Just bought a sound bar and discovered my HDMI TV doesn't have an optical port. Will this converter solve the problem? Or do I need a switcher with both optical ports and HDMI ports? Thanks.
    A shopper on May 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Does your TV not have optical but has spidf or it doesn't have either? What inputs does your sounbar have? This will take the analog audio out of the tv left and right and convert it to digital spidif and toslink. In theory you can use this but if your tv has spidf and sound bar only has toslink they sell an adapter to convert it and your better off with that
How long of a cable can be supported for coax out?
    David F on Dec 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Depends upon the quality of your coaxial cable and quality of the S/PDIF receiver. 25 feet of good coaxial cable should not be a problem.
    Is this dual voltage 110V/230V?
    New User U on Aug 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sorry it took me so long to answer but I never used it and could not find it. The AC Adapter says "Input 100 - 240V 50/60Hz 0.5 A Max
Does this support 230V (or dual voltage for use in EU and APAC)?

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello David,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8127. Now if I may ask, what are we connect to this? What length are the cables being used? Also, has this been the case since you received it? Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

I'm happy that I found monoprice. GREAT prices! My product is great. Had I bought from Bose it would have cost 130.00 and monoprice it was 30.00 so huge savings. I know have my older bose speakers using fiber optic instead of analog!

    Works great
This thing works great. Connected a Sony turntable that only has audio RCA (red/white) to my soundbar that only receives Optical Toslink & HDMI. Connecting took 5 mintues. It sounds awesome. My wife is loving listening to her vinyl. Shipping was lightning fast. I love MONOPRICE.

PROS: Compact. Easy connecting. Works Awesome. Great price.

    CONS: None.

    Great Device
I used this as well as a cable with analog stereo connections with a 3.5mm head jack to connect to my old Macbook computer, and an optical cable to connect to my LG TVs sound bar to get decent sound for a NFL Preseason broadcast. Prior to its use, I could clearly see the game, but could only receive audio from my computer. The ability to connect sound to the TV sound bar enhanced the experience tremendously! For a similar set-up, I would highly recommend this item. It's great for streaming videos too.

PROS: Easy set up, solid connections, reliable performance.

CONS: Not that I can see.

    Excellent product for my needs!
This was perfect for my needs. Having relatively low grade products in an RV, the inputs and outputs were mismatched. This quickly helped overcome the problems.

    Amazing value and it works!
I'm a broadcast radio group chief engineer. So I'm always looking for great problem solving products at reasonable prices. These A/D converters at this price break are must have gadgets for my tool box.

I have very expensive radio broadcast audio boards that do not have enough analog inputs but have a bunch of AES3 digital inputs. I also have a few very high end Denon CD players some with bad AES digital outputs. These consumer level analog in S/PDIF converters do a great job replacing the defective AES output of the Denon CD players and also providing more analog inputs to the expensive audio boards. The coaxial outputs though unbalanced can be wired to the balanced AES-3 inputs and work perfectly. Only caveat is to use resistor attenuator network on the RCA analog audio input feeds to prevent over-drivng them when feeding them with professional audio sources.

At the Monoprice price, they are a steal. From their on line eBay store at almost half price, they are an unbelievable bargain. Time will tell if they hold up well. I bought a dozen more!

Does exactly what it's supposed to do
I purchased this converter to run a digital coax signal from a DAC into the optical digital port on my sound card. It works flawlessly. There is no perceptible delay from my analog mic to my audio editing program. Another low-cost, high-quality product from Monoprice!

    PROS: Small, lightweight, fast

    CONS: None
