Decent, but don't get it for a macbook
This product works as a hub, however a word of warning. To anyone who may be buying this for a macbook or other apple product thinking it will power your line in, it won't.

For those who don't know, Macbooks do not have a microphone in, but instead a line in. The problem is that a line in is not powered, and therefore any non external powered microphones will not work. I purchased this on the off chance that the USB power would power the mic in as well but unfortunately it does not.

Also there is only a few inch distance between the two USB outs, that connect from the hub to the computer. So if you plan on using this for a laptop and the USB ports aren't on the same side, you're going to need an extension.

This product works as a hub, but I assumed incorrectly the compatibility with OSX meant a little more than it did. If you're like me looking for a cheap solution to the "Line In" problem, this unfortunately is not it.

PROS: Works as a good extension
Does indeed work on OSX, even with an extension

CONS: USB cables are too short for a laptop with USB ports on either side.
Power from USB does not power the Mic in
Blue light is as bright as my mouse laser.

A pretty good little device, I got it to move the USB and audio ports on the side of my computer from the enclosed space to a more accessible area. It is well made for the price, and I haven't had any problems with any of the ports, I can charge my ipod and phone through it, and the sound works great.

There's a blue light on it that never turns off, and it fits pretty loosely in what I believe is a standard size hole (I didn't have a spare grommet) but these are minor concerns.

    PROS: Works well, very handy

CONS: Blue light never turns off, seems to need a grommet to fit correctly (may not be cons for you)

    A clever and useful device...
Overall, this was a much needed and very useful accessory. I found it very helpful in my desk layout.

PROS: Clever design, adequately configured ports, easy to install and use. It was my experience that the plugs which attach to my laptop were positioned perfectly (Dell Inspiron), and I had ample room to plug in the audio/mic/USB connectors, all side-by-side without any problems.

CONS: Could use a USB 3.0 version, if it were available. There are no instructions as to what specifically goes where, so I'm only guessing that the second USB male connector is used to supplement additional power demands, as described in the product info, above.

    Don't buy this
As convenient as it is to have audio/mic jacks and some USB ports on the top of your desk, the layout of the jacks/ports and the poor quality of the USB ports ultimately make this thing a piece of garbage.

PROS: Fits snugly into a standard cable pass-through in typical office desks

CONS: Uses up two USB ports in your computer in order to give you three ports when it should only take up one.
The audio and mic jacks are very close to one of the USB ports, making it impossible to plug in even typical-sized audio/mic plugs when you have something plugged into that USB port.
The USB ports are very loose. You can easily cause the connection to fail just by brushing up against whatever cable you have plugged into it.

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello Don,

Sorry for the issues you ran into with the USB hub. If you like I can issue an RMA for a return, I would just need an order number to get things started. Again my apologies things didn't work out. If you have any other questions or concerns please let us know.

    Pass this one by
I bought this to add USB ports to my new desk, so that I could have a few handy w/o having to put another peripheral on my desk (it's already crowded).

First thing I noticed that a non-metric hole saw isn't close enough I went too big (my fault) so it's shimmed in place with some cardboard. Make sure you either have holes already that size or can get a metric hole saw before buying.

My major complaint is that the USB ports are very loose!! I had to use a small screw driver to bend them in so that they would hold connection with my cables. I've had to adjust one or two at least one more time since. I can't recommend this based on this alone. I hope mine is a fluke (note, i have not tried to contact Monoprice to correct this yet.).

PROS: easy access to more USB ports

    CONS: Ports Loose
hard to find metric hole saw

    Works just as advertised.
I purchased this the other day as my wife misplaced her charging cable for her waterproof MP3 player that she goes swimming with. It was a USB to 1/8 " audio jack. It works great so nothing to say other than another Monoprice product that works just like it should!
