will this plug work on solid cat6 cable?
    A shopper on Mar 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, just made up 4 cables using cat6 and they all passed.
Do these work with Platinum Tools EZ-RJ45 crimpers?
    Simon F on May 15, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: Yes it does
Are these pass through type plugs?
    Kent W on May 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No they are not...I am assuming that pass through indicates that the wire will protrude out of the end of the plug, to easily identify the sequence...these do not do that

    Works, but poor quality
I have been making my own Cat5 / Cat6 cables for what seems like forever now, and I have seen my fair share of different tips in my day. These RJ-45 tips seem like any other at first- simple, one piece tips which crimp nicely on your solid cable connections... and at a great price too! However, there are is a problem which make this product distinctively bad compared to others I have used. To be specific, the latching plastic mechanism does not stick up high enough to allow it to catch on to anything you plug it into! The entire reason I purchased new tips was to re-tip a few connections which the tips have broken, causing them to fall out whenever I so much as remove a USB cable from the back of my computer. What gain do I get if the latch doesn't even work?

To get it to work, you must bend the plastic latch further away from the body, which is the entire reason most of my other latches broke from other tips I have used! If the latch does not catch without modification, risking breaking the tip, than what good is the product? I didn't even think to look at the reviews for an RJ-45 tip. I mean, could someone really mess up a simple connector? I guess so.

You are better off finding a better product if you want something that will last, even if you pay a few more cents per tip. While I am making them work, I regret purchasing these tips in particular.

PROS: Quality plastic / pins. Crimps well.

CONS: Latch does not work without bending plastic, which could easily lead to breaking latch overall

    Silly Me
I've heard that solid and stranded CAT5 cable take different connectors but never paid much attention until I couldn't get one cable to work. Did some research and found connectors for stranded have single bayonet-like point. Connectors for solid have a V-shaped slot the wire slips into.

I was surprised these connectors didn't have a V-slot like wall jacks. Instead there are 2 bayonet-like points. Under magnification, it looks like one point is beveled on one side and the other is beveled on the opposite side. I guess the points are supposed to spread, one on each side of the solid wire.

    PROS: Great price

    CONS: None

Sort of cheap, my crimper renders them unusable
I got these to go with some bulk cable. It seems as though my crimper presses down the tab on these ends in such a way that leaves the cab at a very shallow angle to the connector. This means that after crimping the cable, I have to use a pair of scissors (or another thin rigid item) to "bend" the plastic clip back up far enough that it actually catches the port. While this seemed to work, it did cause some additional work after crimping the cable.

Again maybe it's just the tool I used, but I didn't seem to have this problem with other RJ45 ends I've used.

    PROS: They're really affordable

CONS: My crimper seems to render them unusable

They fall out of the port

Don't Buy-Waste more time than you'll save buying cheap
I have used these connectors in the past and found the same issues. I had to order them again due to a couple of big jobs (I use between 100 and 200 per job).

The time it takes to test, recrimp, retest, etc., it would be more beneficial to pay more for better quality.

NOTE: I have also used different crimping tools as well as purchasing brand new. Results are the same.

PROS: They look like any other RJ45 connector

CONS: They fail line testing on over 80% of cat5e tests

    Simple and effective
Works flawlessly with Cat5 cables, I've not had any issues.
No guides, but those can easily be obtained online (search for 568A and 568B wiring guides).

I have also successfully forced solid Cat6 wires into the plug.
It is a PITA, but it is doable with patience.

I would recommend getting proper Cat6 plugs if you need to make a lot of Cat6 cables.

    Incorrect plug?
I've made two solid cables so far and both seem to function despite seeming to have the wrong type of contacts. I'll update my review as I do the rest :)

    PROS: Seems to work.

CONS: According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modular_connectorSizes_and_contacts) the contacts in these things look like they are actually for stranded cable and NOT solid.

    PROS: Good price. Quick shipping.

CONS: latch on TK-45 connectors would not catch when inserted into a jack. Each latch needed to be pulled out so it would snap into place.

    Adequate RJ45 Connectors
These connectors are easy to crimp on Ethernet cable, and it is easy to see through the clear plastic to verify that the order of the colours is correct, and that the wires are fully seated in the connector.

However, the plastic latch does not secure well into most jacks. A good connector should have a firm click, these do not. Out of the two ends I have made so far, one is adequate, and one regularly falls out.

Other users recommend bending the latch to improve the latching pressure. I am disappointed these are not more secure.

    Disappointed -
We were disappointed because the modular plugs received were not the same ordinary type as expected. I just checked the picture again, it is exactly as shown. It is easily over-looked, as one would expect the whole metal part of the modular plug to be gold-plated. Some suppliers even specify the gold-plated rating. They do crimp ok. But still it's easy to spot that the top part is gold colour and the bottom part is silver even after it's is crimped. Some may believe the oxidization would take place faster since they are not fully gold-plated. The legs were splitted into a two prongs. For crimping solid cables, we would expect this to split into a three prongs as it secures the copper core of the cable better. We've ordered 60 bags (6,000 pcs) for resell purpose.
