I purchased these approx a year ago. I purchased a house and wanted to wire it up with CAT6 cable thoughout the house so I needed a set of tools for the job. I have made plenty of terminations with this tool and it has not failed me once. The tool feels quality in your hand and has everything you need to make a RJ45 termination. If you need a quality Multi-Modular Plug tool without spending a lot of money then you should feel at ease because you have reached the end of your search.
PROS: The Crimper did, an OK job, But no directions were included. You will need to purchase many more Jacks than you need as not all of them come out perfect. I expected better quality.
CONS: I needed this crimper urgently, and I ordered it from Monoprice, and paid for expedited shipping. I tracked the package to the wrong destination of the US. This clearly was the fault of the carrier, but the unit arrived 4 days later. My customer was angry at me, for not having the project completed, at the previously agreed upon time. I contacted Monoprice, and they did nothing for me, they would not even refund my shipping costs. With lame customer service like that, I have not purchased anything from them since.
I purchased this crimper/cutter over 2 years ago and have put hundreds if not thousands of Cat6 cables through it. Recently though, the longer blade for stripping the cable jacket broke into 3 pieces, not surprising after years of use, unfortunately Monoprice does not sell replacements and they are not a standard size you would find in a store. I contacted product support and was informed that its only a 25$ tool so buy a new one, that seems like a waste both of a good tool and my money. I am disappointed that Monoprice assumes their customers have the money to just throw away a tool and buy a new one. I am more than willing to purchase a new blade or even an entire pack if they were available.
PROS: It is a very good crimper/cutter, very well built
I had never used a crimping tool before but wanted to run some solid cat5e lines in my home. I've used it a few times and it works perfectly! I wanted a more professional tool that would outlast and outperform the cheaper ones and I'm happy I went with this one!
PROS: Cuts, Strips and Crimps all in one great tool.
Came with the wire stripper blade broken in three parts. Doesn't cut CAT5 or CAT6 cleanly and of course there was the broken stripper blades. There are ZERO instructions and the cutter & stripper are directional...think it over and...
BUY SOMETHING ELSE!
PROS: Price is good and IN THEORY it looks like a sturdy tool. Remember the old addage about looks!
CONS: Came with the wire stripper blade broken in three parts. Doesn't cut CAT5 or CAT6 cleanly and of course there was the broken stripper blades. There are ZERO instructions and the cutter & stripper are directional...think it over and...
I was a novice at network wiring until I undertook to wire up my house with CAT-6. I ordered this crimper for my project and have not been dissapointed. It is solidly built, works perfectly, and most importantly for a beginner it is easy to use. Another home run for monoprice.
Excellent product. I've used other crimping tools, but this one takes the cake. Ratcheting mechanism works perfectly. RJ45 ends clip into position and stay there. I haven't had any other crimper do that and now I have myself wondering why they didn't. The adjustable stripper removes the jacket nicely off of UTP without digging into the twisted pair.
I don't ever crimp RJ11, so I can't say how well this tool does that. I would guess just as well.
For reference, my old crimper was very similar to the Product 1386 on Monoprice.
I make my own RJ45 cables for my computer business and this crimper is the best that I have used in a very long time! It crimps perfectly every time. Monoprice continues to amaze me on the quality of their products. Keep it up and I will be sure to be back for more!
