Will this adapter work with the 2016 MacBook pro (USB-C) port and the mini-Display port connector (Thunderbolt 2) on my Apple 27-inch Cinema Display?
    A shopper on Nov 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This is incorrect. Thunderbolt 2 looks like Mini-DVI but is NOT. So a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter will not run your display.

Has anyone confirmed if this works with the latest 2016 MacBooks? I see a lot of adapters like this on amazon not work with the newest 2016 MacBooks.

Does this adapter supply power to the USB C?
    Paul S on Nov 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe DisplayPort can supply power, so I wouldn't count on it.

BEST ANSWER: Sorry, this will not be possible. The Apple Thunderbolt display uses the Mini DisplayPort connector, but it is not a DisplayPort connection. In the same way, Thunderbolt 3 uses the USB-C connector, but is not a USB-C connection. In other words, just because the connectors fit doesn't mean it will work. The Macbook 12" has USB-C only, not Thunderbolt 3 (the type that uses the USB-C connector). While there is a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and the connectors will all fit together nicely, it will not work because the Macbook 12" doesn't support Thunderbolt 3, just USB-C. That being said, a computer with Thunderbolt 3 (like the 2016 MAcbook Pro) can use the adapter to connect to the older Thunderbolt display. It's confusing because the adapters look the same, so I hope this helps.
Is there anyone with a Dell XPS (9350, 9360, 9550, 9560) for whom this is actually working?

Can this adapter be used with DisplayPort MST hubs (multiple DisplayPort monitors from 1 DisplayPort port)?
    A shopper on Dec 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I only assume it would, as it sends a perfect signal from a usb-c thought to a displayPort cable. It does this as if it were natively a single cable. You would still need to use the MST hub, obviously to then connect multiple monitors.
Is this cable bidirectional? Can I connect this to a full-size displayport output (from the Select Series USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter) to a minidp port on my monitor? If so, is there any disadvantage to doing this?

Monoprice Select Series Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DisplayPort 4K Capable Cable, 1.5ft
Monoprice Select Series Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DisplayPort 4K Capable Cable, 1.5ft
BEST ANSWER: MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort is just a straight through cable since all the signals are the same (doesn't matter if the connectors are male or female). That means it's bidirectional. You should be able to use it with the USB-C (alt-mode) to DisplayPort adapter to connect your computer with USB-C (alt-mode) port to a display with Mini DisplayPort input.

You can chain multiple DisplayPort/Mini DisplayPort adapters together. It's a digital signal, so there would need to be a lot of noise before a problem in the signal causes display artifacts, but fewer adapters in the chain is better.
I am hoping to use this plus the DisplayPort => Mini DisplayPort cable to use an iMac in Target Display Mode. Has anyone successfully achieved this, with this or other adapters, from a late 2016 MacBook Pro?

Monoprice 3ft 32AWG Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable - White
Monoprice 3ft 32AWG Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable - White
BEST ANSWER: It depends on which iMac. According to Apple's document HT204592, "Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode", only 3 categories of iMacs support Target Display Mode: iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), iMac (Mid 2011-Mid 2014). All of those three can use Thunderbolt for Target Display Mode. Only the first two (2009, 2010) will work with DisplayPort. The 2011-2014 models require Thunderbolt. For Thunderbolt, you'll want the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable. Note that the Thunderbolt adapter does not pass DisplayPort signals, so you may want the DisplayPort adapter anyway to use non-Thunderbolt displays.
Has anyone tried connecting two monitors using one adaptor and then daisy chaining the monitors together?
    Rob C on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have tried this with the new 2016 MacBook Pro 15" and the monitors will only mirror each other. You cannot extend the desktop across both. To get an extended desktop you will need two adaptors and use two of the USB-C ports.

Some PC display cards do support this option, if the Monitors support DisplayPort 1.2 and you may have to enable MST on your monitors. I have no first hand experience with this though.
Is this adapter supposed to be bi-directional? Meaning connecting the display port end to a computer and output to the USB-C end to a monitor.

    Works with some laptops
The adapter seems to work great with most hardware. Was able to connect an Acer Aspire V15 Nitro with a Thunderbolt 3 port to several different Dell DisplayPort monitors without any issues. Was even able to take advantage of MST for daisy-chained operation. However the adapter does not function with my Dell XPS 15 (9550) which also has a Thunderbolt 3 port. It appears to install, but no image is ever able to be displayed after troubleshooting with both Dell and Monoprice and replacing the laptop's hardware components.

PROS: Works well - seamlessly even - when it does work. Works with lots of monitors and MST/HBR2 features.

CONS: Incompatible with the Dell XPS 15 (9550). This is possibly an issue on Dell's end with the Thunderbolt controller, but neither Dell nor Monoprice can offer any solutions.

    Excellent Adapter
I ordered this adapter to connect amy Acer V15 Nitro with a USB-C port to my old 2009 27" iMac, so with the addition of a Mini Display Port to Display Port 1.2 Cable from the same company I had the perfect connection for my setup. This adapter performed well right away and it looked high quality. I had a nice 27" display of my 15" laptop at the full resolution of the Mac and I was able to turn the lap screen off or on.

    PROS: Works well
    Looks very nice
    Fits is tight, no play
    Price is fair

Works nicely with NUC6I7KYK and 4K monitor (27MU67-B)
Thanks to this little cable I can have dual-4K setup with NUC and Ubuntu 16.04.1: 2x 3840x2160 60Hz
Tried with both 4K and 2.5K monitors - all fine.

PROS: It works well with 4K @60Hz

CONS: Some rattling in the case at the DisplayPort side. It does not impair functionality at all but gives an impression of a cheap product.

    Works with 2016 MacBook Pro
Bought this to connect a MacBook Pro with USB-C to my existing external display which is a 2560x1440 monitor with only a Dual-Link DVI input. I have this adapter connected to a Monoprice PID 6904 Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI converter (there is a DP to miniDP adapter between). Was skeptical it would all work, but there are no problems at all.

    Works with XPS 9560
Outputs fine at 1920x1200. Haven't tested yet with higher resolution yet. The main annoyance is that it connects as a PTN5002 usb device, so you get the usb chimes everytime you connect and disconnect.
