Learned the hard way, not a stereo splitter
Bottom line: this adaptor takes a stereo signal from the 1/8" side and sends both L and R channels out along each 1/4" channel. I bought this thinking it would separate the L channel onto one 1/4", and the R onto the other, but it doesn't.

PROS: Splits a stereo signal into two mono 1/4" cables.

CONS: Does not separate the stereo signal into a left and a right channel.

Does not split stereo to L and R channels
I bought one of these thinking I could plug it into a 1/8" stereo output jack, and get left and right channels to run into speakers. It does send audio to the two speakers, but it doesn't split left and right. According to tech support, it works if you want to mix L and R 1/4" mono channels into 1/8" stereo, but not in the other direction.

    Defective but replacement sent
I contacted Monoprice about the defective part and told them it was not worth sending back for a replacement. I made no requests but Monoprice offered to send a replacement. I am impressed. Mail order purchases have the liability that if the product is defective, the cost of shipping a part back for a replacement can nullify the saving. I also know that a company can be cheated by dishonest people who will lie about a defective part in order to get something for nothing. Thank you to Monoprice for their confidence in my honest. That is priceless to me.

    PROS: The price was unbeatable.

CONS: The original part was defective but it was not worth sending it back for a replacement. See review for follow-up.

    Good, but...
Most of them worked really good. I love the price compared to Radio Shack.

    PROS: Good Price

CONS: I am glad I bought extra because a couple have stopped working and I have to replace them.

Not a Stereo to Mono Split
Like the above user, the title of this product is misleading. It says stereo to 1/4" mono, but fails to mention that it's a summed mono signal, which is mostly useless. The intent of most stereo mono adapters is to separate left and right channels from the stereo signal into two separate mono channels, each only containing the left OR right signal, not both.

    PROS: cheap

CONS: not as advertised - or at least unclear

Does not split a signal- wrong to call it a splitter
This adapter does not split a signal at all- For example, for recording into a PC, you have a single stereo 3.5mm jack. You have microphones, which produce mono 1/4" plugs. You would want a splitter which takes one mic and sends it to the 'left' channel of the 3.5mm, and one mic sent to the 'right' channel of the 3.5 mm. Instead, both channels are mashed together, making discrete stereo recording to PC impossible. Utterly useless for almost any application- I can't think of why you'd want to mash both signals together while recording.

Imagine two guitars- you'd want one guitar in on right channel, a different one on the left in order to keep them separate in the mix- Not possible with this setup, even though it's advertised as a 'splitter'.

    Utterly useless.

    PROS: Cheap

CONS: Does not 'split' signal to left and right channel in the 1/4 inch portions

Record in stereo on your camcorder!
Well built adapter. This adapter allows me to connect 2 mics with mono XLR CABLES with 6.35mm plugs into a camcorders 3.5mm Mic jack. Easy way to get stereo video.
