Was told this did a great job stripping RG6 cable and it does so very very cleanly, among the best I have seen for sure. The warnings about the rear blades are true, I have removed only after cutting myself which is very easy to do if you aren't careful.
I don't get why would some one give this tool or any tool for that matter a low rating just because they don't know how to operate it... but w/e.
Excellent tool. Im in the cable industry and use it everyday mainly for RG6/11/59. The blade is precise. This is low cost but excellent quality and my favorite designed stripper. I had a more expensive one that needed the blade replaced (no replacement available) and I chose to get a new one from monoprice, and that was close to 2 years ago. I find myself having to buy another one for the same reason. No blade replacement available, but its still affordable.
Tried a different brand from amazon and returning it today and only b/c I'm a prime member.
I bought this tool primarily for stripping CAT6 cables. I too, found that there are no instructions that comes with the product. However, after watching a video online, it's like child's play.
1) Place the wire in the notch directly below the black circle dial, do not spin the stripper yet. 2) Check the blade to make sure has just enough contact with the outer casing adjust the black circle dial a few times for the correct cutting depth. 3) When you are confident that the right cutting depth is achieved, put the wire in and spin the stripper around the wire a few times. 4) Take the wire out and pull off the outer casing.
The notch above the words "NOT FOR STEEL" is for cutting the wire.
Again, that video is great at explaining other aspects of the tool. For less than $5 it does a great job.
Good product for the pro. With the price of these I never worry about loosing them. I buy 10 or more at a time so I have another handy.
PROS: Cheap, great for quad shielding, not afraid to lose them.
CONS: I've read in other reviews here that the cons are no instructions. If you need instructions you are a dumbass and shouldn't be buying these and running your own lines. Thats why your cable TV pixilates and your internet is intermittent.
This may be easy to use, if you already know how to adjust and use a similar tool, but it is almost useless if you need instructions. It appears this tool was made for the casual user, so provide instructions for the novice. This is not a tool a professional would use because it would break under daily use.
Come on Monoprice, write up some instructions and make a short video.
