Can these be used for bi-wiring speakers?
    A shopper on Jan 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes...you can bi-wire. I bi-wire from my free-standing speaker to the speaker terminals on the back of my receiver.
Make sure that the red and black match from speaker to receiver/amplifier.

A must-have for thicker speaker wire
I got several of these to complement a spool of 14-gauge speaker wire (item 2791) to re-wire my sound system. These plugs are easy to use and worked great in my setup. The 14-gauge wire can actually be installed either on the side or through the cap itself (like with the closed-screw style plugs). Best of all, they cost 1/3 of comparable plugs at other retailers.

The specifications say they will fit up to 12-gauge wire, which is probably referring to a side installation. The 14-gauge wire is pretty snug when installed through the cap. I don't see how a 12-gauge would fit through it, unless you stripped away the sheath entirely and installed the bare wire. There should be no problem installing the 12-gauge wire in the open sides though.

A word of caution... The entire plug is made out of metal and is conductive. Be sure to trim any excess wire protruding from the side openings so you don't have any accidental contacts. A little bit of heat shrink tubing might also be a sensible precaution.

Great price, work great! A lot nicer than screwing everything into your stereo, especially if you have to rearrange or get in there periodically.

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but originally I stuck the wire through sideways, like on old stereo binding posts. But then I had to be careful that they didn't stick out much and hit each other when plugged in. I was much happier when I realized the back was open so I could stick the wire straight through the back and have the stripped end come out the side slightly. Now the wire had an "end" and there was little chance of hitting the adjacent one.

    They're small, cheap, and gold
Beyond that, they make my music SO much clearer, cleaner, and with more POP! Air, space, dynamic range, soundstage, highs, mids, lows, all are just cleaner and improved. It's amazing what $2 can do for your sound! And I've got this cream you can smear all over your stereo cabinet that improves sound too!

PROS: Small. Cheap. Look nice. Seem to work.

    don't slip on banana plugs...
These plugs cleaned up mythe home theatreand so now I'm dialed in. Best Buy wanted $20 a pair for Monster brand banana plugs. What a rip off! I got them from monoprice for less than $3.00 per pair. You do the math...

PROS: High quality easy to use alternative to Monster.

CONS: Standard shipping took damn near a fort night.

    Best choice for Banana Plugs
**Highly Reccomended** These OPEN SCREW TYPE banana plugs are better design than the other style of banana plugs on Monoprice. Your feed the speaker wire through the back then out the side and it screws in snug. I bought a few of the closed screw type as well and their connection is not nearly as secure as this type. The value is unbelievable, construction is excellent, and they fit snug into 2 different receivers and 2 different brands of speakers. Don't be afraid to buy these

    Ideal for Parallel Speaker connections
When connecting multiple speakers to the same binding posts on an amplifier (I had a passive subwoofer), I found these banana plugs to be more useful than the closed end ones. These put less stress on the end of the connection and keep the connectors straighter and less likely to short out when you need to connect one banana plug into the back of another. They also take up less room behind my amplifier, allowing me to gain a 1/2 inch or more of space. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it makes a difference in tight spots.

    The Real Deal
I came across monoprice, while searching for speaker wire. I found, some OFC at a great low price. It was even twisted properly. Low resistence, big time. Then added some of monoprices, gold plated copper banana plugs. Ran two pair piggy back. You can spend akot more. But, these follow ohm's law. Guess what? It works very well.

PROS: I purchased these banana plugs, because they're gold plated copper. Usually, and no one mentions this, they're gold plated bronze. The difference between bronze and copper in ohms and capacitance, is incredible. What we need in a speaker cable is the lowest resistence. These work. What a difference. Thankyou, R.Crane

CONS: None. They accept larger gauge wire. They also are non-problematic, Just tighten, plug in, listen. Simply put, they're the real deal. 10+ out of ten.

    Perfect for my installation needs
If you don't require a soldered plug, these are a perfect solution. I used mine to plug the speaker wires into my stereo. I found that having the speaker wire clamp into the plug at a perpendicular angle made it easier because I did not have that much room behind my stereo receiver and the back of my entertainment center (back wall). Just something to consider as you plan your installation

    PROS: Quality
    ease of use

    CONS: None
