Such a good question as i have the same. Hoping someone answers. I wish there was more documentation if that DP does passthrough the handshake for DP protocols.

BEST ANSWER: It works. As mentioned by Steven R, charging can be slow, but I've never experienced the dock not being able to keep up with what the computer is drawing (although if you're maxing the processors for hours on end, this may be possible?). My only gripe that I'm experiencing (I posted a question about it as well) is that when the mac goes to sleep, the dock is shut off from the computer. So when waking the computer, you then have to wait for the all the connections from the dock to be re-established. I haven't tried using two monitors (only 1), but other reviewers have mentioned this is possible and it's also a described feature by Monoprice.

It will work but it will charge very slowly.
I just set this up with a 2019 MacBook Pro 16' and 2 DisplayPort monitors.
It doesn't have enough power to run an Apple SuperDrive from the USB port on the hub, it takes a very long time to charge a low battery, and it runs hot - but - all in all it works fairly well.

Low wattage USB-C ports on back, MBP error message with iPad Pro 11”
Using this with my 2020 MacBook Pro M1. Mostly I like this device, it charges the MPB, connects to my 7 port USB hub (keyboard, mouse, webcam), RJ45 Ethernet port, all work fine. My trouble is with the USB-C ports on the back. As advertised, the 2 USB-C connectors on the back DO NOT supply high wattage (competitors supply 12W or 15W). The problem I have is with connecting an iPad Pro 11” via USB-C to USB-C cable while the dock is connected to the MBP. When the iPad is first connected all is good and the iPad charges for a while, but after a few mins the MBP shows an error message “Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices.” It would be fine for me if the iPad would just slow charge and stay connected, but this error message popping up means I can’t connect the iPad to the dock while the dock is also connected to the MBP. Hope this helps someone else!

Works perfectly but I have two issues
I bought this to connect my HP Spectre x360 to my two LG 27UK850-W 27" 4K monitors and this works perfectly. It supports both at 4K @ 60Hz and charges the laptop at the same time. There are two issues that I'd like to see changed. First, the supplied Thunderbolt 3 cable is only 18" long, it would better if the cable was at least 2 feet long. Second, it would be nice if one of the USB C ports was located on the front of the case.

Works mostly as expected, but ...
I connected this to my MacBook Pro with the supplied USB-C cable. I easily connected ethernet, USB keyboard, and DisplayPort monitor. However, the audio port on this dock only supports headphones with the built in mic (three rings on the connector). It does NOT support regular headphones or speakers with a standard stereo (two ring) 3.5mm plug. My display does have an audio out so I could connect my speakers to that. Unfortunately, the volume control on the Mac is disabled with that configuration so you have to manage audio via individual apps. If you plan to use the audio out with a headphone/mic setup, you should be good. Regular speakers, not so much.

A great Thunderbolt hub for the most part
It helps tremendously if you want better cable management and a cleaner setup. Unfortunately, sometimes the USB 3.0 ports won't respond right away and I have to reconnect the plug to get it working again. It does require external power.

Very Pleased
Bought it for my RB15. I have a 1440p 144hz (through DP), keyboard, mouse, my Canon T6, Zoom H1, and headphones all plugged in for some streaming and I've had no issues. Though there seems to be an issue with fans revving up when any Thunderbolt 3 dock is plugged in, but that's a laptop/fan control "thing". I haven't tried the ethernet port on it yet, but so far I'm really pleased with how this dock.

It does what it says
The dock does what it's supposed to. Personally I'd have preferred the audio out/in and the thunderbolt 3 port on the back of the dock rather than the front; that's more a setup situational comment however.
The reason for 4 stars:
- The power brick is way larger than it needs to be. Though it's nice that it's in line rather than on the outlet. Glad it didn't take up more room on the power strip.
- The display ports can only seem to do 60 Hz regardless of resolution, which seems super super strange to me. Would much rather have just had a standard display port 1.2-1.4. Kind of situational certainly, but keeping everything to the DP standard would make it more reliable with other devices.
Other than that it's well built, does what it says it's gonna do.

Works as advertised, but computer sometimes heats up
It's a nice solid-looking device, ports work reliably, and I love the clean look and convenience of being able to hook up the computer with one cord. Particularly like keeping my desktop speakers hooked up to this, and it all just works.
One issue I am not super pleased about is that the fans randomly kick on and computer gets hot when this is hooked up — did not happen with my old Apple three-port dongle.
One other thing to note is that the USB C ports in the device are not suitable for fast charging phones and other devices. Power output seems to be 5-10w range. I realize it'd need more power, but it would be awesome if those could kick out USB PD standard.
