Since the cable works as advertised, this isn't a Monoprice problem. The cable is fine. Anyone have an idea how I could get this to work?
PROS: -Appears well made.
-Functions as expected in normal circumstances
CONS: -Incompatible with Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and old Apple 24" Cinema Display.
PROS: It relieves the pressure that the short-cabled Apple mini-displayport adapter was exerting on my laptop.
Apple's solution: Buy a second thunderbolt monitor (yeah right - like I am dumping another $1k after spending almost $5k on my new equipment)
Another alternative solution: Instead of daisy chaining the cinema display directly from the TB monitor, put a third TB device in between, like a hard drive that supports chaining - then chain TB monitory - HD - cinema display and that apparently works! But that means at least $400 in purchasing a TB hard drive.
I decided to take this route - since my new MBP has 2 TB ports, why not just buy an TB/Displayport extension cable so that I can run the cinema display directy to the second TB port of the MBP? And so after ordering this cable from Monoprice, I have the perfect 3 display configuration - yes I have to plug in an extra cable every morning but its worth the $$$$ savings any day.
PROS: Reasonably priced, convenient product.
CONS: None really. The cable seems to be a little loose but it has never caused any issues so I guess that's just how it fits.
PROS: works fine - it's a cable -
PROS: Extension for the monitor increasing the options to where I could place my monitor
