Will a 12awg speaker wire (Choice series 12awg #2747) fit in the back end without stripping back the insulation?
    Hanwook k on Apr 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you like to use banana plugs, these are just fine. I like them better than the other ones where the wire is inserted through the back screw.
What is the outer diameter? I'm trying to purchase heat shrink tub that will best fit. thanks!

    No Lip on Collar
Unlike most closed screw type banana plugs, these do not have a lip on the collar- the threads go all the way to the top. This makes a traditional rear mount tricky as when you fan the wire strands out over the top of the collar, they fold backward on the threads and prevent tightening. To circumvent this, you have to leave the collar in the sleeve, insert the wire and try to fan the strands out through the side openings, then tighten.

So this open screw type is great for "T" connections (wire inserted through the side), but not very good for rear connections... Unless I'm an idiot and have overlooked a simple solution.

    PROS: Solid construction

    Good looking

CONS: Traditional rear collar mount is tricky

Look good, but lacking in real usefulness
We have a couple "add-on" systems in side rooms and when I saw these on sale I thought I'd try a set to see if they'd help solidify the final stuff (connections, etc.). These banana plugs look OK, but as others have stated there really is quite a gap left even when they are screwed down all the way. That's not an absolute show-=stopper if you used 12AWG or thicker wire but if you use anything less the connection just does not inspire confidence. They're OK at the sale price and for a secondary system but that's about it.

PROS: Look decent (nice and shiny)

CONS: Gap left when screwed down is just too much - making plugs minimally useful

    Banana Plugs open screw

PROS: Excellent quality. Screws down tight for even the smallest of diameter ofwire. Plug is flared just right for a tight fit connection.

    CONS: none

    Great Banana plugs
These plugs are as good as anything I have ever used. One warning, if you use wire below 14 gauge you must tin the wire. Still, you should always tin the wire ends no matter what the wire gauge.

PROS: These are great. Makes moving around your gear so much easier. These are well made and well priced. Would buy again.

    Not sure...?
I'm giving these plugs 5 stars, buuuuuut.... I am not sure if the banana plugs were too small, or if the female ends on the wall plate were too big. I chose to just strip the wires and connect them through the traditional clam/screw connections at the wall plate. Now I have all of these banana plugs just sitting here...

    PROS: WORTH THE $$$$$

Thanks Michael for all your help.

    Good Stuff!
These banana plugs seem to be well built, and they do the job for a very reasonable price. I tinned the leads before I inserted them into the plugs to give the wire a bit more rigidity, and the tinned ends are holding up very well inside the plugs. Prior to tinning, I found that I was cutting through some of the individual strands when I tightened down on the wires. Maybe I was just tightening them too much, but tinning seems to have resolved the issue.

    Incredible Value
Very easy to use, excellent quality and an unbelievable price. Sometimes the fit into the speaker socket could be a little tight, but never a major issue. The connection to the speaker always worked well. A real bargain.

    Fabulous Bargain
For the price these connectors can' be beat. They are not the best connector ever but are certainly a very good one and at this price for a quality part you get way more for your money than anything else out there.

PROS: Gold plated for excellent connection and no corrosion or discoloration. Good quality construction.

CONS: I have bought and used quite a few of these. Sometimes you get one with rough threads. It will still be very usable just not as smooth when tightening it up.
