USB 2.0 Ultrabook Ethernet Adapter ( Low Power )

Quickly and easily add a 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet to your PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer with this Low Power USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter from Monoprice!

This adapter plugs into any available USB port and provides an Ethernet connection, complying with the IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u standards. The adapter is on the end of a short length of cable, so the adapter size won't interfere with other ports or connections on your computer. The adapter was originally designed for ultra-book class computers, so it draws significantly less power than traditional Ethernet adapters.

The adapter is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. It is also compatible with all versions of the Apple Mac OSX 10.x. The adapter supports both full and half-duplex operations, as well as suspend mode and remote wakeup via link-up and magic packet.

Will this work with Windows 10?
    Romeo S on Jul 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes it should. Although the 3.0 would be a better choice for higher speeds than 10/100. the 3.0 does work with windows 10, but the company doesn't give that support. I found out on my own, that my lap-top ethernet card is limited in speed. The 2.0 didn't allow the higher speed to pass, but the 3.0 workers perfectly @ 162.8 mps.
Do you need a driver on the latest Windows OS? (as of 9/2017)

USB Nettwork adapter works GREAT w/Mac OSX 10.9
This product is advertised as working with all versions of Windows through Windows 7 and all versions of Mac OS X 10.5 and above. The drivers included on the CD were written for version 10.6 to 10.8 and at first the unit would not work with Mavericks (10.9). I called Monoprice's excellent Support people and was provided with a link for the latest drivers from the chip manufacturer. The driver was written Dec 15, 2014 and says it works with Mavericks and with Yosemite. You need these drivers from ASIX for the AX88772B chip for these OS versions. It works great! [The current link for drivers is http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=105]

PROS: Vert fast internet service through USB3 port.

CONS: Drivers were not included with the product in the first place, but I was given a link to them by Support

Works great with 10.9 with the new drivers
Works great with Macs after you get the driver version 2.2.0 from this website http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=86

Prior to that, even with the older drivers it wouldn't work with Mavericks

    PROS: Cheap, well made

CONS: I had it for about a month before drivers that worked with Mavericks 10.9 were released

USB 2.0 Ultrabook Ethernet Adapter not Yosemite OSX Compatible
Would not work with OS X Yosemite. (OS X 10.10). Driver installed, but computer cannot detect port.

PROS: Cheap, and easy to use with a Windows 7 or 8 PC.

CONS: Does not work with OS X 10.10

    USB 2.0 Low-power Ethernet Adapter
I ordered this knowing that it did not work with OS X Mavericks out of the box. I downloaded the driver from the manufacturers website (asix.tw), Installed it, rebooted and I was off and running with Ethernet connectivity.

I'm writing this review while connected via this dongle. Since the website is not really English friendly, here is a direct link to the driver download. Scroll to the bottom of the page where it says Drivers. Mac OS X 10.9 is the first driver listed. It is a version 1.0 driver released back in November 2013. It would be a good idea to check back later to see if they revise the driver.

    Driver Link: http://www.asix.com.tw/products.php?op=pItemdetail&PItemID=10571101&PLine=71

It would be nice if Monoprice provided this link for its customers - so non-technical people dont have to go on a wild driver hunt.

Lastly, my Macbook Air doesn't seem to have any issue(s) after installing the driver. No hangs or freezes. I just swallowed a huge OS X 10.9.1 update - no problemo. The installer package does have an uninstaller in the event you need to back the driver out.

PROS: Excellent price. I like that it is low power. I like it !!!

CONS: Did not work with my new MacBook Air with OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) out of the box. But I knew this from reading the reviews.

    Perfect for Chromebook Enterprise Enrollment
Very happy with this transaction - we purchased these to cut out the step of connecting to WiFi when enrolling our Acer C720's to our domain. Sped up an already speedy process! Price was reasonable & arrived when we needed it.

    PROS: Price, Shipping

    CONS: None

    great item
One of the best purchases I've made on Monoprice. It's worked everywhere I've tried it. Low power must be true as it has next to no heat output (especially compared to some others) Based on the ASIX AX88772B (0b95:772b) Even Raspberry Pi works.

    I highly recommend this.

PROS: Worked out of the box. Supported in Linux out of the box. Works on chromebooks too, including my Samsung ARM based one. Does not get more than just mildly warm. I can get darn near 90Mbs out of it with tests.

CONS: Yet to run into anything. I wish Monoprice would put chipset info on their product pages. Wii?

    10.9 osx solution
While the drivers listed will not wokr (MONOPRICE - UPDATE THEM!), you can find tin the manual that this model for this, from the AX site, is AX88178. Going to their site and searching will help: http://www.asix.com.tw/search.php

Direct link to the proper 10.9 file for AX88178 (not 88178A)

    Excellent Value
This device is an excellent value. It won't add an Ethernet port to your iPAD but will give you a second Ethernet port on any Windows laptop.

PROS: Great performance, low price, low power consumption

    CONS: Nothing
