OK, this little gadget is a must, now that I know about it. I'm sure they're available elsewhere, but Monoprice always seems to have the best pricing on stuff like this, so I didn't bother to shop around. It was cheap enough that I ordered three of them, knowing I'd end up using them more than once as I connect up to HDTV or HDMI monitors.
Two things this cheap little connector does that make it worthwhile: (1) 90-degree angles, allowing thick, high-quality HDMI cables to be used in places where the bend radius would normally prevent it, and (2) couple a second cable to your "too short one", allowing you to reach the couch or easy chair with your laptop and still watch the movie on your big screen HDTV.
Even if you spent the extra for a longer cable (Monoprice has the best pricing on those too), you'll find that you need another HDMI connection somewhere else (computer monitor, etc), and that the only HDMI 1.3 cables you have are too short (6', 10', etc).
The couplers work very well, no image quality issues or any other problems in my experience (I have two in use now, with a third as a spare in the drawer). Next time you buy anything from Monoprice, add a couple of these to your order. For no more shipping cost, and only a few dollars, you'll have your emergency extender kit ready to go. It's a lifesaver.
These adapters are great! I would suggest getting a whole assortment. I had previously broken an HDMI connetion to my DVR because the cables could not bend freely. These are a small investment to keep your expensive electronics from being damaged. These Female to Female Adapters can be used to splice two shorter cables together.
I have a Panasonic TV with HDMI inputs mounted facing out the side. This meant that without the swivel unit the HDMI cable would protrude past the side of the TV ( I was using 24 gauge cable which is thick and bulky). The swivel unit also helped with connections at the video source.
PROS: The swivel makes the unit very versatile. Really help get my HDMI cable from sticking out the side of the TV.
