32ft 2 Port USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Active Extension / Repeater Cable

Get three, three, three functions in one cable with the Monoprice USB 2.0 Active Extension/Repeater/Hub!

You can extend the length of your USB 2.0 cable an additional 32 feet with this cable. It comes with a USB A male connector on one end and a pair of USB A female connectors on the other.

When extending USB cables beyond about 15 feet, you can suffer from signal strength reduction. The further you go, the worse it becomes until you get poor (or no) valid connections. This cable includes a signal amplifier, which will boost the signal strength so you can extend further without signal loss. It draws on USB power to provide the boost or can use an optional AC adapter (PID 2220, not included) for the power it needs.

This cable is also serves as a 2-port USB hub. Each of the two USB A female connectors can connect to a discrete USB device and the cable will manage data signals in the same way as any other USB hub. The cable can be used as a passive hub or active, using the optional AC power adapter (PID 2220, not included) connected to the repeater unit, allowing the cable to drive power-hungry USB devices, such as portable hard drives or for phone charging.

The repeater unit has two LEDs, one to indicate when an external power source is connected and the other to indicate when a valid USB data link is established with one or both of the hub ports.

The perfect solution for streaming with multiple usb cameras
I used three of these cables connected to connect 6 C920 web cams to a Vantec UGT-PCE430-4C usb host controller. The cables were a perfect solution for my needs and worked flawlessly. I had planned on using 1 active cable attached to a hub but, this cut down on the number of cable runs making my setup cleaner and cheaper. I was able to add 3 cameras to one of the cable end points by attaching a usb hub. I should also mention that I used a passive 10ft cable in my chain. Excellent product and price!

PROS: Extends length of usb cable over passive cabling.
Split one port into two with built in hub.
Easy to use, reliable and affordable.

    CONS: None

    Nice
Hooked up a wired Logitech G400 mouse and a standard wired keyboard. Both seem to be very responsive. Mouse is averaging 1000Hz (peak 150Hz) in Direct Input Mouse Rate, so there doesn't appear to be any slowdown with this 32ft cable. Working well for my needs.

    Works as designed...
Worked with a non-powered KB and mouse exactally how I planned. MP saved my show budget $1000s.

    Unique cable
This was used to set up a keyboard and mouse over 25 feet from the PC. Works perfectly. No simplert solution found.

PROS: Supports two devices. Indicator lights.

    CONS: Indicator lights.

Works great. I was a little skeptical, but no troubles at all. I even bought the optional power supply, but my two USB-powered peripherals worked fine without it. Elgato EyeTV Hybrid and Griffin RadioShark.

    The right solution
I am using this in an unpowered configuration to connect my HP dc7800 with USB 2.0 ports running iSpy to a USB camera with auto-switching IR lens and IR lights. The computer has a second USB camera connected on a different port as well. All of the wiring is indoors (except the last few inches) and the camera is mounted on the exterior of my house. After a couple of months things are still performing very well. A great solution for my setup.,

PROS: Perfect length. Adequate power for USB camera without using optional power supply.

    CONS: No cons experienced.

Works like I expected it to - just fine. The cable arrived coiled up, but stretched out without a fight and stayed reasonably flat where I placed it.

As I mentioned in the "Cons", there is a junction block at the end of the cable where the two USB sockets join to the main cable. This is also where you connect external power if you need it. The power plug comes in at a right angle to the rest of the cords - it would be better if the external power jack was placed beside the place where the main cable goes into the junction block. Even if this made the junction block a little thicker, it would be better than the current side connection.

    PROS: Easy to use.

    Works like it's supposed to.

CONS: Placement of power connector could be better.

it works but the AC adapter is required
I use my TV for gaming and using a wireless KB/mouse just wasn't cutting it so I purchased this USB extension cable so I could use a wired KB and mouse. When I first hooked it up I couldn't get anything to work on it. I tried several different keyboards and mice but the computer just wouldn't detect them. I then connected the "optional" AC adapter and everything started working. The description implies the AC adapter is only needed for "power-hungry" devices such as external drives. I don't consider a keyboard and mouse to be power-hungry yet they still required the AC adapter to work.

CONS: LEDs are too bright. I had to cover them with electrical tape.

Excellent for Use w/ Telescope Mount and Camera & In a Daisy Chain
I purchased this long extender cable so that I could relocate my telescope farther from the house. I use a USB2 connection from a laptop to control a Celestron CPC and for the video stream from a camera used for astro-video real time viewing. This cable worked perfectly connected to a 32ft 2 Port USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Active Extension / Repeater Cable (Monoprice PID 8490). The two ports on the 8490 eliminate the need for a separate hub.

Next I swapped the 32' cable for a Monoprice 15m single port cable and Monoprice 4 port USB hub. This raised an information dialog box on my Win 7 Toshiba laptop raised and stating that there was a 4 hub limit on chains. Removing the 4 port hub solved the problem, but of course I could only connect one device and not both. Apparently the system sees the repeater modules as hubs.

There is a good deal of contradictory information about the 4-hub limit, but no clear solution. Neither device at the mount draws much power, so I do not know if connecting a 5VDC adapter would help. In any case Monoprice does not seem to stock the adapter they recommend for 15m cable.

That noted the cable works fine by itself or daisy chained with another repeater cable. Whether it can be chained with another 82ft cable, I do not know.

    Highly recommended.

PROS: Worked out of the box and still works many months later

CONS: Sometimes on start up I have to disconnect and reconnect the attached devices (a USB video dongle and a USB to serial adapter) for the laptop to recognize them.

    Works as advertised.
Wanted to find a way to extend my desktop to my tv in the living room and found this to be the easiest and most cost effective method to achieve my goal. Product works well and when paired with a HDMI cable as well.

PROS: Carries signal well, no lag when using wired peripherals. Using xbox controller, Logitech HD webcam c910.

CONS: Cable is standard gauge for usb so have to be careful to not to run it over with a chair or hit it in a door.
