Select Series USB-C to HDMI Adapter

USB-C is here and it is a real game changer!

    • New reversible Type C connector plugs in the first time, every time!
    • Use a single cable for power, video, networking, and data
    • USB 3.1 SuperSpeed+ supports up to 10Gbps data rate
    • Charge and power devices with up to 100 watts of power

Until this point we've had to deal with a number of different USB connector types with different shapes and sizes. One thing that is common among all the various USB Type A and Type B connectors is that they are all asymmetrical, which means that there is a top and a bottom, as anyone who has fumbled around trying to insert a USB cable by feel can attest. The old USB standards are also relatively slow and can carry very little charging power.

The USB 3.1 standard introduces the new symmetrical/reversible Type C connector. The new connector is only slightly larger than the older mini and micro Type B connectors, which means that it can be used on mobile devices, replacing the existing use of mini or micro connectors. Also, unlike the earlier use of different connectors for the host (Type A) and peripheral (Type B) devices, the Type C connector is used at both ends. Best of all, the connector is symmetrical, which means no more fumbling around to figure out which side is supposed to be on top. Just grab either end and plug it in!

In addition to the new connector, the USB 3.1 standard increases the data transfer rate to 10GBps, which is fast enough to carry full HD video and multichannel, uncompressed audio. The standard also increases the power handling capabilities to 100 watts, which means that USB C will replace existing power, video, networking, and data cables. Apple is taking this to the extreme, with the latest MacBook Air® featuring only a single USB C port for charging, video, and connecting peripheral devices.

This 4-inch video adapter features a male Type C connector on one end and a female HDMI connector on the other end.

will this work with usb c phone connectors so i can hook it up to watch movies and stream tv shows?
    A shopper on Apr 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Depends on the device. The device needs to be DisplayPort Alternate Mode capable. Many are, but not all. Google's Pixel phone will NOT work since Google decided to not add the Alternate Mode standard. For Pixel owners, there's always the Chromecast... Please Google your phone model with "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" to see if it is compatible.

can I connect this to a standard usb port and standard hdmi cable?
    A shopper on Sep 14, 2017

Will this work in the Thunderbolt 3 port on the new iMac?
    A shopper on Jun 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In theory, it should work, but I'll be able to answer definitively when my adapter arrives. The Thunderbolt 3 port in the new iMacs and MacBook Pros is compatible with USB 3.1 and should pass it through natively.
Anyone else experiencing flaky connections on the 2016 MacBook Pro? This is the only USB-C computer I have access to so it's hard to narrow down the source of the problem to adapter/computer/cable/monitor.
    A shopper on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have a Retina MacBook. I have at times had "no signal" at the TV until I unplugged the cable from the computer and plugged it back in. That always seem to work.

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 2016 with four thunderbolt 3 ports. What cables do I use to connect to hdmi port on tv? I purchased a mini display port to hdmi cable on the assurances that it would definitely work but I think that's only for a Thunderbolt 2 type port. Can anyone help?

    Works with LG G5
I recently got this in the mail anf tested it briefly with my LG phone. It worked as the support person said it would with my phone. Haven't watched a full movie on it to see battery use and uses the same port as the charger, but at least I can watch a movie rather than using my roku stick tethering with wifi (was a big battery hog)

    PROS: Works as advertised

CONS: No additional charging cable option

Worked on MBPro 15" Late 2016
Plugged one end into a MBPro 15" Late 2016 model Macos 10.12.3 and the other end into an HDMI Redmere cable, and it worked.

The projector announced: 1080p 60Hz, and we were good to go.

    Works great.
I use this to plug in an additional display on my new MacBook pro. It has worked flawlessly so far.

Mac users: Only glitch I ran into was that it when you first plug it in, the HDMI display speakers will automatically take over. This isn't a limitation from the adapter, it is just a software issue. Change your preferences on the audio setup and everything works great.
