Such a good question as i have the same. Hoping someone answers. I wish there was more documentation if that DP does passthrough the handshake for DP protocols.

That is most likely a software issue, and regardless of the hardware, it won't matter. Thunderbolt and USB-C and the devices this use are fairly standardized, and so just make sure your Linux supports those standards.

BEST ANSWER: It works. As mentioned by Steven R, charging can be slow, but I've never experienced the dock not being able to keep up with what the computer is drawing (although if you're maxing the processors for hours on end, this may be possible?). My only gripe that I'm experiencing (I posted a question about it as well) is that when the mac goes to sleep, the dock is shut off from the computer. So when waking the computer, you then have to wait for the all the connections from the dock to be re-established. I haven't tried using two monitors (only 1), but other reviewers have mentioned this is possible and it's also a described feature by Monoprice.

It will work but it will charge very slowly.
I just set this up with a 2019 MacBook Pro 16' and 2 DisplayPort monitors.
It doesn't have enough power to run an Apple SuperDrive from the USB port on the hub, it takes a very long time to charge a low battery, and it runs hot - but - all in all it works fairly well.

On my laptop (Thinkpad T480s, with latest thunderbolt drivers and a thunderbolt cable)) I cannot get dual monitors to both display in 4K, while in extend mode (1+2). BEST ANSWER: This may be a limitation of your laptop, not this dock. The Thunderbolt port on the T480s is 2-lane, not 4-lane, and so shouldn't support dual-4K via DisplayPort.. There are other docks that exist that can use DisplayLink to provide a second screen at 4K, but that isn't truly DisplayPort and can have performance issues.
So, in short: though this dock itself supports dual 4K@60Hz displays, your laptop does not.

Does this have mouse wake or will I need to keep my laptop open?
New User U
on Nov 22, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The dock just passes the signals from your input devices through to the computer. The feature you are talking about is configured in the power options on the laptop. If you need to keep your laptop open, then your laptop is likely set to go into hibernate or shutdown upon the lid being closed, which is why it will not wake up when you move the mouse. You should set this option to "do nothing" or "sleep" to achieve your desired configuration.

Is anyone using this successfully with macOS Monterey? It worked fine under Big Sur for me, but under Monterey (on a 2020 Intel MacBook Pro), the dock only works after rebooting until you disconnect the first time. After you disconnect and reconnect the Thunderbolt 3 cable, the DisplayPort and charging works, but none of the USB connected stuff (including the ethernet, which is on the USB bus in the dock) shows back up on the Mac. You have to reboot to get it to recognize the USB on the dock again.

BEST ANSWER: On my 2018 (Intel, since M1 didn't exist then) MacBook Pro on Monterey, it seems to work without issue even with reconnecting.
Have you tried connecting to a different port and seeing what happens? What happens if instead of rebooting, you put your laptop to sleep and wake it up?

Great price
Works as advertised and is much more convenient than a ton of a cables. Only thing that would make it better for me is another usb c port or two with faster charging capabilities (for phone/bt headset)

Great value and performance for 2x 4K60 DP dock
Worked as expected, cleaned up my workstation (only need 1 wire plugged into M1 MBP), dual 4K displays and fast charging.

Great value and lots of features
I bought this hub to replace a CalDigit TS3+ that had started to have issues (was the 3rd or 4th one CalDigit had RMA'd for me). It is still early, but so far I think this hub provides the best value for a USB-C hub I have seen. Loads of features. Works great w/ a MacBook Pro 13" 2020.

Works well for M1 MBP for dual display
All I am looking for is a docking solution that allows me to connect two 1080p monitors to my MBP and charge at the same time using a single cable. I tried the famous CalDigit TS3 plus. The main display via display link worked well but the second display via an Apple media adapter and HDMI failed to be recognized 30% of the time when I reconnect my laptop to the dock. I need disconnect and reconnect the adapter or the dock to make the second screen to work. It was probably the Apple HDMI adapter that caused the issue. Nevertheless, I switched to this Monoprice TB3 dock and connected both monitor via DisplayLink, the issue goes a way. Like other described, the temperature of the dock is a bit hot and it only charges my laptop at 60W. However, those are issues I can live with. Not to mention this is much cheaper than many other docks. It would be great if it can have a few more USB-C ports in future versions.

Great value for money
Bought this for its value vs price. most Thunderbolt docking stations are either very expensive from good brands or cheap from no name brands on amazon. This docking station works very well with my Dell Precision and XPS laptops. I can use 2 external displays, an 32 in LG 4K monitor and a 24in Dell 1080p monitor along with the laptop display with no problem at all. Only drawback is the dock has just 4 USB ports. That is an easy fix with a USB hub.
I Just wish monoprice would make some reasonably priced displays for business use.

Not compatible with Apple MacBook Air 2
Doesn't work whatsoever (other than charging) of a brand-new Apple MacBook Air M2. Tech support was not helpful and couldn't give a clear answer or not. I tried everything but it just won't work with the MackBook Air M2. It does work with an older HP Windows laptop, and only half-works with a Lenovo laptop. Overall I would NOT recommend this dock as it's just not reliable to justify the high price.

Competent Performer
This docking station works well for Macbook M1Pro. I use the Displayport for one external monitor and the ethernet port via a single TB3 connection which also keeps the MBP charged. Total number of ports is limited, as per specs of the dock, but it fills my needs for at least $100-200 less than reputable alternatives.
