Can this shelf be mounted so the shelf is positioned inside the rack rather than extending outward from the front? Or, because I imagine rack dimensions may vary, what is the outside width exclusive of the ears?
I could not believe how heavy the steel is in these shelves! I've been buying rack gear for generations and these babys are super duty! They won't bow no matter how much you load them! I was wonderfully shocked!
I tend to use these to hold my computers off the ground. Keeping in mind that these are computers that are not manned and sit in a dark room alone running 24/7. I could keep them on the basement floor but I don't like that. I have one of these holding my modem and router, another holding tools and various bits of hardware and the rest are supporting computers.
I bought this for my Home Studio. It is very heavy duty but the front lip will have to be either removed or reduced due to the fact that it blocks the input on the amp and Direct Box I bought it to hold. Not a world-ender but a pain none the less.
I purchased a similar item several years ago from a different vender. I did a web search when I needed two more shelves. I was very happy when I found that I could buy two shelves plus express shipping for what two shelves would have cost from my old source.
this shelf i install on one of my walls attached to the studs behind the drywall. the proper application is on a standard rack but i am using this shelf for my modems and router and I needed in a particular place. The shelf is a little heavy but once installed properly it works perfectly and it does the job. i love this shelf. just be ready to find studs behind the wall if you are not installing it on a rack.
