Questions and Answers
You can chain multiple DisplayPort/Mini DisplayPort adapters together. It's a digital signal, so there would need to be a lot of noise before a problem in the signal causes display artifacts, but fewer adapters in the chain is better.
Some PC display cards do support this option, if the Monitors support DisplayPort 1.2 and you may have to enable MST on your monitors. I have no first hand experience with this though.
PROS: Works well - seamlessly even - when it does work. Works with lots of monitors and MST/HBR2 features.
CONS: Incompatible with the Dell XPS 15 (9550). This is possibly an issue on Dell's end with the Thunderbolt controller, but neither Dell nor Monoprice can offer any solutions.
PROS: Works well
Looks very nice
Fits is tight, no play
Price is fair
Tried with both 4K and 2.5K monitors - all fine.
PROS: It works well with 4K @60Hz
CONS: Some rattling in the case at the DisplayPort side. It does not impair functionality at all but gives an impression of a cheap product.

Works perfectly with both my 2017 12" MacBook and my 2017 27" iMac 5K. The 2017 part is important because it seems Apple has changed something about their USBC implementation in 2017, as various types of adapters that worked properly with the 2016 don't necessarily work with the 2017.
