The cover plate needs around another 1/16” of an inch in depth to ensure the cover plate will meet the wall. The combination of the low voltage junction box and this setup, the cover plate is not flush to the wall. Another thing that is though is the design of the insert is not the same size as a normal cover plate so you are stuck installing this only in a 1-gang box instead of a larger one. Normal cover plates don’t work with this design.
wont fit in a standard decora cover plate if you are using this for one side of a double or more box. Other than that. Great product especially for the price. These are 5 times or more this amount at big blue box stores.
I just installed this for a customer. The insert does not fit into a standard multi-gang plate. I used a knife and scraped away at the blank for about 20 minutes to be able to insert it into the blank plate.
The screw downs on the wall side seem to want to open. I highly recommend using bananas on both sides, not just the outside.
It's a lot of wires in a small space. If I had to do it again I would buy a plate with 8 posts for the 4 corner speakers and buy another separate plate with 2 post for the central speaker...a little breathing room. But as for the product, very satisfied.
The item works well enough, but beware that this is NOT a standard Decora size insert. It ONLY fits the plate it comes with, and does not work with standard 2-gang and 3-gang wallplates. It is larger and does not fit the Decora port. Looks are deceiving!
Good plates but make sure you check that the nuts on the backside of the plate are tight. While you're at it, make sure that the holes in the posts are oriented in a direction that you want them. This was true of the triple plate I bought also, but EXTRA important for this 5-pair unit depending on the space you have in the junction box and what gauge wire you're using. I'm using 14 gauge in-wall rated wire so planning my fanout on the back of the plate is important
I purchased this item to clean up an in wall speaker installation, and it worked great. Beware, the insert is taller and wider than normal inserts. When I attempted to put the double wall plate over this binding post insert and an HDMI pass through insert, I found that it did not fit over this insert. I trimmed the plate with a utility knife and voilà, but be prepared for that.
CONS: The insert is taller and wider than a standard insert, so any other face plates that you use will have to be trimmed to fit
This unit DOES NOT fit a standard decora wall plate. It is physically wider and taller. Yes, it comes with it's own single-gang wall plate, but what if you're putting it in a 2 or 3-gang box??? There is no reason why this product could not be designed and manufactured to fit standard wall plates. I had to modify the cover plate to get it to fit, but now it is unmatched with the other electrical components and looks stupid.
PROS: Pretty well built.
CONS: Does not fit standard decora wall plate. Limited flexibility. Does not match standard electrical fittings.
