does not split left and right
I thought this would split a stereo signal into left and right channels, it doesn't. It mixes the stereo to 2 mono channels, but i realize now that's exactly what the description says it does. I thought I could use it to put 2 mono lavaliere mics into a Zoom H1 and split the channels to left and right and edit/mix them later, but that didn't work because it puts both mics into both channels, still somewhat useful. I'm going to try a different arrangement of adapters to hopefully achieve my desired results (without a field mixer). It would be cool if monoprice included either a schematic of these adapters or pictures of the insides of them in the description.

    PROS: Good quality

CONS: Does not split stereo signal to left and right

Split signal but not as expected
not what I expected, please see Cons.

CONS: takes a stereo signal (Male part) and splits it into 2 mono channels. The problem is that i needed it to route the Left and Right channels coming in via the Male plug to the 2 mono plugs independently, Left on left and Right on Right. It gave me the same channel on both female plugs... so basically it stripped one channel out.

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello Leeor,

Thank you for your review. I am truly sorry for the inconvenience, but at the moment we do not have anything that splits both left and right channel. But I will go ahead and forward this to our product development team. Thank you!

    Not what I thought
Others have left the same comment I'm about to leave, wished I would have read them first, but this adapter does NOT split the audio into 2 separate channels. It makes them mono, making it useless for what I wanted. I've gone ahead and bought a 1/8 to rca, then an rca to 1/8 to do what I thought this adapter could have done for me, but doesn't, because it will keep the 2 channels separate, unlike this adapter.

Does not split a stereo signal into L & R channels!
I made the same mistake as others and I didn't realize it until after my order was placed.

I think what we need is this product instead:

7inch Premium 3.5mm Stereo Male to 2RCA Female 22AWG Cable (Gold Plated) - Black

(An earlier reply to a comment here by Monoprices mentioned that they do not have a splitter adapter, but the cable above should substitute for an adapter because it is only 7" long.)

    PROS: inexpensive

CONS: The product discription is not clear enough.

    Missleading description
Giving it a 1 star because it doesn't do what it says it does..

As explained. The does not split a stereo signal into right and left mono signals. It combines the stereo signal into a mono signal with both right and left channels in one mono signal and then splits the mono signal into two identical signals.

FYI .. the only way I could find to solve this problem with monoprice items is to buy,
1 ea - PID 7189 3.5mm Stereo Plug to 2 RCA Jack Splitter Adaptor - Gold Plated
2 ea - PID 7241 RCA Plug to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adaptor - Gold Plated

Its a bit bulky, but it works

misleading description does NOT split stereo channels
Be warned, this is NOT a splitter adapter! I bought 5 of these hoping I could give them out to help people start DJing with just the one stereo output on their onboard sound card. These adapters will not help for DJing. Both channels of the stereo signal are mixed on both of the mono jacks.

CONS: does not work as advertised

    Response from Monoprice

Thank you for your feedback on PID 7205. I am truly sorry that this adapter did not work out for your DJ application. We currently do not have any solutions that would be capable of splitting a 3.5mm stereo signal to one left and one right channel at this time. I apologize for any trouble this may have caused. Should you have any questions regarding our products, please feel free to contact our tech support team via live chat or email at tech@monoprice.com

    Didn't work for me
I wish I would have read the reviews as well, but for me this only worked in one ear which is really annoying and defeats the whole purpose to split the signal. even if it was a mixed signal to both ears it would have been acceptable. The one that seems to meet my needs is 667.

    PROS: sturdy construction

CONS: only plays in one channel

    Response from Monoprice

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear PID 7205 did not work out for your setup. You are correct in that this adapter does not split the left and right channels. We do not offer any 3.5mm adapters or cables that would be capable of achieving that at this time, sorry to say. Even PID 667 would not work for this as it is a stereo to two 3.5mm stereo cable used for splitting one source signal to two different stereo output devices (such as two headphones). My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. Should you have any questions regarding our products, please don't hesitate to contact our tech support team either via live chat or email at tech@monoprice.com

This is NOT the splitter you're looking for
I should've read the reviews before I bought this. I, like many others, expected this to do what its description says it will do: split stereo into two mono. Nope.

I _think_ what it's doing is acting as a Y adapter and stereo-to-mono converter. Plug it into a stereo output, and now you get two identical outputs but in mono.

I expected this to actually _split_ a stereo signal into separate mono signals—left and right—you know, like "splitter" implies.

Based on Monoprice's response to other reviews, it looks like they don't currently have anything that does what we all expect this product to do.

At least is was only 35¢ that I wasted.

    PROS: Nice build quality

    Great price

CONS: Does NOT split a stereo signal

Sturdy and it works. This doesn't need a twelve-word review.

IT IS NOT STEREO!!! Very misleading
Stereo to two mono implies that each mono channel goes to a different stereo channel.

This is not so in this case. The two mono channels are mixed together, and only then are split into two channels. The result - two channels which are identical, meaning that really I got a mono signal.

Seriously, if the "stereo" plug was really mono, there would be absolutely no difference.

Really, the "stereo" plug is completely useless. It should've been mono.

I wish I read the reviews before buying four of these

    PROS: It's not completely useless

CONS: It's mostly useless because it's not stereo

    Hello Vlad,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear PID 7205 is not working out for your setup. We unfortunately do not have any adapters that would split the left and right channels at this time. However, I will put in a product suggestion for one. Thank you for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated! For now, if you did not have any use for the adapters, I can help setup an RMA for a return. If you wish to proceed with the RMA, just let me know and I can get that started right away. My apologies again for any inconvenience and hope this helps!
