no nearby LAN connection available. If you need a totally wireless solution this will not work for you.

PROS: The device is well made and compact and stylish.

CONS: It connects to the internet via 10 base T (LAN) connection however and is not wireless in that respect.

    Hello,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear PID 6041 did not work out for your setup. That is correct, this USB print server does need to be hardwired to the router and USB devices. The wireless connectivity would only refer to the computers. We unfortunately do not offer any USB print servers that would connect to the router wirelessly at this time. If you would like, I can assist you in setting up a return RMA. If you wish to proceed with the RMA, just let me know and I can get that started right away. My apologies again for the trouble and I hope this helps!

    4-Port Networking USB 2.0 Server
It works exactly as described - I think they make it sound a little slower than it actually performs. I currently have a printer and an external hard drive hooked up to it. Formatting the network via my computer was extremely easy with the included set-up disc - took only a couple of minutes to get both my own and my girlfriend's computers set-up. Worth every penny.

Also, delivery was speedy and accurate. Couldn't ask for better service or a better product for what I needed. Thanks.

Exactly what I was looking for
I have several areas in the house wired with cat5e ethernet from a den/server room, and I wanted to move the printers from that area to another already wired. This product does exactly that. It's a bit confusing that material suggests it is also wireless, but that didn't matter to me since I wanted wired anyway. There is a bit of lag between sending a document to print and when it actually starts, but I can certainly live with that :)

    PROS: Simple to set up

CONS: Picky as to sequence of plugins. I had powered it on and then added the printers, no USB lights on the front came on. I power cycled and used toe reset then all was fine.

    Simple Printer sharing...
This port connects my laser printer too a new HP desktop and and aging HP Laptop that my wife and I use side by side in our home office. I first tried a network hub, but, the system would only work one time. Than it would stop printing from any computer. I believe the issue is that I run XP on the laptop and 7 on the desktop... I don't have time to spend trouble shooting, so I bought the print server and it works beautifully!

PROS: Easier to use than a network hub. Works with an XP computer and a Windows 7 computer, where-as the network hub continually crashed

    CONS: More Wires...

    Freakin Awesome
For the price it is a must. Slick design and easy install that only took about 3 min and I was done.

PROS: Easy setup, Very small, fast

CONS: it only works with some printers for the network printing feature, but if your printer is not listed like mine isnt then you can just connect to it instead of just clicking the print button and having the program do the work for you
