How deep is this product? Measurement for recessed portion?
    A shopper on Dec 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The depth of the plastic is about 1/2 inch or the thickness of the most common drywall. The tabs that hold the box in place have screws that will accommodate thicker wall material such as 3/4 inch wood that you might encounter in some situations or 5.8 inch drywall that is required by code in some situations. If you have old plaster and lath walls it may or may not work easily for you. Unlike high voltage wall boxes, these are just make to provide a frame for the faceplate and since drywall of 1/2 inch thickness has been common for several decades that is the edge that you are covering when you use these. They are referred to as "old work" boxes by many vendors.

Nice recessed look but could use a bigger wire opening
There are only two options when it comes to getting a recessed power outlet with cable management wall plate and surge protection. I chose this because the wire and outlet placement seemed more logical. I like how the clips that hold the plate to the wall were made of metal and not plastic. The surge protector has a small green led so you know it's working. If for some reason the power does surge, it can be replaced but it requires taking the whole unit off the wall. The only negative was that I have the heavy duty monoprice HDMI cables and those wires just barely fit through since the shielding on them is very thick. I have 2 Commericla Premium HDMI cables, 1 premium optical audio cable, 1 Ethernet cable, and 1 thin HDMI cable and I don't think I can fit anymore through there. We have a Wii with RGB component cables and audio and I didnt even try running it through because There isn't enough room. This gives me a reason to sell the Wii that hasn't been used in over two years.

PROS: Recessed power, surge protection, metal mounting clips, easy installation

    CONS: Wire hole is small

    Great product!
Very quality piece! I think some of the reviews saying it's fragile were made by people trying to tighten it down too much. Just don't get crazy with it. Very happy with this purchase.
