CONS: Doesn't work with Windows 8.1
I bought my mother a new Windows 8 computer for her 80th birthday. She has an HP 4L printer that she has enjoyed using since she bought it in the mid 1990s. I recently bought a new toner cartridge for it and it still prints fast and sharp. I figured it was worth a try to get the 4L to work with her new PC.
I attached this converter cable and a USB extension cable to the printer and then to the PC. Windows detected new hardware and installed the driver. I printed a test page and all is well. I was pleased that it was so simple. I thought that I might have to download a driver and do some configuring to get everything to work.
My mother is happy which makes me happy. It was a good visit.
I will definitely be ordering from Monoprice again.
I am sorry that I did not have the time to write a short, concise review.
PROS: Appears to be well made and comes attractively packaged. It was plug and play with Windows 8 and a mid 1990s vintage HP 4L laser printer. My order was securely packaged and rapidly shipped.
CONS: A longer version of this cable would be a nice option. I used the Monoprice 3ft USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Extension Cable to achieve to required length. The CN36 connector on this cable is a little thicker than the one on the original cable and prevents the cable access door from completely closing on an ancient HP 4L. Not really a con, but just be aware of this fact when using this cable with certain printers.
In the end, I found a used HP Jetdirect 620n Fast Ethernet Print Server (J7934G) and now connect my laser printer to my router so this usb/parallel cable is a backup device.
PROS: - Works with my old HP Laserjet 2100
- Easy Installation under Windows 7
- Reasonably priced
CONS: None - it works as designed.
The cable plugged into the HP's CN36 parallet port perfectly and the USB connection now makes hookup quick and easy.
No problems at all.
PROS: * Quick Shipping
* Excellent Price
CONS: * None
PROS: Item arrived quickly. Used this cable to hook up an old printer to new computer that didn't have a parallel port. The cable worked fine.
CONS: None i can think of.
PROS: Worked Exactly as Expected, was able to connect Parallel Printer to USB Windows 7 PC
CONS: Wasnt able to get the Printer to share correctly when on a remote desktop session but I didnt expect this, was enough of a pain when the printer was connect when parallel. Not taking any stars off for this
PROS: Quick Service, affordable prices, great followups
CONS: product con: would be nice to be plug n play.......
PROS: Works perfectly with no drivers to install (Windows 7 does everything)
