If this is an optical cable, it would need power on the female A side for the receiving device. I don't see any power inlet on the female. How does this work? Will it only connect to a hub? You can't send power over an optical cable.

BEST ANSWER: While the main transmission is done over optical, there are supplementary copper lines that provide power to the female transceiver. It won't be enough power to use for USB BUS powered devices, so we would recommend connecting to a powered hub that could then distribute power to the connected devices.

Will this work with a typical USB Gaming Headset without needing a separate powered hub?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Hi, yes this should work as long as your gaming headset complies with USB standards for power draw (you can test this by connecting your headset directly to your computer to see if it works). When used with USB 3.0 ports and devices, this cable can deliver 5 VDC up to 900mA, and up to 500mA for USB 2.0.

Does this item include the USB power cable/adapter pictured? Is this power required?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Yes, it needs the power to run the fiber optic circuits at the far end and has some thin copper wiring that acts as a sheath of sorts for the fiber.

Power is required when using the cable for USB 2.0 backwards compatibility, and it is included.

I'm having issues getting 2.0 compatibility to work. I have the device plugged into a 2.0 port and the extra power cable plugged into the adjacent 2.0 port. I have a simple usb flash drive at the far end as a test. Windows does not detect anything. If I swap the device to a 3.0 port (no extra power cable), everything works. Any ideas? could I try an external USB power source (cell phone charger)? are the pinouts the same? I may not always have a 3.0 port in my application.

Does the USB power injected at the transmitting end allow the use of a powered device at the receiving end, or is the power just for the optical extension?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: The injected power is for the use of a USB powered Device. It is not needed to standard data/connectivity usage.

Solid Product
I am very satisfied with this product. It works well with multiple Supper Speed USB 3.0 cameras I have connected to it. A competitive device I purchased before that did not work consistently and would drop the connection. This product is consistent, works great, and is very well constructed. I've now purchased three more.
