    Until this point we've had to deal with a number of different USB connector types with different shapes and sizes. One thing that is common among all the various USB Type A and Type B connectors is that they are all asymmetrical, which means that there is a top and a bottom, as anyone who has fumbled around trying to insert a USB cable by feel can attest. The old USB standards are also relatively slow and can carry very little charging power.

    The USB 3.1 standard introduces the new symmetrical/reversible Type C connector. The new connector is only slightly larger than the older mini and micro Type B connectors, which means that it can be used on mobile devices, replacing the existing use of mini or micro connectors. Also, unlike the earlier use of different connectors for the host (Type A) and peripheral (Type B) devices, the Type C connector is used at both ends. Best of all, the connector is symmetrical, which means no more fumbling around to figure out which side is supposed to be on top. Just grab either end and plug it in!

    In addition to the new connector, the USB 3.1 standard increases the data transfer rate to 10GBps, which is fast enough to carry full HD video and multichannel, uncompressed audio. The standard also increases the power handling capabilities to 100 watts, which means that USB C will replace existing power, video, networking, and data cables. Apple is taking this to the extreme, with the latest MacBook Air® featuring only a single USB C port for charging, video, and connecting peripheral devices.

    Can't use for Target Disk Mode in new MacBook
    The description erroneously mentions some generic info about USB 3.1 standard, which has nothing to do with this cable. This caused many review sites to suggest that this cable would work in Target Disk Mode with the USB-C connector on the new Apple MacBook. I see this was addressed in a response to a customer review, but the USB3.1 description has not removed from the item descriptionI suggest it be removed to avoid confusion.

    PROS: Good quality, great for what it is intended for.

    CONS: Conflicting descriptions suggest that this may support USB3.1, but it is in fact only USB 2.0 and thus will not work for Targeted Disk Mode for the 2015 Apple MacBook.

    Works well with Nexus 5X
    I am using this cable to charge my Nexus 5X using the Monoprice 4 Port USB Wall Charger 4.2A for Apple® and Android™ http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=10240 as well as data transfer for Macbook Air. The cable works well for both uses. Cable is high quality, same standards as the cable packed with the device.

    PROS: - High quality

    - Charges the device well

    - Data transfer with PC/MAC works well

    CONS: - Though USB-C, this is a "charging cable" that supports only USB 2.0 so max transfer rate is 480mbps. The new Nexus 5X and 6P only support USB 2.0 transfer speeds so not an issue for those devices.

    A safe, effective USB-C cable
    I just happened to buy this cable from Monoprice because I use and trust their cables. Then I read about the issues with some other companies' USB-C cables and felt like I dodged a bullet! I've been using the cable for a few months and everything's great.

    Perfect for my needs
    New Google Nexus 5X only came with a single USB-C cable to plug into the power supply, but no other adapters or cables. But wanted to plug into my laptop USB-A port rather than use another wall/power-strip outlet.

    PROS: Worked great to plug USB-C to my laptop USB-A port. Perfect length for my desk. Perfect length to use in car, for same purpose.

    The cord is quite thick and sturdy looking. The build seems very nice. Works perfectly to charge my Nexus 5X from my computer. Not sure if it does the charging rapidly thing since I don't have another adapter to plug it in. Overall, very happy with the cord...less happy with the price since I need lots of these cords.

    Works as advertised
    Exactly what I expected from Monoprice cables.

    PROS: Standard cable. Doesn't feel cheap. Gives the same satisfying click as the stock USB-C cable that came with my Nexus 5x

    Exactly what is expected.
    It's a standard cable that has a 2.0 USC-C connector on one end and a USB-A connector on the other end. Is exactly as expected and seems sturdy/well made

    PROS: Well made

    Cable Sticking
    The usb-c end got stuck in my nexus 5x. i felt like i was going to break the inside of the nexus 5x with how hard i had to pull. like an idiot i reversed and tried the other side of the cable to see if it would make any difference. Nope, still stuck like super-glue. I'm now afraid to continue using this cable d/t the sticking. don't they have size standards for the male and female ends of the new standard? maybe cut 2-3 mils from the size?

    PROS: Looks sturdy.

    Cheapest for the quality.

    CONS: USB-C end sticking.

    Didn't get a chance to test charging speed/reliability d/t sticking phenomenon.

    Bought this cable to connect my new MacBook One to an external battery pack when traveling. Works exactly like it should - charges the laptop with no issues. Not sure what else can be said about a USB cable. :)

    Great quality
    Great quality cable. Before ordering this, I ordered a cheapy from Amazon, it lasted about 10 minutes before the end broke off, had to send it back. This cable is excellent - I've been successfully abusing it for a few weeks now. I use it to charge my MacBook with 12W iPad charger. Charges slow but works well for leaving plugged-in overnight.
