    Due to its design, USB cable has a normal maximum length of about 5 meters (16.4 feet), but you can get longer distances by using an active USB extension cable from Monoprice!

    This is a bus-powered extension cable that can be used to increase the length of a device without any signal loss or potential performance problems. It contains active electronics, which boost the USB signal for maximum reliability and performance over extended distances. The cable operates as self-powered extender, for use with USB cameras‚ printers‚ webcams‚ keyboard/mouse, etc.

    It is a true plug-and-play device. No additional drivers are required. It supports Windows® 98/2000/XP/Vista®/7, Mac® OS X® v10.0 or higher, and Linux. It can also be used with many types of USB devices, including the Xbox Kinect®* and the Eye of the PS3 Move!

    * Important notes for Kinect users:

    1. You can use this cable to connect the USB version of the Kinect only. It is not compatible with the proprietary Kinect connector. If you have a Kinect connector, please use PID 8487.

    2. The Kinect requires more power than traditional USB ports are capable of providing. In order to prevent damage to equipment, Microsoft has designed the Kinect with a proprietary connector. If your Kinect did not come with a USB/Power adapter, you must purchase one from Microsoft before you can use this extension cable.


    Note that the packaging indicates that this cable uses 26/22 AWG wires, however it actually uses 28/24 AWG wires as noted in the Features below.

    What is the minimum conduit size the male end could fit in if we want to run this through a conduit in the floor?

    BEST ANSWER: Well the male end connection measures 19/32" wide by 5/16" thick by 1" long (1 5/16" including cable boot, 1 13/16" including plug and cable boot). So as long as the conduit can accommodate that then you will be good to go.

    Works perfectly for use with Xbox Kinect
    I have a projector in the basement with all my components hidden in the utility room behind me, so had no way of putting the 360 at the front of my room to hook up the Kinect, so I needed a LONG active usb extension. I'd purchased a 30ft usb extension before from Monoprice for my wired rockband periphs, and bought this 50ft extension for the Kinect and it works great. There is no apparent lag and I'd highly recommend it if someone has a similar setup.

    PROS: Works as expected
    No lag for Kinect

    CONS: There is a little "box" (presumably to keep the signal active?) about 3 times the thickness of the cable and maybe 2" long, about 10ft from the end of the cable, which caused a SLIGHT annoyance because I was attempting to hide the whole cable under my baseboards.

    Works
    I set up this cable along with the 10m cable both are connected to logi c270 webcams on a Linux Xubuntu system with Motion software and they work fine. But it did take some shuffling of the port to use. If both this cable and the 10m cable were on the same bus(USB ports right next to each other), then that was too much for the computer and they would not work. So on my computer that has 8 ports, the maximum number of these cables I could attach is probably three. Bottom line, don't plan on attaching one of these cables to every one of your open USB ports with webcams. If you are only doing a few, then you should be able to shuffle the ports used and get it to work.

    PROS: Works if on its own bus

    CONS: Does not work if two cables on same bus.

    PROS: Very long, signal repeater in line. I bought it to extend my webcam for Skype. Worked perfectly.

    PROS: Use to extend Kinect sensor for xbox works great , must have power adapter from xbox .

    CONS: Large piece in middle of cable so need large hole to snake .

    Works great for HTC Vive extension
    I'm using the 49ft version cable as an extension for the linkbox of my Vive. It was actually a bit difficult to unwind the cable (it didn't just unroll, there was a lot of untangling to do), but otherwise no issues that I can see, works great.

    PROS: Works as advertised

    CONS: Weirdly difficult to unwind

    Great Cable Extender
    Used with home control system. Works great, buying another for large format printer that uses too much space in office.

    PROS: Good Signal over long distance.
    LONG!

    CONS: Mid-line Booster requires large hole to run thru walls and floors

    Extends signal perfectly
    It was actually enough to also charge my phone (motorola droid x) though not 100% reliable (as expected). I plugged in an extra power to my usb hub (I had a powered hub but lost the power brick, so I got it from here (product id: 2220). With that, it happily charged my phone and powered my 100GB notebook external drive (tested reliable read/write over 30MB/s), and wireless mouse/keyboard.

    PROS: Easily powered a 4-port usb hub with mouse and a couple of thumb drives.

    CONS: no light indicators like the other 2-port model here.

    Works for the xbox kinect as planned
    This products does exactly what it claims. It is used to extend the xbox kinect 49' from the xbox. The cable is nice and thick which means it will take a while before I can roll it out and it not bunch back together, but I'm sure it eventually will.

    PROS: Inexpensive
    Works as designed

    CONS: Cable comes wound tight, will take a while to smooth out and not bunch up.

    very long USB cables work perfectly
    in some cases we are using 2 of these cables to accomplish 100' and the camera pictures are perfect

    Works as advertised
    I bought this to allow me to put my Xbox in across the room from my TV and still be able to play the kinect. Works just as adversized. However, if you have a newer Xbox 360S you will need the power adapter from microsoft to allow the kinect to plug into this cable. That really has nothign to do with this cable, just a note to Xbox owners who bouught the Xbox 360 with the kinect bundle. Overall this is about the cheapest way to accomidate having your xbox away from your TV.

    PROS: Work as advertised.

    CONS: None.
