Is this the same product as Staples USB parallel printer adapter?
    A shopper on Feb 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi, this cable should be a good alternative for that cable and uses standard USB and Parallel printer connectors. Thanks for checking.

    Worked on the First Try
I bought a thermal receipt printer on Ebay to use in one of my projects, not knowing what to expect of it. It has a parallel interface, so I bought this cable because I use modern computers. Not only was I very surprised to find it works with both MacOSX and Linux with ZERO config, I was also shocked to find it worked with my strange thermal printer with zero config and zero tinkering. It's also very reliable under Ubuntu Linux. If it gets unplugged, print jobs queue up and they print right out immediately after the adapter is reconnected, regardless of which USB port it ends up plugged into. It's a winner.

    PROS: MacOS X compatible
    Linux compatible
    Thermal Printer compatible

    USB to Parallel Converter Cable
I already covered everything in the pros and cons, however, this field is required so here is my story.

I bought my mother a new Windows 8 computer for her 80th birthday. She has an HP 4L printer that she has enjoyed using since she bought it in the mid 1990s. I recently bought a new toner cartridge for it and it still prints fast and sharp. I figured it was worth a try to get the 4L to work with her new PC.

I attached this converter cable and a USB extension cable to the printer and then to the PC. Windows detected new hardware and installed the driver. I printed a test page and all is well. I was pleased that it was so simple. I thought that I might have to download a driver and do some configuring to get everything to work.

My mother is happy which makes me happy. It was a good visit.

I will definitely be ordering from Monoprice again.

I am sorry that I did not have the time to write a short, concise review.

PROS: Appears to be well made and comes attractively packaged. It was plug and play with Windows 8 and a mid 1990s vintage HP 4L laser printer. My order was securely packaged and rapidly shipped.

CONS: A longer version of this cable would be a nice option. I used the Monoprice 3ft USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Extension Cable to achieve to required length. The CN36 connector on this cable is a little thicker than the one on the original cable and prevents the cable access door from completely closing on an ancient HP 4L. Not really a con, but just be aware of this fact when using this cable with certain printers.

I bought the “USB to parallel” converter cable trying to make my HP Deskjet 710C to work with my pc. However, I was very disappointed to find out that it failed to work. I called the company and was told that the cable driver does not support Windows 8. Unfortunately, that important piece of information was not stated in the product description when I placed my order online.

    Not working with Windows 8.1
Drivers that came with the cable have no compatibility with Windows 8. Windows could not properly identify the printer, no communication between the PC and printer. Tried to manually install drivers with no luck. Buy a parallel card for new PC's if a parallel connection is needed.

PROS: Half the price of a parallel card.

CONS: Doesn't work with Windows 8.1

Works well for my old HP Laserjet 2100
I needed a way to connect my old (but perfectly working) HP 2100 Laser Printer to my Laptop and Desktop that no longer comes with printer ports and this device did the trick. I plug one end into the printer, and the other in the PC, and the drivers are natively installed under windows 7. The speed is great and the price of the adapter is $15 cheaper than the local computer store in Toronto (not to mention much better build quality).

In the end, I found a used HP Jetdirect 620n Fast Ethernet Print Server (J7934G) and now connect my laser printer to my router so this usb/parallel cable is a backup device.

    Thanks Monoprice!

PROS: - Works with my old HP Laserjet 2100

    - Easy Installation under Windows 7

    - Reasonably priced

CONS: None - it works as designed.

    Cable for older HP LaserJet
Was originally running my older HP LaserJet and Ink Jet printers thru a print server to my home networked computer. After the Ink Jet bit the dust I decided to economize and simplify the setup.
The cable plugged into the HP's CN36 parallet port perfectly and the USB connection now makes hookup quick and easy.
    No problems at all.

    PROS: * Quick Shipping
    * Excellent Price

    CONS: * None

Item arrived quickly. Used this cable to hook up an old printer to new computer that didn't have a parallel port. The cable worked fine.

PROS: Worked Exactly as Expected, was able to connect Parallel Printer to USB Windows 7 PC

CONS: Wasnt able to get the Printer to share correctly when on a remote desktop session but I didnt expect this, was enough of a pain when the printer was connect when parallel. Not taking any stars off for this
